Rsyslog weirdness
I just noticed that on one CentOS 5 server the logs messages, maillog
and a couple of others have been blank for a couple of weeks!
I tracked down the error to /etc/sysconfig/rsyslogd
There was a line
SYSLOGD_OPTIONS="-c3"
I googled that -c3 defines the "version" or "compatibility mode", and
with 3 it means "rsyslog v3 native interface".

rsyslog for chrooted sftp users has stopped working -- Centos 6.6
And no sooner do I send the email than I spot the problem. Oops! Sorry
about that.
The sshd_config needed to contain a different internal-sftp line:
Match User test-sftp-only
ChrootDirectory /home/sftp/mcsosftp
ForceCommand internal-sftp -f AUTHPRIV -l INFO
PasswordAuthentication no
AuthorizedKeysCommand /usr/local/bin/get_sftp_key

Rsyslog on C7
Hi,
I have problems with rsyslog on C7.
In /etc/rsyslog.d/iptables.conf I have:
# Log all iptables stuff separately
:msg, contains, "iptables: " {
action(type="omfile" file="/var/log/iptraf/info")
stop
}
THis works fine.
In /etc/rsyslog.d/mail.conf I have:
# Log all the mail messages in one place.
if ($syslogfacility-text == 'mail') then {

Rsyslog problems
Hi,
My rsyslog is not working as expected.
I have some thing in rsyslog.d that do well, like this:
# Log all iptables stuff separately
:msg, contains, "iptables: " {
action(type="omfile" file="/var/log/iptraf/info")
}
No problems with that.
Bu what's in /etc/rsyslog.conf like:
mail.* /var/log/mail/info
don't do anything at all.
Rsyslogd -N1 is OK,

rsyslog for chrooted sftp users has stopped working -- Centos 6.6
Hello everyone,
We have some chrooted sftp-only users on a CentOS release 6.6 server. The
server had been logging their actions, but after recent updates the logs
have stopped.
The server correctly logs non-chrooted users:

Samba Audit Logs
Hi,
My apologies if this isn't the right place to ask this question.
We have trying to setup auditing in Samba but can't seem to get it to work.
The audit log file is empty and we see some entries about file/folders in
the /var/log/samba/%m but not the actual audit bits. Can someone please
assist or point in the correct direction?

log file = /var/log/samba/%m

rsyslog.conf - why the "-" in this entry? mail.* -/var/log/maillog
In dealing with an unrelated issue I came across this in rsyslog.conf.
# The authpriv file has restricted access.
authpriv.* /var/log/secure
# Log all the mail messages in one place.
mail.* -/var/log/maillog
# Log cron stuff
cron.* /var/log/cron
Why is there a "-"

Syslog facility in Linux
Hi !
While browsing Linux manpages (man 3 syslog) I noticed that the manual
says that the LOG_AUTH facility is deprecated use LOG_AUTHPRIV instead.
Is there a good reason why OpenSSH doesn't have an option to use
LOG_AUTHPRIV facility ? (Looks like that tcpd/telnet etc. use the AUTHPRIV
facility (in RH6.2)).
Shouldn't be too hard to add the AUTH_PRIV facility ?
Cheers,
-Jarno

Can not capture internal-sftp process log in syslog
Hi,
I am trying to use internal-sftp to limit sftp only access to a set of users.
I have set sshd_config as follows
sshd_config
===========
Subsystem sftp internal-sftp -f LOCAL0 -l VERBOSE
Match group ftp
ChrootDirectory /sftp/%u
X11Forwarding no
AllowTcpForwarding no
ForceCommand internal-sftp -f LOCAL0 -l VERBOSE
Match
I am able to access internal-sftp and run sftp sessions properly.

n00b rsyslog.conf question - how to separate local syslog from network appliance syslog?
I have several network appliances, and I want aggregate their syslog
output for later analysis. Eventually I might think about a Splunk
box, but for the interim I'm hoping to just build a CentOS 6 syslog
server and have it aggregate everything on it for quick review.
I installed rsyslog and am looking through the /etc/rsyslog.conf file
for what I configure to (a) listen for syslog input from

log rotation not working
Hello,
I've got a Centos 5.4 box that is not rotating it's mail logs. I just
found out about this, the file is considerably large. I've included my
log rotation configs if anyone has any suggestions i'm open to them.
Thanks.
Dave.

BSD domU with HVM
Hi all!
I have recently purchased an Athlon X2 3800+ and I should like to
install FreeBSD or OpenBSD in a HVM domU on Xen 3.0.3-1 dom0 (Debian
packages). Is it possible? In such case, can someone recommend me a
guide/howto to accomplish it?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Daniel
