Hotplug on CentOS 5
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As some of you might have noticed, CentOS 5 doesn't ship with hotplug (linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net). Things get handled directly by HAL, as far as I can tell. This is ok as long as you are using gnome/kde. However, on a TUI box, or when you are running another WM (I use IceWM here), you can't count o HAL. Actually, HAL (as shipped on CentOS

What replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5?
What subsystem replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5? The older hotplug package is missing from CentOS 5 and /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug yields an empty string. Since hotpluging for standard devices still seems to work, I presume that something replaces the hotplug helper found on CentOS 4. Can someone point me in the right place? All of my Googleing points me back to the (obsolete?) /sbin/hotplug

Not surprisingly, they also share the same productid (1100). It also seems to come

centos 5.1 kickstart CD and intel 82576 driver
Hi all, I've got a Centos 5.1 kickstart that I must continue to use. How can I update the kick start image so that it recognizes Intel gigabit 82576 nic? BTW, I compiled the driver I need and have this igb.ko file. How do I incorporate that into my initrd.img file that I see on the kickstart CD that is probably my kickstart boot OS. Thank you very much in advance. aurf -

Automounting (hotplug) with HAL on CentOS 5
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I would like to get add a new Wiki entry regarding Automounting with HAL for CentOS 5, since the behaviour is very different than CentOS 4. Main points: - - Making automounting hotpluggable devices work with other WMs - - Overriding the default mount point - - Overriding the default mount options (noexec etc) Small nightmare here to find out how

dhcp fail over
Hi all, Few questions. Does DHCP failover work with statically assigned nodes? Seems like the failover statements only work in shared networks with non bootp clients? I'm assuming Centos 6 will have DHCP v4.2? Currently 5.5 ships with v3.0.5b. And will DHCP v4.X have easier failover implementation? Thanks in advance, - aurf

trouble shooting slow ssh logins
Hi all, I noticed that my ssh logins to a particular server were taking up to 5 seconds to finally login. My tcpdump -vv weren't producing much output (not good) and my pings to and from that host were normal and almost identical to other hosts on my subnet that had no ssh login delay issues. Log files also showed nothing alarming. My hosts file was missing this at the very end of

rsync via crontab spawns over 20 processes
Hi all, I've been running rsync via cron for a while now and all is well. However on one particular new 5.5 box, whenever its runs via crontab, the machine ends up with over 20 rsync processes and a load of ~14 and eventually the machine dies. But when running manually, I see it spawn 3 processes with a load of 1.5. My rsync command is simply; rsync --delete -avvH --progress source

centos 5.5 install + intel raid
Hi all, Installing 5.5 on a fresh system having an Intel RAID. My 2 drives are configured as a mirror within the Intel BIOS. When starting my install, Anaconda throws an exception. After a brief goog, I see one possible fix is - at the install prompt, type; linux text nodmraid This is fine and all but Centos sees 2 disks at this point rather then 1 which is what I thought the Intel RAID

qemu-img resize
Hi, I've been using qemu-img resize for a few days now, seems fine. But if I du the VMs image file, it still shows the size before resizing. Inside that VM, the new size shows correctly. Is qemu-img resize the right tool for this? Once I qemu-img resize, I then use various fdisk/ LVM tools, etc... to resize within the VM just incase you all were wondering. - aurf

802.3ad + Centos 6 + KVM (bridging)
Hi all, Don't mean to double post as I sent this to the general Centos list. But, does any one have 802.3ad (mode 4) working on there Centos6 KVM setup? This would be a bridge+bond setup of course. If not possible, would I still bond the interfaces on the switch and then bond them in the guest rather then from within the hypervisor? - aurf

ext4 or XFS
Hi all, I've a 30TB hardware based RAID array. Wondering what you all thought of using ext4 over XFS. I've been a big XFS fan for years as I'm an Irix transplant but would like your opinions. This 30TB drive will be an NFS exported asset for my users housing home dirs and other frequently accessed files. - aurf
