LVM question
CentOS Community,
It is to my understanding that the /boot partition should never be
placed on LVM and should be a physical partition on the hard drives
(or on top of a RAID array). Is this an accurate statement?
Also please advise if the SWAP filesystem is safe to be placed under
LVM, or if this should be a hard partition / hard limit as well. I am
unsure if boot issues or any filesystem issues

Safely Remove Disk on LVM
Dear All,
I plan to replace an error disk that is part of an LV. from LVM how-to
it could be done with using pvmove to move all PE from old disk to new
disk. But the howto also said that pvmove is slow. Anyone has
experience using pvmove on 2TB disk?
Is it possible to make all PE on the old disk empty so I don't have to
do pvmove (assuming that I can make a free space >= 2TB). Thank you in

I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB,
1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb
disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so
that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use
pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I
have no SATA port left so that I can't

Syslinux freezes my MP3 player/flashdrive, normal dos boot does not.
I recently got a cheap PenDrive iVO which I'll be the first to admit
is anything but perfect, but, a pretty decent player considering it's
cost is that of the other players with half the memory. One of the
things I was looking forward to was having a great bootable flashdrive
with my favorite linux rescue image and a few other diagnostic/repair
things. Unfortunately, since I tried to put

8.2.2004 Quick recovery and fix for unbootable machines
This is a quick recovery and fix for the machines rendered unbootable
after the grub2/shim yum update.
It is written for CentOS 8.2.2004 but similar should work for any CentOS
8 or 7 as long as you get the correct shim file,
that is, the one from the latest installation media.
I am running on an x86_64 architecture (see uname -i). Please use the
correct shim file for your architecture

Fwd: 8.2.2004 Quick recovery and fix for unbootable machines with rescue disk
Hello all--
These instructions are somewhat OK but my messed up box is the only one
I've got basically to help with this problem.
Where can we find "correction" instructions using a "rescue" CD or flash
drive? I understand RedHat provided detailed instructions to supported
customers.
Thanks.

Trying to figure out why my Cruzer Micro 512"MB" won't boot.
Office Depot ran a deal with a Cruzer Micro 512MB (actually, around
488MiB) for about $20 after a rebate I may not see for months. I saw
the ad yesterday and stopped by pretty well first thing this afternoon
to snatch one up while they were still there since I've been having to
make do with two 256MB drives to hold all the data I neded since one
drive couldn't hold enough (though I must

script help - '3rd last field'
Hi
I need some logic to work out a value for me - this value is _always_
the 3rd last field in a string seperated by '.' but the string could be
5 or 6 fields long, e.g
foo.bar.VALUE.baz.lala
foor.bar.gigi.VALUE.baz.lala
I need to find VALUE - if this were python or something i could do it
but this has to be in shell -
Any clues?
thanks

But then my stupid sister dropped my laptop done the stairs. That was about 2 months ago, and I got a new laptop running OSX because my parents hate Windows (while I love it). I was looking through a flashdrive with my stuff from my old laptop on it

monthly rotation?
a. On 12 of March or
b. On 1st of March?
Thanks for any insight.

How to boot linux kernel from Syslinux 6 with efi
Hello,
I am testing Syslinux-6.01 booting with efi64 from usb flashdrive.
Using the config listed below, the kernel and initrd are loaded,

The flashdrive is partitioned with two partitions; the first is efi

looking for alternative to SME & Clark Connect
Hi all,
I'm looking for a (preferably free) alternative to SME / Clark Connect.
I basically need the following:
- firewall
- nat
- VPN
- bandwidth limiting / monitoring
- email (SMTP / POP3 / IMAP) & groupware
- file & printer sharing
- RAID support
- if possible fail-over / high availability support.
I need to support about 15 - 30 (some part time) students, so I would

Bootable ISO with extra data outside the ISO?
Sorry if this is a total noob question... I've searched the archives and
haven't turned up much. Not turning up much on the web in general, either.
I'm working on a project and I'd like to create a Linux bootable ISO disc
with an extra chunk of data **outside** the ISO space. This chunk of data
might be a 10MB tar/zip. The goal would be to boot into Linux in RAM off
the disc
