can't create large LVM, even though pvscan shows enough space left
I'm trying to create a 500GB lv volume on a 500GB physical volume, but can't:
[root at francois-pc ~]# pvscan

PV /dev/sdc VG thecus lvm2 [1010.00 GB /
910.00 GB free]
PV /dev/mapper/ddf1_RAIDp2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [931.25 GB / 0 free]

LVM Checksum error when using persistent grants (#linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8)
Hey Roger,
I am seeing this weird behavior when using #linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8 tree.
Basically I can do ''pvscan'' on xvd* disk and quite often I get checksum errors:
# pvscan /dev/xvdf
PV /dev/xvdf2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [18.88 GiB / 0 free]
PV /dev/dm-14 VG vg_x86_64-pvhvm lvm2 [4.00 GiB / 68.00 MiB free]
PV /dev/dm-12 VG vg_i386-pvhvm lvm2

installation and configuration documentation for XCP
i''ve installed XCP 1.5-beta. i''m a little confused as to what has
happened. everything so far seems to work. however, i need more
information on what was done to my hard disk during the installation
and how was the file system set up.
in particular, i was investigating how to create a new logical volume
to place my ISO file to use as my ISO storage (SR). i notice (see

4kB sector size HDDs
Hello again.
Do any of you have one of the 'new' HDDs with 4kB Sectors currently in use?
I would upgrade to the 4kB disks but I don't know if this might be
problematic as I intend to use ZFS w/ RAIDz or at least a classic RAID6.
How might this affect performance under 5.5 and how do I go about setting up
the alignment of the partitions I use?
Kind regards

I wonder if someone can point me in right directions. I have two dell
servers I setup iscsi so I have four 2 tb hard drives and i had used lvm
to create one big partiton and share it using iscsi. How I go about
assigning sections of iscsi for virtual hard drives . should go about
assigning Should I export the whole 8TB as one iscsi and then use lvm to
create smaller virtual disk. Or should I

LVM problem
Hi,
I have CentOS 5.0 which use an old hard disk. And recently I found
there are some bad sector on it ... I try to backup my data to other
CentOS 5.0 box ....
What I did is. I remove the old HD (with bad sector) and install it as
a slave IDE on a working CentOS 5.0 ... I try to mount the old HD as
/mnt/oldDisk but since it's a LVM, the "mount -t ext3" doesn't work.
I'm

mounting lvm2
CentOS 7 for everything
I am probably never using lvm again. I have never not once actually
benefited from its capabilities but this is probably the third or fourth
time it has gotten in my way.
Issue is that I use the tools so rarely that I can't recall what needs
to be done to properly mount the drives on another system and finding
that info on the web is becoming more difficult as the

[PATCH v2] New tool: virt-format
This is the same as the previous patch, but the partition type is now
chosen automatically from mbr or gpt, unless the user expresses a
preference.

dm-multipath use
Are folks in the Centos community succesfully using device-mapper-multipath?
I am looking to deploy it for error handling on our iSCSI setup but there
seems to be little traffic about this package on the Centos forums, as far
as I can tell, and there seems to be a number of small issues based on my
reading the dm-multipath developer lists and related resources.

LVM Input/output error
Hi,
I recently installed centos for the first time and I like it!
Also, I just started working with lvm. The following warnings
are genertated whenever I run one of lvm commands on the external
usb disk (MyBook by Western Digital).
* What could be the source for those messages?
* Should I worry about them (writing into the created LV's
seems to work)?
* If yes, how to fix them?

Upgrading system from non-RAID to RAID1
I plan to upgrade an existing C7 computer which currently has one 256 GB SSD to use mdadmin software RAID1 after adding two 4 TB M2. SSDs, the rest of the system remaining the same. The system also has one additional internal and one external harddisk but these should not be touched. The system will continue to run C7.
If I remember correctly, the existing SSD does not use a M2. slot so they

I have a Drobo, connected to a CentOS 6.4 box. The box sees it as /dev/sdg.
I want to format it ext3 (as they dont support ext4) but when I try I get:

doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted.

LVM over Xen + Network
Hi,
We are planning to have LVM being used over a network of 3 h/w machines(500
GB Disk each)
Each hardware machine will have 2-3 domUs.
Can we store these domUs as a Logical Volumes stored across Network of these
3 machines?
Can one DomU exceed the 500 GB (physical drive size) and store say 1 TB of
data across the networked Physical Volumes?
Has anyone done this before?
Thanks and regards,

is it possible to resive a PV in LVM and add more LV's ?
Hi all
I have a remote server (i.e SSH access only) which was incorrectly
partitioned and I urgently need to get it up and running. It's got a 500GB
HDD, but the PV is only 10GB big, so I can't add more LV's to to. P.S. This
is on LVM, btw.

Questions about software RAID, LVM.
I am planning to increase the disk space on my desktop system. It is
running CentOS 5.9 w/XEN. I have two 160Gig 2.5" laptop (2.5") SATA drives

255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
