Samba 3.4 authentication suddenly very slow.
After a scheduled power outage, with all hosts cleanly shut down, I'm having a bad performance issue on my samba server. This configuration has worked well for over a year, but after the power outage, attempting to access any share takes over a minute. net ads testjoin is fine, wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g returns the correct information. The shares CAN be accessed, once accessed, read and write

Very strange login errors.
We're finally trying to move off of Samba 2.x, and are having some very strange login issues. I've built two identical boxes, both running fully patched Ubuntu 9.10 x64, both have as packaged by Ubuntu 3.4.0 samba installs. Both are joined to the Active Directory server fine. net ads testjoin on both hosts reports "Join is OK" getent passwd on both hosts returns the full user

hard disk install failure
Has anybody successfully installed CentOS- I tried (several times) installing CentOS-5.6 from a hard disk, and each time it failed after installing all the rpms, with the warning "The installation has tried to mount image #2, but cannot find it on the hard drive." When I pressed the Debug button one time after the failure, it seemed to say that it was looking for the file in

Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck at all. I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information I put in, I get an error message. Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info, I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

gigabit networks and kernel loads
I have been using pxelinux with Intel 850 1.7 Ghz P4 motherboards using 10/100 ethernet switches for about a year in a multichannel visual generation system. We are shifting to SuperMicro P4SAA 2.8 Ghz P4 motherboards with onboard gigabit ethernet and gigabit ethernet switches. Put are hung up because the diskless slave nodes will not load the (Linux) kernel from the master 2.8 Ghz computer.

Unable to PXE boot
I'm replacing the master node in a cluster and having issues PXE booting the diskless nodes. The current master works fine, but the new node to replace the current node which has the same setup is having the issues. The hardware is: Dell r920 (new master node, UEFI) Dell r620's (diskless, BIOS) Dell 1950's (diskless, BIOS) When trying to boot, the 1950 node displays (though both

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
I have several machines, same hardware and config, but one tiny little change.. the hostname. Each one of these diskless machines needs its own hostname. Presently my pxelinux.cfg is setup like: prompt 1 default Gentoo timeout 10 label Gentoo kernel boot/kernel-3.16.5-gentoo APPEND root=/dev/nfs rw ip=dhcp nfsroot=192.168.1.10:/RAID/diskless/XXXXX-mythtv-0.27-fixes,tcp,rsize=131072

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the

Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to

PXELINUX 2.0 diskless booting RedHat 9.0
I'm trying to boot RedHat 9.0 on a diskless PC from a head machine running Redhat 9.0. The network appears to be setup correctly. I can boot the installation disk image fine using pxelinux. What I am trying to setup is a number of different Linux systems each with its own root directory on the head machine. I am hoping that I don't have to modify the kernel for any of these systems.

6.1-PRERELEASE nfs root troubles
currently i'm trying to setup diskless client, which netboots 6.1-PRERELEASE kernel with help of etherboot. i've built custom kernel with `sudo make -j4 buildkernel KERNCONF=DISKLESS CPUTYPE=pentium-mmx -DNO_MODULES' and attached config. kernell loads off tftp server fine, detecting devices, but traps, when trying to mount root fs from nfs server. i've managed to get copy of

memdisk and winPE diskless boot
Hi, I am working on the diskless booting over Infiniband networks. At the moment we have created and implemented architecture which allow diskless booting of Linux nodes on x86, x86_64 and Itanium platforms. The system works by booting first small custom made Linux kernel of the Infiniband adapter ROM. The kernel has enough of infiniband stack to setup TCP/IP networking over infiniband. Then it

Passing parameters for the server's hostname/ip to the client?
Hey everyone -- Is there a way to refer to the server with the tftpboot images so that when a client is booting diskless, it can mount an nfs directory to that tftp server? That is to say that I have a tftp server on 192.168.0.244. The usr directory is set to be shared amoung the diskless clients via nfs. In the root image, I have /etc/fstab set to something like: blah blah

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
Because everything I searched on for a PXELinux mailing list pointed me to here. And because PXELinux is a derivative of SYSLinux. If there is a better mailing list for my questions, please let me know. Since you say its possible, care to enlighten me on how to do so? probs running stuff from initrd
Hello all Now I may be way of whack here, so please forgive me. I''m trying to merge xen with redhat''s config-netboot. The idea being a kinda stateless domU. For those that haven''t seen you share a rootfs and then bind mount all the individual files over then top, and the redhat gui builds all the pxeboot config and stuff for you if you want a diskless client. I
