CentOS Digest, Vol 74, Issue 31
thanks for the reply, Phil It would, were udev not inserting USB and/or eSATA drives at /dev/sdb1 and/or /dev/sdc1 and exposing the array to the udev rule intended to handle only removable devices (at sdc or sdd). The array then mounts unpredictably in /media/xxx-sdc1 or sdd1 - not what is wanted - depend on how many removable devices are plugged at the time of rebooting. Of course, a single

Multipathing with Sun 7310
Dear list, we have a relatively new Sun Storage 7310, where we connect CentOS 5.5 Servers (IBM LS21/LS41 Blades) via Brocade Switches, 4GBit FC. The Blades boot from SAN via qla2xxx, and have no harddisks at all. We want them to use multipathing from the very beginning, so /boot and / are already seen by multipathd. Problem is, that the Sun 7310 has two storage heads which run in

how do export a block device via eSATA?
Does any one know how to, if at all possible currently, to export a block device via eSATA? i.e. how do I do something like iSCSI, but over eSATA? I have a cheat ($15 probably?) media player at home (Egreat EG-M31B Network Media Tank - awesome little machine) that runs some flavor of Debian and can be connected to any PC via eSATA as an external HDD's. i.e. it exports the built-in HDD as a

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All, I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice 1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS. or 2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

Any experience with eSATA and port multiplier...?
Hey, just bought an eSATA/USB dual drive docking station and my CentOS 5 can only see one drive at a time... Any one knows if there are specific parameters to set somewhere? Or do I need a more recent kernel (like upgrading to CentOS 6?) The docking is a Sharkoon Quickport Duo v2 + 2 drives + 1 eSATA cable... http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/sata-quickport-duo-v2 The eSATA controller is an

USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices in Centos 6.5?? I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028 it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine, I

HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie. I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically mount it. This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to hotplug it; that is, plug the controller into the laptop, and then

Centos backup tools
Hi all! I'm building a raid box to use for backups, connectivity will be either USB3 or esata. Looking for suggestions on backup software I can use. I know there's rsync, which may be a good solution. I also find backupPC at epel, backintime also at epel, kbackup. DejaDup looks interesting, but none of the repos I'm set up to use shows it being available. some small details: I

Tracking down hangs
We're using a storage solution involving two SunFire X4500 servers using DRBD to replicate a 15TB partition across the network with ocfs2 on top. We're sharing the partition from one server over NFS and the other is mounted read-only at present. The DBRD backing store is software RAID 60 on 40 disks. We've been seeing periodic issues whereby our NFS clients (Debian Lenny) are very

Assign external esata drive to KVM
Hello Everyone, I have a CentOS 6.3 host running a few KVMs. One of them is a CentOS 6.3 KVM that I want to use for making backups with BackupPC. What I'm having a problem with is assigning the KVM an external drive. I used to run BackupPC on an Ubuntu box. The backups went to an external eSATA 1.5TB, ext4 format, single partition drive (regular 3.5" in an enclosure). I want to now

ZFS - first steps
Hi folks, Just recently set-up my first OSOL box, have some Linux background but am TOTALLY new to OSOL, so please bear with me. I''m looking to expand usage of PM capable hardware (port multilier). This will allow to add extensive hd''s. At the moment I''m using a Sil3132 based PCIe card, which is recognized fine. The card is configured to use the esata port on the

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all, Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID controllers). One

External eSata ZFS raid possible?
Is this possible? I want an external case with 4 HD in, each having an individual eSata cable. I plug in this case only when needed (each HD plugs into my PC separately), and do something like ">import ZFS pool" and use my ZFS raid. When done, I unplug it with ">export ZFS pool" or something similar command. This way I save energy, less noise, etc. I want it only as a

How to map ata#.# numbers to /dev/sd numbers?
On my C5 machine (a Dell XPS420) I have a 500Gb disk on the internal SATA controller. I also have a SiI3132 dual-port multi-device eSATA card. This is connected to an external SATA array of disks. Troubleshooting ZFS performance with SIL3124 cards
Hi! I have a problem with ZFS and most likely the SATA PCI-X controllers. I run opensolaris 2008.11 snv_98 and my hardware is Sun Netra x4200 M2 with 3 SIL3124 PCI-X with 4 eSATA ports each connected to 3 1U diskchassis which each hold 4 SATA disks manufactured by Seagate model ES.2 (500 and 750) for a total of 12 disks. Every disk has its own eSATA cable connected to the ports on the PCI-X

Question on server speed
On 8/5/19 3:00 PM, Jerry Geis wrote: > The keyboard is USB attached and the external SSD disk is USB attached. WHY? Why would you do that? What's the point of SSD if you reduce the speed to USB?
