logrotate, syslog, and chsh
I'm noticing that logrotate's default configuration for rotating /var/ log/secure and /var/log/messages partially fails if root's shell is set to /bin/tcsh (via chsh). (Running on CentOS 4.4; logrotate-3.7.1-5.RHEL4). What seems to be happening is that the logrotate.d/syslog postrotate command runs: /bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid 2> /dev/null` 2> /dev/null

Dhcp 3.0.5 on 5.x
I am looking to use the update-conflict-detection false; directive in the dhcpd.conf. It is supported in EL6 or and dhcp >=3.1.0a1. Since I am not going to get permission to switch to EL6 or dhcp 3.1 what are my options? Background: I have a DNS/DHCPD system which its conf files are generated automagically. Depending on which network a device is on the ip address will change. It is always

So you mean if we don't want to pay RHEL licensing fees, we can > use Centos? Since we are paying about $100 per RHEL license. But you will still need a (self?) support plan to be STIG compliant. >

That's problem. AHCI is the standard for SATA, running modern SATA drives, especially SSD require the AHCI command structure. Running modern SATA drives in IDE (ATA) mode is not readily supported. -Jason -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - - - Jason Pyeron PD Inc.

pfSense DHCP integration with Samba AD DDNS
Hi Rowland, I don't want to to run an AD DC on firewall device, barely DHCP and maybe DNS. What you have pointed me to is similar to what I have in place: https://blog.michael.kuron-germany.de/2011/02/isc-dhcpd-dynamic-dns-updates-against-secure-microsoft-dns/ and which is working fine. NOW I want to switch DHCP from isc-dhcp-server 4.2.2 on Debian to DHCP on pfSense firewall (based on

Apache in chroot reporting every client is 16.0.0.0
Not sure where to start on this. I went to examine a log file today and noticed a password protected internal file was being accessed from 16.0.0.0. Upon further review every log entry has the same IP. Accessing apache from localhost also reports 16.0.0.0. Google is not being my friend right now, any advice? java-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64 keeps clobbering logging.properties
It appears that the rpm does not list the logging.properties as a config file, as such every time yum updates the file get overwritten. /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/jre/lib/logging.properties For now I have a cron job to replace it. Any suggestions? -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -

Kernel panic after install in cento6 before mounting root file system rw
I am hopelessly trying to debug a new install of 6.2 x86_64. I used the minimal install with default options. Unfortunately the screen garbles during the kernel panic. Scroll/Num lock lights are blinking. 1. Where can I find debugging steps? (tried rescue and mount to read /var/log, but no values written since it is still in RO mode) 2. Where are the keyboard blink codes documented? -Jason --
