Web site not responding with Firefox 52.6.0 (64-bit)
I don't know if this is a CentOS7/Firefox problem or one with the distant web site slashdot.org. I can connect to it just fine with the latest Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop PC, but not with Firefox 52.6.0 on this CentOS 7.4 laptop. This has been an on-going problem for several weeks. Google search results are sketchy. slashdot.org may have been a DDOS target today, but as I write this

Simplest (static?) build & config for loopback access?
I am installing Dovecot for the sole purpose of maintaining a local mail store that I could 1) manage with any client; 2) keep duplicated on several machines, using Unison; 3) hopefully, index using Spotlight (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.mail.mh-e.user/1308 ...). In particular, I have no intention to allow connections from anywhere but localhost. I've followed the instructions at

Disabling IPv6 with NetworkManager
Hello, Simple question, I'd like to know whether it's possible to disable IPv6 with NetworkManager only (over command line)? I am aware of: * echo "net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1" > /etc/sysctl.d/disableipv6.conf * sysctl -p But doing it with NM would be way easier to remember. Thanks! -- Sander Kuusemets University of Tartu, High Performance Computing, IT

premature question on 5.6
What will be the correct way to migrate ext3 to ext4 going from 5.5 to 5.6? Will something after the update ask if you want to migrate the file systems? Looking forward to some file system speed ups with large files. Thanks Jerry

new ssd to play with
I grabbed a new SSD M4-CT064M4SSD2 from Crucial. I am disappointed. I stuck the unit in an Atom machine (zotac) with CentOS 6 on the disk. It really doesn't "feel" faster than the previous 5400 RPM drive that was in it. The SSD is giving me (in the zotac running centos 6): hdparm -t /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing buffered disk reads: 298 MB in 3.00 seconds = 99.30 MB/sec The

installing 5.3 with 512M ram really slow
I was installing centos 5.3 x86_64 on a sempron 2.7G machine with 512M ram. The install started off fine then REALLY SLOWED down about 70% into install. I did have a swap space. after that it just crawled. I tried restart the install a couple times at 512M. Same thing around 70% the slow down. I then put in 1G of RAM and everything zipped on past and finished fine. Does 5.3 have minimum

Linux malware attack
SlashDot had an article today on a Linux server malware attack, <http://it.slashdot.org/story/14/03/18/2218237/malware-attack-infected-25000-linuxunix-servers>. I wonder if there is a simple test to see if a CentOS machine has been infected in this way? The article mentions Yara and Snort rules to test for this, but I wonder if there is something simpler? Alternatively, are there Yara or
