Theora encoder performance
I'm evaluating some video codecs for a online conference system. I'm encoding images (640x480) from a webcam. I've been playing around with theora and xvid. First of all, using theora, the decoded image looks strange: http://integrasoft.ro/~mgliga/theora/comparison.png <http://integrasoft.ro/%7Emgliga/theora/comparison.png>. Post-login script with LDAP virtual users
Dear sirs, I'm working on Post-login script for migrating 40K Courier-imap users to Dovecot. After reading related topics about post-login script in your documentation, mailing list, I cannot remove the problem described here-below. Is there any special config to add when users are virtual (authentication and user info is fed by LDAP server). I would be grad if anyone could give me advise.

Today, which installing something in Windows, I notice that it takes ages to install a program. how can I stress a server?
Hi all, I have a server, with an Intel DG35EC motherboard, Q9300 CPU, 8GB Kingston DDRII RAM which can't take a lot of load. I have 4 XEN VPS's on there, which doesn't consume more than 4GBM RAM at this stage. Yet, the machine sky rockets at some times. I've moved the XEN VPS's to another server, with 4GM RAM, and it doesn't cause the same problems. So, apart from

ZFS+ config for 8 drives, mostly reads
Hi, I posted in the Solaris install forum as well about the fileserver I''m building for media files but wanted to ask more specific questions about zfs here. The setup is 8x500GB SATAII drives to start and down the road another 4x750 SATAII drives, the machine will mostly be doing reads and streaming data over GigaE. -I''m under the impression that ZFS+(ZFS2) is similar to

Running dovecot on embedded device?
Hi, I'm considering buying a QNAP TS-212 NAS and I wonder if this device is powerful enough to run dovecot too (there is a pre-built dovecot package available from QNAP)? The main goal would be that my mail is stored centralized on the NAS, where I can access it from multiple systems without ending up with mail scattered over each system (which is exactly what is happening now due to the

Really annoying XMLRPC problem, can anyone help?
Hi everyone, I was working on a small program to contact a third party website and retrieve some classified advertisements. Information must be transmitted to the website in the form of a struct, and returned as a struct as well. I have managed to define the structs in question, but I have run into some really annoying bugs when trying to transmit information to the website. Whenever I

Annoying error (read_socket_data: recv failure for 4)
Hello all, I'm having troubles with a samba 2.2.2 server (on debian). Some clients are having problems connecting, and are filling the logs with messages like those below. This isn't the first time I've had this problem, nor is it the first site. This is a win98 box I'm having troubles with now - it fails trying to log onto the domain... although I'm fairly sure it affects

Annoying bug (?) in package cairoDevice
I apologize for sending this twice, I didn't realize that gmail helpfully defaulted to rich formatting. For some reason, Cairo_png puts a box around a figure when you call plot.new. It looks like box was called with black and a transparent background. Example: > library(cairoDevice) > Cairo_png('cairo.png') > plot.new() > dev.off() null device 1 The boarder is

Hey, I'm using rsync to transfer 100GB webserver files from one server to another. I have user who have ftp access to the folders that I transfer, so some files vanish while the transfer is going on. I read about the bug report https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3653 But that was last year and the bug report doesn't mention a real solution except the bash script. Did anything
