Need some clarifications regarding VT-d requirements for PCI passthrough in Xen 4.1
Hello, I am looking into building a workstation using Xen to host several operating systems. Looking at the pci passthrough requirements of Xen4.1 on the VTdHowTo<http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo>page, I am a little puzzled with the fact that only Intel Core2Duo (with VT-x), Core2Quad, i7 and Core i5 (vPro Brand) CPU''s are supported while motherboards with the i55x0

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back. Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology. I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website, http://www.msi.com/product/mb/." The problem is that

Trouble enabling VT-D: "I/O virtualisation disabled"
I have a chipset which supports VT-d (Intel X58) and, according to my motherboard manufacturers, VT-d is enabled in the BIOS and listed as "Intel VT." The problem is that xm dmesg shows "I/O virtualisation disabled" and I get this error message when I try to create a domU with a pci device assigned: ''Error: failed to assign device: maybe the platform doesn''t

Intel VT-d and Asus Desktop/Workstation mainboards, eg. Asus P9X79 WS
Good day to you Im a casual Xen user and am also using I/O Virtualization. I had always trouble getting DMAR tables (and IOMMU) recognized with Asus Mainboards, despite the fact that I always used this boards a lot. Since the Nehalem Intel architecture, I looked into Intel Mainboards due the fact that this seems to work out with Xen, Linux and VT-d. My request is, that someone who tried Asus

Intel CPU Comparison
I would like to gain some idea of the XCP impact of these two CPU versions: Intel Core i7-2600, 3.4 GHz Core i7-2600K, 3.5 GHz Both have VT-x Differences 2600K does not include: Embedded Opions Available vPro Technology Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O Trusted Execution Technology Is the difference critical? Thanks, ray

IPV4 is nearly depleted, are you ready for IPV6?
Seeing as IPV4 is near it's end of life (http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3915471/IPv4+Nearing+Final+Days.htm), I'm curios as who know whether everyone is ready for the changeover to IPV6? Is anyone using it in production already, and what are your experiences with it? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers SoftDux Website: http://www.SoftDux.com Technical Blog:

xen EFI boot and vga-passthrough
Hi all I can''t seem to find any information on vga-passthrough when booting through xen.efi, so I assume it should work. But I encounter a problem on a windows 7 HVM that boots fine when dom0 is booted through MBR but fails when dom0 is booted through UEFI. My system is: DQ77KB motherboard with bios version 44 Core i7-3779T with VT-d Intel HD graphics 4000 In the qemu log it

eval in parent frame: scoping rule confusion
Hi all, Look at the following "stupid" function that is created just to show the problem: outlayer <- function(x) { inlayer <- function(z){ e1 <- parent.frame() eval(expression(y<-log(z)),e1) } inlayer(10) y } I have a compilation error when running this. My purpose is to create "y" variable equal to log(z) in the frame of "outlay". How can I

Recommended computer resources to build llvm
I've got a i7 with 12 logical cores and 16GB of RAM I successfully built RELEASE_390/final but for the last 100 or so files I'd to use "ninja -j2" so as not to keep from swapping in the best case and and in the worst case the build kills itself without completing because apparently its run out of memory. For the first 3200 files or so it was doing just fine with

SIP hardware phones
I'm trying to understand why vendors keep making 100Mbps integrated 1-port switches in their hardware SIP phones. Even the recently-announced D40 and D50 Digium phones are limited to 100Mbps. Only the more expensive models (like the D70) can run at 1000Mbps. However, you can't expect a firm with hundreds of extensions to buy the most expensive model... And gigabit speed is important when

ACPI-Tables corrupted?
Hi, on a Nehalem system with VT-d enabled we are seeing strange ACPI-Table contents, especially a corrupted DMAR entry.
