grep pattern x, but not pattern y on the same line
Hi folks
I have the command "find . | xargs grep 'mailx'", to search all files
with "mailx" in contents. I wish to add a second condition that NOT
contains string sven.aluoor at ubs.com on the same line.
Every file which contains "mailx", but not the string
sven.aluoor at ubs.com in the same line.

send HTML formatted mail (for M$ Outlook) with mailx
Hi folks
I have here a small ksh script which generates html output and I am
trying to send this html output as inline HTML mail for M$ Outlook
users (not attachment).
But it doesn't work, in mail you see the html source as plain text

OT: programming language for morons (newbie friendly language in Open Source world)
Hi folks
I have more than 12 years experience with UNIX system administration,
but I am too stupid for programming. My only programming experience is
shell scripting. I tried to learn Java, but don't understand it
because it is too complicated for my limited brainpower.
What programming language should I learn?
A friend said that C-Sharp (Mono) is very simple. Is this true?

best practises for avoiding to write passwords in shell scripts (example sqlplus from Oracle)
Hi folks
I have here a CentOS box where i need to setup cronjob (with session
to remote Oracle instance). On the remote DB i have no access, expect
limited user.
How to avoid putting passwords in shell scripts?
The solution doesn't need to be perfect, only better than plain text
passwords in scripts.
Mostly remote host only support password authentication (no
certificates and so on).

OpenOffice 3.3.0 crashing on CentOS 5.5
The last few releases of OpenOffice have gotten very
unstable on my desktop which is a CentOS 5.5 i386 system.
After multiple crashes when doing embedded simple drawings
in OpenOffice writer (circles and lines with connections), I
started using the versions from Sun then Oracle. I am
now using version 3.3: openooffice.org3-3.3.0-9567. I've
lived with this but with version 3.x it has gotten

Open Source (or Closed Source) multi-user password manager
Hello
We use an Open Source Windows software[0] with about 1200 passwords.
The encrypted file is stored on a CIFS-share. When concurrent write
occurs, the users overwrite other users passwords.
Now we are searching for a mutli-user password manager. Open Source
would be good, but Closed Source is also accepted. support for Windows
is a requirement and it shouldn't be a web application.

sudo wildcards problem: for every argument a *-wildcard? Better solution?

I allow the user tommy to run this command as root
sudoCommand: /app/appname/connectors/*/*/current/bin/*
With "sudo -l" he sees the sudoers, but is unable to execute.
$ sudo /app/appname/connectors/zur/namename/current/bin/othername

[rsync -avz] total size/disk usage difference between source and destination

We migrated storage from local disk to SAN with:
# rsync -avz /mnt/lvol00045/* /lvol00045
Why there is a difference in size? How to explain this? Do we have
inconsistency? What we did wrong?

I have been very satisfied with R-Excel interface (DCOM). Few months ago
I have changed my OS to Linux-Mandrake, and now I am using
OpenOffice.org Calc as spreadsheet. I would like to know does exist some
R-OpenOffice.org interface or how is possible to use R-functions in
OpenOffice.org Calc?

Acoustic boot-menu?
Hello,
I have a couple of headless workstations where it should be possible to boot
different OS-kernels.
Currently I use "MENU IMMEDIATE" and hotkeys which work fine.
However I do not really know when the boot sequence has reached the menu for
this purpose it would be nice to to ring a bell.
Any hint how to do this?

Serious bug in OpenOffice.org Calc shipped with CentOS

Until now I've been a happy user of CentOS. Everything just works(tm),
and I don't care if application versions are slightly outdated.
Next week I have to give a series of classes for a company that recently
made the switch to Linux. On schedule is a one-week course for Writer

OpenOffice Calc ODBC equivalent
Hi R users:
I am using RODBC to create some new ".xls" files each with
several sheets (about 100) with sqlSave() from a data.frame
inside R without any problem, but on windows XP platform.
I would like to know if it is posible to make a similar
solution on linux with openoffice?
RODBC work only (for the moment) with ".xls" on windows,
via the ODBC driver.

we need to import the Root-Cert in PEM format?

(OT) OpenOffice.org calc chart strangeness.
I am attempting to create a simple line chart graphing three columns from a
soffice-calc spreadsheet. I expect it to take the leftmost column as the
X-Axis, plotting the others on the Y-Axis, but it always creates an X-Axis
of the row number in the columns, and the first column amongst the data.
I have tried this on OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, NeoOffice(R) 3.0.2 Patch 2,
iWork Pages, and Excel 12.2.4

openoffice & command line printing
Everyone,
I am trying to print some *.doc files from the command line with
openoffice on centos 5.5 with using cups as the print server.
I can open the file from the command line with open office and then
print it manually from the gui, but when I open the file and print from
command line I am not getting anything.
The commands that I have used are the following :

Problem getting Java Runtime Environment installed into OpenOffice
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my new install of OpenOffice 2.31 to find my newly installed Java Runtime Environment version jre1.6.0_04 (downloaded from Sun). I tried installing it via Tools>Options>Java (am using OpenOffice Calc to try to set it up). The options dialog box is finding the Free Software Foundation version 1.4.2, but it won't find the new JRE file.
