vnc on C7
Hi Jerry,
I done a lot of search in google. Than I find your post, but without success
for my problem.
I have add your xstartup file. But I can't get it working with this
startupfile.
One problem is, that I can't find the x-terminal-emulator on my machine.
Which package must I install for x-terminal-emulator in CentOS7 ?
Maybe you can have a look at my logfile and my configuration for

xterm clones on VNC problem
I've been scratching my head over this one after setting up VNC on
another existing server. Followed the instructions here
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server as usual. It worked
initially. However since this server is going to be installed in a
rather inconvenient place and having done pretty stupid things before,
I decided for the first time to try the portion that says

Ok so I've installed tiger vnc on a centos 6.5 machine.
And I've edited /etc/sysconfig/vncservers

And added the contents of the xstartup file for the user:
[root at potwsld00001 ~]# cat /home/mysql/.vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh
[ -r /etc/sysconfig/i18n ] && . /etc/sysconfig/i18n

Lost root access
So on a virtual server the root password was no longer working (as in
I couldn't ssh in anymore). Only I and one other know it and neither
of us have changed it. No other account had the correct privileges to
correct this so I'm wondering, if I had mounted that vdi as a
secondary device on another VM, browsed the file system and delete
/etc/shadow would this have wiped all users passwords

VNC on centOS
Hi,
I have recently installed centOS 7 and trying to start vnc server on it.
Somehow, I am unable to make vncserver working. I have modified iptable
rules and xstartup file but it did not help.
Has anyone else faced this problem earlier? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Hersh

User Details
I have some questions on how I can perform the following actions from
the terminal in CentOS 5.5 final. My Google searches aren't helping
and I keep seeing references to the command 'useradd' but this isn't
present on my box;
-How to add a new user?
$ useradd
-bash: useradd: command not found
(This is the same for my normal user and when logged in as root)
-How to set/change an

ext4?
Listee's...
I have a 5.5 box and I have formatted a partition as ext4 however I
can't mount it, the mount command is telling me its an unknown file
system type. fsck tells me the partition is a clean ext4 partition but
I can't mount it.
Some reasearch has lead me to believe the problem is that ext4 isn't
enabled in the kernel by default in 5.5 (this was originally a 5.2 box

Basic Bash Script Question
I'm stuck trying to work this one out and my Google skills are
apparently lacking today.
This is a test bash script;
#!/bin/bash
do something | tee a.log
if [ $? -ne 0]; then
echo broken
fi
The problem with this script is $? contains the exit value of the tee
command, but I want to check the exit value of whatever command I put
in place of 'do something'.
How can I achieve this

VNC Server Centos 7 specify window manager
I have a simple question, how do I specify a gnome session with VNc
Server. I correctly setup up the connections but when I log in all I get
is a blue screen with a checkbox in the upper left corner saying "Accept
clipboard from viewers".
My guess is that I am loading generuc X11 by default. How do I specify in
the etc/systemd/system/vncserver@:4.service file that I want it to load

vnc on C7
Thanks Frank.
The below in fact worked and restarting the service.

To get mate to show up use the follow text in your
~.vnc/xstartup file:
#!/bin/sh
# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
# unset SESSION_MANAGER
unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
# exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r HOME/.Xresources ]

File-system Corruption
Hi List,
I suppose this isn't strictly CentOS but I'm talking about some 5.5
servers so I thought someone else here may have had the same issues;
We power on servers at night via IPMI and shut them down the same way
for automation. The problem I'm facing is that the servers are
shutdown in about 2 seconds. IPMI provides remote access to the power
features as we know so I don't

Nvidia, vncserver, >> xfce = Resolved Issue
The suggestion from Marco to try a non-3D DE worked. I tried two methods:
1. minimal Centos 7 install and xfce install via CLI. Worked fine.
2. Gnome Centos 7 install and then xfce install via yum groupinstall.
Worked fine.
One tip for anyone doing this:
After starting vncserver the first time, it creates a ~/.vnc/xstartup
file. This will be the same type of session if you logged in locally.

VNC on centOS
yum -y install x11vnc
x11vnc -display :0 -forever -bg
firewall-cmd --add-port=5900/tcp --permanent
You should look into VNC passwords, I use the above command in a shell
script for each user in ~/.kde/Autostart
I believe the viewer I'm using is krdc?

Basic Permissions Questions
Hi List :)
So, I have a folder1, its owner is user1 who has r+w on the folder.
User2 is the group owner who only has read access (when I say user2, I
mean the group called user2, because when you make a new user the OS
can make them their own group). You can see these permissions below:
[user2 at host test]$ ls -l
drw-r----- 3 user1 user2 28 Nov 2 16:17 folder1

Authentication Problems
Hi List,
We have a CentOS VPS running a web site in a DC far away. The chap that
dev's this site told me he couldn't SFTP in yesterday, his password was
being rejected (I went to his desk to confirm and saw it was telling him the
password was incorrect but neither him nor me had changed it and we are the
only two with access to this VPS). So I logged in as root and reset his
password, be
