question on CPU
I have centos 5.4 on an HP laptop, as below the /proc/cpuinfo shows Dual
core,
however, there is only 1 processor listed in /proc/cpuinfo.
Is the OS only using a single core?

compaq r4000 /proc/cpuinfo reports 997 and should be 2400
Hi
I have a compaq R4000 with the 2.4GIG AMD 64 bit. 4000+ rated.
proc cpuinfo reports
cpu Mhz as 997.481
Do I have to run the 64 bit version to have things run correctly?
I just have the normal 4.2 loaded at this time.
The laptop seems slow for 4000+ as reflected by the cpu Mhz also.
Any thoughts on running the 32 bit version of 4.2 vs the 64 bit version
of 4.2?

Laptop for CentOS
Hello,
Has anyone used the Dell M3800 (ubuntu) laptop to run CentOS 6.x? If so how did it work out?
Also does anyone have a fairly new laptop they are running CentOS 6.x on, that they are happy
about? I am in the market for a new laptop and it must run CentOS 6.x.
Thanks,

Centos-compatible motherboards
Hi all!
I'm toying with the idea of spending some Christmas money on a new MB and
CPU to upgrade my desktop.
Although I've always been partial to AMD chips, I'm tempted this time to
find something Intel-ish, I5, quad core, or so.
In looking at mommyboards at New Egg and Amazon, I find so many I am
unable to make reasonable determinations regarding suitability, so am

sempron 2500+ running at 1044 cpu speed.
I have a desktop unit with a sempron 2500+ to play with.
doing "more /proc/cpuinfo" indicates cpu Mhz as1044 not the 2500
I am familiar with cpuspeed. doing ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulting in
nothing.
I did service cpuspeed start. No errors reported.
ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulted in nothing.
I was going to do "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" to attempt to get 2500+
cpu speed.

having trouble start Black Ops on Ubuntu 10.10
Hey all, I am fairly new to Ubuntu and Wine, so please excuse the noob questions.
I've been having trouble getting Black Ops to run on Wine. I can start it up, get to the main menu (for both multiplayer and singleplayer), and even view the loading screen for a map, but once it is about to start up, I get a message that says that DirectX has had an unrecoverable error, see the README for

D series are 10 years or more old. ancient in laptop terms. I had a
D600 for a long time (new in 2003).
The E6x00, '10, '20, and '30 are also fairly old (2008, 2010, 2011, and
2012, respectively).
The current models branded like Latitude 15 5000, 14 7000, etc, are in

Help with parsing a data file
Hi All,
I need to parse data from a file, example shown below. The first two lines
can be skipped, the third line contains the column names. The next 13 lines
can be skipped. The next line "1991" is a year value, with the following 13
values data for that year. The file then repeats this format with (year, 13
lines of data for that year). I would ideally like to end up with an

Finding real cpuinfo and meminfo
I have to collect cpuinfo and meminfo from hundreds of machines in preparation of updating our inventory and Xen version. Since we pin cpu and ram for dom0, this mangles the info. Is there way to get the real information? I know that xm top will give me the true RAM, but I need a non-interactive method.
Specifically, I need the following real, unobfuscated/hidden info:

CentOS 5.6 x64 installs successfully on HP 6200pro SFF box with
Intel Q65X Express chipset (including HD graphics), Core i5 and
added NVS300 graphics card. Actually, it works great. HP lists
"RedHat Enterprise x64" as a supported OS. The 6200pro is a

that too is a "skylake", latest gen intel CPU, you might have some
issues with CentOS and the USB C/Thunderport, and/or USB 3 on those.
If it works on Ubuntu, you likely can get it working with C7 albeit
maybe using a newer kernel.

rowMean, specify subset of columns within Dataframe?
I would like to calculate the mean of tree leader increment growth over 5
years (I1 through I5) where each tree is a row and each row has 5 columns.
So far I have achieved this using rowMeans when all columns are numeric type
and used in the calculation:
Data1 <- data.frame(cbind(I1 = 3, I2 = c(0,3:1, 2:5,NA), I3
=c(1:4,NA,5:2),I4=2,I5=3))
Data1
Data1$mean_5 <- rowMeans(Data1, na.rm =T)

preparing to migrating to new system
hi all,
I will be migrating my mail server from centos 4.8 to 6 when its released.
Basically its just a number of users with their passwords. Their mail is
downloaded to their clients
and not stored on the server.
What is the most sensible or correct way to migrate ALL the users to the
new system?
Way in the past is was just perhaps copy the /etc/passwd file but I know
thats not the case

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000
laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it
into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized.
I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either...
I thought USB was well established....
I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support
might get my networking going...
I am stuck???

Some quick googles only turned up articles about RHEL on Dell Laptops
in 2012 - nothing with RHEL seems to be current only with Ubuntu 14.04 .

Speed issue in only one direction
Hi all,
I'm back again with my speed issues. The past issues where dependant of
network I used.
Now I run my tests in a lab, with 2 configurations linked by a Gigabit
switch :
node1: Intel Core i5-2400 with Debian 7.2
node2: Intel Core i5-3570 with Debian 7.2
Both have AES and PCLMULQDQ announced in /proc/cpuinfo.
I use Tinc 1.1 from Git.
When I run an iperf test from node2 (client) to

Hi,
I'm running libvert on a Debian 7 system. I have upgraded libvert and qemu
from source (v1.06 and 1.5.0 respectively) and the problem persists. The
guest OS is also a Debian 7 system running a non-SMP kernel. The error
message from virt-manager is
