Smart cards, mostly solved
So, it *seems* to be working, pretty much. I needed to install opensc, openct pcsc-lite, pcsc-lite-openct, and ctapi-common will be installed as a dependency. I *removed* coolkey and esc, which depended on it. 100% of the time, they misidentifed the new/current US federal ID PIV-II cards as coolkey cards, and popped up this "phone home" window, then a "manage smartcards"

Firefox fails to authenticate .mil sites with New DoD CAC
Can anyone help with getting the new DoD CACs (Smart Card) to work in CentOS 6.6? I don't use it for console logins, only for email and .mil web sites. I recently had to get a new DoD CAC (Smart Card) when one of the buildings I work in upgraded their security system. My old CAC was working fine prior to this for signing and encrypting email and for authenticating to various DoD (.mil) sites

a-gnome-oyences
Most of my users are on kde, as am I (I really don't like gnome). I've got one on gnome, though, CentOS 6.4, and I have a problem: I have to start an agent running ->on login<-, so that the same one is in the environment of every term window he opens. In kde, no problem, I modify /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common so that code in there calls our (newer) ssh-agent instead of the stock one.

VNCServer Startup Config
hi all, I've inherited a server with CentOS 6.4 the VNC Server starts up with the OS and its screen resolution is set to 800x600. I found that I can set the resolution by specifying the -geometry switch, but I can't find where the call to start the vncserver is set in order to change it. I know that it's not in /etc/xinetd.d (the only file there is rsync) here are the contents of

CentOS 6.7->6.8, ssh-add issue
Folks, I am perplexed. I updated my workstation at work Wed before I left, from 6.7 to 6.8. Then, yesterday, I went to use ssh-add -s libcoolkeypk11.so, which I've done many times before to add the certs from my PIV card... and 100% of the time if fails, letting me SSH_AGENT_FAILURE, cannot add card. Now, using a script called sccr, which uses my public and private key to generate a

xterm clones on VNC problem
I've been scratching my head over this one after setting up VNC on another existing server. Followed the instructions here http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server as usual. It worked initially. However since this server is going to be installed in a rather inconvenient place and having done pretty stupid things before, I decided for the first time to try the portion that says # Add the

Firefox fails to authenticate .mil sites with New DoD CAC
I thought DoD used RHEL and not Centos, or did Centos did approved DADEMS recently? compiz without a desktop window
Running compiz without a desktop window has some unexpected behavior. It is not possible to grab the cube with the mouse. The pointer needs to be over a window for it to work. In display.c the XSelectInput call in addDisplay is missing ButtonPressMask and ButtonReleaseMask, so it makes sense why this doesn't work. Is there a reason why they have been left out? Lower window with Button2 on

Thanks on 6.5
Hey, Johnny et al, Thanks for the hard work, and quick followup to upstream. What's especially nice for us, and for other folks using CentOS at US federal gov't agencies, is that finally, the stock ssh-agent works seamlessly with pkcs11 and PIV/CAC cards, which is being required across the board. We'd been building our own openssh pieces... (and it was my manager that pushed that

(?) Dangling ssh-agent processes with GNOME
I recently noticed a LOT of ssh-agent processes running on my system (CentOS 4.2). It seems that the ssh-agent gets started before the session manager (in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common) which is great. The only problem is that the agent process does not die when the session shuts down. I run ssh-add in my session startup to get my key loaded into ssh-agent, so that might be part of the issue.

Help with PDC hardware
Hey everyone. Our network has a PII 350Mhz Windows NT server. It serves as our PDC. It also serves our email, print and file sharing needs. We have plans of totally phasing out this computer. There are two candidates for the replacement of our PDC. One is a PIV 1.7Ghz with 768MB of memory (hostname: Karou). This computer is currently our intranet web server. The other computer is a PIV 2.8Ghz

VNC vs GNOME desktop
I'm trying to use VNC to connect my home Centos box (up to date centos 5) to my Centos 4 (also up to date) at work. I have no problem connecting. The problem occurs after logging in, for every applet in the bottom Gnome panel I get an error box from which I can choose to remove the applet from the panel, or just go on. I choose to not delete but to just go on. After I get a half dozen or so of

vnc on C7
Thanks Frank. The below in fact worked and restarting the service. Jerry To get mate to show up use the follow text in your ~.vnc/xstartup file: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: # unset SESSION_MANAGER unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS # exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r HOME/.Xresources ]
