I noticed that PHP version is 5.1.6, the MYSQL is 5.0.45, and Apache is 2.2.3 I ran yum to update, thinking it would

assign index to colnames(matrix)
Hello, I’m trying to follow the syntax of a script from a journal website. In order to create a regression formula used later in the script, the regression matrix must have column names “X1”, “X2”, etc. I have tried to assign these column names to my matrix ScoutRSM.mat using a for loop, but I don’t know how to interpret the error message. Suggestions? Thanks, Paul

Network tuning for working with very old Solaris
G'day. I am trying to get a very old Solaris 5.7 server to ftp data to my updated CentOS 5.4 server but the Solaris box keeps losing networking after sending some data. I can't ping the Solaris box from any of the servers on my network. Could this be related to a much newer (modern) TCP/IP stack in Linux and TCP options? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for how I can tune the

PCI/DSS compliance on CentOS
I have a client project to implement PCI/DSS compliance. The PCI/DSS auditor has stipulated that the web server, application middleware (tomcat), the db server have to be on different systems. In addition the auditor has also stipulated that there be a NTP server, a "patch" server, The Host OS on all of the above nodes will be CentOS 6.2. Below is a list of things that would be

Slow boot when no serial pty connected
Hi everyone! It's the first time I send a message to this list, I hope it's not the last :) So my issue is that when booting a disk image generated with virt-builder [1] it takes more than 5 minutes, waiting in the boot screen that says: " Booting from disk... press any key to continue. " The press any key message shows up to 5 times. The issue is that it stays in that screen

Trimming the fat out of a Centos 4.4 Installation
Hi, just to avoid re-inventing the wheel, is there any document that can help me reduce even further a "minimum" installation of Centos 4.4 (BTW can you say 600mb is minimum)? I am in the process of creating a small Centos-4.4-based Asterisk box and I need to boot it from a CF card. Deleting useless packages will help me do what i want. Example: even a minimum install of Centos 4.4 (or

MyhtTV or Freevo or something else?
Hello, I have the idea brewing for some time in my mind - to build Linux based HTPC. It would be used for movies, cable (analog for now) recording, Stepmania, backup station, etc. And I would like to get some information before proceeding to estimate the cost. Which one of the Linux projects would you suggest and why? MythTV, Freevo or something else? Is CentOS good for such task or I should
