Iptables Question
I have a squid proxy running transparently, so in my firewall script
I run the following fairly early:
iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i $LAN -p tcp -m multiport --dports 80,443 -j REDIRECT --to-port 3128
This is a multihomed server so after this change the masquerading was
removed (as only web access on the lan side of this server was needed).
I now need to masq cleanly one device so that it

Google chrome vs network settings proxy?
I started using chrome on the RHEL7 beta after some firefox hangs -
but maybe this behavior is generic. I have the system 'network
settings/network proxy' set to use squid on another host for
connections out of the private range we use. This proxy requires
authentication so I can always tell the first time a browser uses it.
However, I can start a chrome connection to gmail and it

Web proxy/content filter w/ AD integration
I need to setup a proxy that does transparent auth to AD, does anyone
have experience or suggestions for a setup that will run in CentOS? I came
across an article on integrating Squid with Windows AD for auth but it
doesn't auth transparently (is that even possible?).
Thanks!

squid HA failover?
I'm running a pair of squids as an internal cache for some intermediate
data used by a web server farm and currently doing failover by going
through an F5 bigip. However, I'd like to avoid the bigip and use
heartbeat since there are only two machines. I don't need to sync any
content since it is a fast-changing cache and either machine can handle
everything. Is it possible to

xeyes kills freenx session
I was trying an assortment of things to get a remote X session working
(where I had forgotten to install the xauth package...) and noticed
that running xeyes kills my freenx session. This happened whether in
the NX/freenx session itself or when run on a remote machine via 'ssh
-Y', started from a window in a freenx session. Is that a known
problem or do I have something set up wrong?

Squid on CentOS 7: few questions
Hi,
I recently migrated my office's server from Slackware64 14.1 to CentOS
7. Right now I'm in the process of configuring the Squid web proxy. I
edited the default /etc/squid/squid.conf, and here's what I have so far:

# /etc/squid/squid.conf
# Nom d'h?te du serveur Squid

aacraid hard/firmware differences?
This isn't really a Centos question but it affects the systems so I'll
ask here anyway. I've noticed when swapping disks around on IBM 3550
boxes that some of them see one more cylinder on drives than others but
I can't find any settings or differences that might control this. It's
an obvious problem when you fdisk/format on the one that sees the
additional cylinder,

Hi, Les,
May I ask you to forward this to the list? I know I got one email from

security compliance vs. old software versions
What's the correct response to a security scan that points out that
apache versions below 2.2.14 have multiple known vulnerabilities? Is
there an official document about what known vulnerabilities have been
fixed in the RHEL/CentOS updates or do you have to wade through the
changelog to try to find each thing?

Samba and "running old wbinfo, pam_winbind or libnss_winbind clients"
I've just installed the Samba 3.0.7 on my FreeBSD box.
I am trying to authenticate it to the Active Directory (for my Squid
server).
When I go to a webpage using the squid server, I get this error from
Samba's Winbind:

NMS Opinions
A recent post that mentioned Zabbix inspired me to have a look at them again
while I was waiting on something as it?s been a while since I looked at them.
Currently, I was using Nagios but had to start using Munin to add some functionality
I needed and don?t want to continue down this road of supporting umpteen different
packages.
Between Zabbix, Pandora and HyperIQ, what would anyone familiar

VLAN issue
Less,
You are 100% right. Of course I brought up my eth0 - but, like you said,
with no IP. Meanwhile, I brought up eth0.48 with 192.168.48.100.
However, until I would bring up eth0 with an IP address (any in the
network) I would have no connection. Why? That's what I fail to understand.
Boris.

[squid-users] squid3 / debian stable / please update to 3.4.14
Hai,
You can very easy upgrade to 3.5.12 on Jessie.
Add sid to your sources.list, or better in :
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-sid.list
Only the deb-src line is needed.
Now apt-get update
# install dependecies.
apt-get build-dep squid
# get and build source.
apt-get source squid -b
if you missing something, get that package first, build it, install it and do above again.
