OT: ?? Centos Still Broken, Red Hat won't fix ??
To the Linux Community at Large:
I reported to this list back in January, 2010 that the standard x86_64
kernel, when built from the src.rpm and modified for AMD K8 / K10
Extensions would not build. I reported this here and to Red Hat via
Bugzilla ID number 558367. RH AS / Centos 5.3 worked fine. That was
Centos 5.4 / Red Hat Enterprise AS 5 Update 4. Today we tried to
optimize Red Hat

Centos 4.4 Install bug
To the Centos maintainers:
We tried to install Centos 4.4 i386 (i686 / Athlon)
on a Dual Opteron 254 Iwill DK8N MB, 1GB (4 x 256M)
system with a 3ware 9500S-4 and 4 x 80 GB disks
in a RAID 10 array.
Both tries caused Centos to first kernel panic
until we turned off IO-APIC in the BIOS.
Both tries also only loaded the UP kernel
and did not load the smp kernel on the machine.
The smp kernel was

Centos 3.4 3ware 9500S Floppy Boot Disk
We have created a Centos 9500S Floppy Boot Disk
for installing Centos on a 3ware 9500S series
controller that will allow installing and
booting directly from this controller.
This boot disk supports only AMD XP, MP and
Opterons in 32 bit mode Centos 3.4 for the
up and smp versions.
We can also do a x86_64 version if required.
Any interest????
If so we will post it to our web site.
Thanks

3ware 9500 SATA Raid controllers and provide increased
RAID 5 performance.
Also added to the download page is a version of 3DM2 disk

CentOS as an internet gateway
I would add the below:
-Recommend using CentOS 4.0
-Use squid rpm, no tar (this is for new users I'm guessing).
-Recommend using etherape and iptraf (available as rpms) for a graphical
overview of traffic. http://etherape.sourceforge.net/
-Recommend the use of chkrootkit, and TCP Wrappers (at the least put
ALL: ALL EXCEPT PARANOID in /etc/hosts.allow) to protect servers.

kernel 2.6.32-279.9.1.el6.x86_64 does not build from the source rpm's

Previous kernels build fine from the same directions. A little help from

smbd 3.6.9-151 Red Hat EL 6 crashes from time to time
Hi,
we still run a Red Hat EL 6.x samba-3.6.9-151 PDC with domain login,
roaming profiles, Windws 7 clients and LDAP back end.
In the last couple of weeks we notice some unregular crashes with abrt
reports. But as an university our RH subscription dose not include the
full support.
I cant see any changes to the installation or configuration which might
have an influence to the chrashes.
So any

CentOS 7 package not present in Red Hat EL 7 - qt-assistant
I'm using CentOS 7 for development of software that is sometimes used on
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. I conjunction with an update of one of the
applications, I asked some Red Hat users to install the Qt 4 Assistant
application via the qt-assistant package (which is used by a "help"
function in our software.) It seemed like there was no such package in
the Red Hat package set,

R-beta: configure problem (tcltk) on 64 bit Red Hat EL
Dear developeRs,
I use Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 2) on an
x86_64 machine (two Intel P4 CPUs with 64 bit support), and
R-beta_2005-12-12_r36712.tar.gz.
If I run configure without any options, it does not list tcltk among
the supported interfaces:

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
Hi all,
I've encountered a problem in using Samba 3.0.4. I've got a Red Hat 7.3
box (johnboy) running as a domain controller, and we've got symlinks to
a bunch of NFS mounts on a different machine (pawalton) to give people
the necessary file access using only one SMB mount. For example, the
SMB share is under /smbfiles in the root directory of the Samba server.
Within /smbfiles,

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
After receiving requests to post answers to this query,
I figured I'd resubscribe to let people know that there is,
in fact, a way around this. When I upgraded johnboy to Linux
kernel version 2.6.10, all the formerly problematic symlinks
worked. Apparently, the 2.6.10 kernel fixed some issues in
the smbfs code relating to symlinks (thanks to Ted McManus for
pointing this out to me). So if
