Need util to resize parition (Off Topic)
Hi all,
Sorry to post OT but I'm a bit stuck and I thought someone may know the
answer.
Originally I installed Red Hat 5.2 with 2 paritions, boot and root. I
upgraded to Red Hat 6 (kept the original filesystem) without a problem
some time ago, but now I want to upgrade to 7.2. When trying to install
the upgrade it tells me that the boot parition isnt big enough (by about
90k!) so I thought

partition magic
Does anyone know if i can resize
an ext3 partition with parition magic ?
Although ext3 is backwards compatible
with ext2, that doesn't mean it is
able to work in partition magic ? right ?
need to resize my harddrive without
installing over. too much to setup
from start. i rather buy the software
to repartition than to reinstall.

CentOS Images on AWS with partitions on /dev/xvda1 are awkwared to resize
I'm staring at the free CentOS images on AWS, and seeing that whoever
set those up elected to use a partition for /dev/xvda1 rather than
taking advantage of Amazon's tendency to use "/dev/xvda", "/dev/xvdb",
etc. for each disk and use those directly as a file system.
The result is that if you elect to allocate a larger base disk image,
for example allocating 50 Gig to

[PATCH] inspect: get windows drive letters for GPT disks.
This patch updates the guestfs_inspect_get_drive_mappings API call to
also return drive letters for GPT paritions. Previously this worked
only for MBR partitions. This is achieved by matching the GPT partition
GUID with the info stored in the blob from
HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\DosDevices keys. For GPT partions this blob
contains a "DMIO:ID:" prefix followed by a 16 byte binary GUID.

[PATCH] parted: add more udev_settle calls.
add udev_settle calls to print_partition_table and
sgdisk_info_extract_field because the inspect-os calls
guestfs_part_get_parttype and guestfs_part_get_gpt_guid for all
parition devices found and this causes intermittent with opening block
devices that are certainly present yet RESOLVE_DEVICE macro would fail
wiht ENOENT.

How to upgrade hard drive in a single drive (with LVM2) computer
This one has me stumped and I'm sure I must be missing something
trivial. What is is eludes me.
I have a 20G drive that will be replaced with a 160G drive. The /boot
partition is just a standard type 83, and the swap is an 82. The system
root partition is in a LV, as is the /home partition.
I've upgraded hard drives dozens of times without incident, but never
ona system with LVM.

help!: can't resize partition ("rather strange layout")
Hello,
First off, I'm not sure if my problem is with my filesystem, or with my partition table, so this may or may not be the appropriate list for this question - if not, I'd appreciate being pointed to a more appropriate forum. My problem is that when trying to resize, copy or move my ext3 partition in parted, I get the following error:
No Implementaion: this ext2 filesystem has a rather

Problem rsyncing 450GB file to my NAS: 'connection unexpectedly closed'
Hi list!
I'm trying to use rsync to do a regular remote backup of a 450GB sized
container file located on my squeeze server onto a colocated QNap NAS
device.
Both use rsync 3.0.7. While this setup works for most files, it fails on
this large file (see log below).
I'm already trying to help rsync using "-P" to indicate that rsync
should reuse the current copy and not trying

how can I get the 64bit JBD patch?
I see that ocfs2 has used 64bit JBD. I want to know where is the
64bit JBD patch? Whether the patch is developed by ocfs2 or not? Whether
the patch is developed by JBD itself?
Anyone can help me?

(large, external) data journal BUG (Assertion failure in __journal_drop_transaction() at fs/jbd/checkpoint.c:626: "transaction->t_forget == NULL")
Hi,
A couple of our important servers, both running FC4 but one i386 and one
x86_64, have been crashing recently. They both are running ext3
data=journal with large external journals and high commit intervals.
Both machines use the gdth driver for their hardware RAID sets, if
that's of any use. I think the hardware is good in both cases.
I hope someone finds this data useful enough to be

Problems patching fs/jbd/checkpoint.c in RHEL4 2.6.9-67.0.4 kernel
My manual patching of the rejects in checkpoint.c didn''t work out; a
delete of 10,000 files caused a panic (in any ext fs, not just
Lustre).
In the new checkpoint.c, two routines expected by the patch no longer
exist: __cleanup_transaction and __flush_buffer.
I can avoid the panic if I omit (don''t try to manually patch) the following:
Index: linux-2.6.9/fs/jbd/checkpoint.c

Location of grub.conf etc. with UEFI boot (CentOS 6)
Hi,
What's the proper/normal way of setting up GRUB for a CentOS 6
installation that boots using UEFI? I've recently set up such a system,
but for technical reasons I mentioned in an earlier post, I booted in
"legacy" mode during installation, which meant I didn't get the correct
UEFI boot configuration, and had to set it up subsequently "by hand".

Problems with ext3/jbd on 2.4.27-vrs1 with power management
Hello all,
I have a question about ext3/jbd for 2.4 as it pertains to the ARM
architecture. The presence of the ext3 and/or jbd drivers seem to cause
suspend/resume to stop working on our platform (SA1110 (StrongARM) -
based). My question is: are there any appropriate patches since 2.4.27
to either ext3 or jbd that may be appropos to this issue. I have also

centos5.5 text install forcing me to add all disks to LVM volgroup
Graphic installer doesn't like my graphics card, so I am using the text
installer. I have two physical disks in my system.
When I get to the "partitioning type" page, I choose "remove all partitions
on selected drives [etc]" and put an asterisk next to sda, no asterisk next
to sdb. I want to use sdb as a separate partition, no LVM, I figure I can
set it up after
