Samba as domain member server cannot authenticate users
This problem was already described on a very similar way in Oct 2004 on the following message: [http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-October/094683.html] As no solution was found so far, I am re-posting it on the hope that somebody can help. ================================================= Situation: - A windows2000 domain with active directory up and running. - A Samba server with

Offline login doesn't work with smbclient (NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS)
Hi, I have a samba4 AD setup with 2 DCs and one samba4 server with fileshares. If both my DCs are offline i can't login to any of the shares on the samba4 fileshare server with smbclient, but wbinfo -K works fine and ntlm_auth also works fine with offline cached credentials. ??san???root???~???smbcontrol winbind offline ???san???root???~???smbcontrol winbind onlinestatus PID 292952:

New Samba PDC for medium-sized mixed client domain
Hi all, I've recently inherited sysadmin duties for what is currently a badly-networked hodgepodge of Windows XP and 7 machines (currently about 50, but slowly growing). I would like to tie them to a domain, and we have a separate requirement for a common staff fileshare. We have a third-party contractor quoting later this week for what I suspect will be a Windows Server based network,

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
Hello, This error started after upgrading my distro(did a fresh install of fedora 30 server edition), which upgraded samba from 4.1.20 to 4.10.4. If I try to copy a file using a Windows 7 PC from the samba share to an old Windows CE share (on a CNC router table, so can't upgrade it) it tells me: An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error,

Samba tuning advise
Helo, We use a big fileserver running Linux/Samba as fileshare. We are facing performances problems for which we'd like some advise : Clients are OS2(LanManager) and windows 2000 reading and writing lots of files in the same directory on the fileshare. We currently have more than 80 000 files in the directory (files size is about 100 Bytes). Could you please advise us some Samba tuning

httpd crashes after signal HUP
Hello I'm running CentOS 5.3 with httpd-2.2.3-22.el5.centos.x86_64 and php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3.x86_64. When the logrotate scripts run and send the HUP signal to httpd, the httpd process quits instead of reloading. The only thing I can find in the logs is this: [Sun Apr 19 04:02:04 2009] [notice] seg fault or similar nasty error detected in the parent process There wasn't any segfault

Multiple computers using same Wine installation?
Hey guys, I have two Linux computers. I'd like to make it so that regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at, I can fire up Quicken (via Wine). Specifically, I want to access the same set of Quicken data files regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at. (I can be self-disciplined to only have Wine running on one computer at a time.) Does Wine support this? If so, would

OS/2 error while accessing samba share
I have a Samba server running version 3.0.2-6.3E on Whitebox Linux 3. The samba server is joined to a NT4 domain. I can access the share from my XP Pro box just fine. But, accessing the samba share from an OS/2 box results in an error. I am able to map the share just fine using 'net use'. But when I try to access the share within the GUI, I get the error: "No objects were found that

getting files and ACLs from a fileshare in Python
Hi, I am weighing Python for an application which needs to connect to a fileshare, to index the documents and also to retrieve the ACLs. Is there an equivalent of the Java libjcifs in Python? Given that the application will be running on Windows, what is the best way to use the win32 API from Python? If the application is running on Linux, I might be better off simply mounting the share. Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is: 1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ? 2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ? -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

Vista password being rejected on share security mode
I'm working on trying to get Samba 3.0.23c to work with Vista and I've run into a snag. If a share is set up for security = share, and protected with a password, when I try to mount the share using Start->Run->\\server\share, the password is rejected by Samba for about the first 10 seconds, but after that, it lets me in. I've tried all the common suggestions such as changing

Questions for minimal AD DC, DNS setup and Posix use
Our plan is to have one AD DC running in Head Office, RODC's at Branches and a second writeable DC at a contingency site. Fileshares will run on separate servers. The Windows 2003/2008 Servers use authentication services from samba4 and run applications. Our current environment is Samba-3.6.9 PDC,BDCs & fileshares, openldap stores samba, posix and acts as heimdal backend - for SSO. My

Vulnerability patch issue for 4.1.x
Hi list, When I back ported vulnerability patch to existing samba4.1.21, I'm facing many fileshare access functionality breaks. (All issues are with DCE-RPC calls failures. Even though I have applied DCE-RPC patch) I see vulnerability patches have been provided for 3.6.x, 4.0, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 but I don't see 4.1 patch for this. Many functions difference are there between 4.0, (4.1) ,

Windows XP & greyed-out Guest user password prompt
Hi, we've been using Samba for a while, and are just now starting to switch our desktop computers to Windows XP. We are having a problem where connections to our Samba server fail, and the user is presented with a password prompt asking for a password for user Guest. They can't select a different user. I've searched the Microsoft knowledgebase, and the Samba list archives, and

Tiny webserver to run as root
Hi all Does anyone have a suggestion for some software, a tiny webserver that is able to run as root and execute CGI scripts? It should be smaller than apache and preferably even smaller than lighttpd. It doesn't need a whole lot of features, it only needs to be able to execute CGI scripts. I have tried a few: nanoweb (which is written in php as well) but has some problems with CGI scripts

Slow write access with Samba 3.0.10-Debian
Hi! I've got a problem with write access on samba fileshares mounted via fstab on two Debian Sarge servers. These servers are behind firewalls and can only access each other, so security is not an issue. They are configured as follows: I'll use placeholders for IP-adresses, usernames, passwords etc. just out of paranoia, I do know, that these IPs do not make sense ;) the servers are

PCI modems
Hi all, I'm currently searching for a PCI modem that will be used to receive faxes. I've tried out a few modems but they all use conexant chipsets, which need out-of-tree kernel drivers and currently doesn't work here (kernel oops when the installation script modprobes the driver). Does anyone know of a PCI modem that works out of the box with in-tree kernel drivers? Thanks,

Installing on partitionable RAID arrays
Hello Since linux 2.6, the md layer has a feature called partitionable arrays. So instead of having two disks, creating an identical partition table on both and then putting those partitions in RAID 1, you take those two disks and put them in one partitionable RAID 1 array (in mdadm terms, "mdp") and create a partition table on the new RAID device. The advantages are quite clear
