Centos, Samba , WIN7
Hi Folks,
I've fresh installed CentOS 5.5 and realized, that Samba is in version
3.0.33-3.
Is it possible to conect WIN7 in a Samba-Dom?ne with this version?
And I've read abaut RHEL 5.6 with samba 3.5.4.
Can I expect, that this version is included in CentOS 5.6?
And can I get this version with yum-update?
Thx

DNS problem while trying to join windows 7 to samba3x pdc
I am running centos 5.5 using samba3x as a pdc. I migrated to samba3x so
that I could join Windows 7 machines to the domain. It is a new setup using
a tried and true configuration from a different box. I have used this
configuration in the past to joing Windows XP Pro machines. And I havn't
found anyting helpful on the error with google. I can ping the server name
and the server can ping

problem with domain and samba3x
Hi all
About 18 months ago I connected 14 new Windows 7 PCs to a Centos5.1 server
with samba3x as domain members. There are no other servers on site.
Today, I had to visit to connect up a PC in a new location. As I would
normally do I checked for Centos updates and found 35 outstanding including
samba3x 3.6.23-12.el5_11 and samba3x-client, samba3x-common, samba3x-doc,

Centos samba-3x / samba-3.6.6 - win7 will not join domain
Hi
Some advice needed on samba-3.6.6 for win7
Since getting my win7 ultimate pc, I've only used my centos server with
samba for a workgroup connection. Previously I had an XP client on this
domain.
I've updated today (17 feb 2013) to the latest centos5.9 (Linux
2.6.18-348.1.1.el5.centos.plus on i686) which includes samba3x with
samba-3.6.600.129_el5

Rebuilding samba3x rpms results in size doubled
Hi,
I have rebuilt samba3x SRPM in Centos 5.5. The resultings RPM's are nearly
in triple size of the original RPMs. I have installed and checked the binary
files are stripped. What can result in such difference in RPM sizes?
I have not changed anything on built and install sections of spec file.

Samba File Server as Domain Member of Samba PDC
Hi
We have configured 2 PDC Samba (v3.0.33, sambapdc1 and sambapdc2)
servers using LDAP (389 DS v1.2.5) as its database backend. If I run
"net rpc user -UXXXX" from theses servers I get all groups in LDAP.
These servers are working fine for a long time.
Now I have configured a file server (not logon server, sambafs1), as a
member of the domain served by those servers (this with

samba version to use on CentOS?
I see via yum that there is "samba" and there is "samba3x" available for CentOS (my boxes are hooked to the main CentOS repo, Fedora EPEL, and RPMFORGE).
'samba' is 3.0.33
'samba3x' is 3.3.8
Is there any down-side to upgrading to 'samba3x' and running 3.3.8 instead of 3.0.33? I'm assuming that, in general, I should be running the latest

samba 3 performance with windows 7 workstations
My customer has a Centos Linux 5.10 server running Samba 3. (Samba version
3.0.33-3.40.el5_10)
The machine is about three years old. I suggested that they should consider
replacing it with a Centos 6 machine and Samba 4, but they decided as it
was doing its job without any issues to keep it as is. I also suggested
updating to samba3x but they decided not to do this.
I recently installed a centos

Login batch file not working for Win7
HI
I'm running samba3x-3.5.10-0.110.el5_8.x86_64 on a fully updated
CentOS-5.8 system as PDC.
We upgraded our lab machines to Win7 over the summer
The logins work ok and the homes share is being mounted from a
separate fileserver. However the login batch command script is not
running. It's just a simple script which syncs the system time and
mounts another share.

windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi,
I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have
many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly.
However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified
network name is no longer available."
I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines
have no problem joining.
Per some googling,

windows7 and samba 3.4.7 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Is there a specific way of doing the smb.conf to make windows7 join the
domain?
was able to make windows7 join in one instance but when is not
successful in logging into the domain using a domain user and also
cannot add a domain user to the local machine.
From my initial attempts, I was able to join the win7 machine but after
I upgraded to 3.4.7 everything seems to have gone to hell.

confusion and problem with Samba v3.3.8 as PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello,
I'm trying to use samba v3.3.8 on Centos 5.5 to act as a PDC, using ldap as
the backend for users, groups, and computers. The ldap I'm using is Centos
Directory Server v8.1.
The setting is a new, never used before, installation of samba and ldap.
There are no users other than what exists by default after a Centos
install. The smb.conf contains what is my best guess for the
