My future plan
My future plan currently looks like this for my VPS hosting solution, so any feedback would be appreciated:

Each Node:
Dell R210 Intel X3430 Quad Core 8GB RAM
Intel PT 1Gbps Server Dual Port NIC using linux "bonding"
Small pair of HDDs for OS (Probably in RAID1)
Each node will run about 10 - 15 customer guests

Storage Server:
Some Intel Quad Core Chip
2GB RAM (Maybe more?)

Bonding and Xen
Does anyone has implemented this sucessfully?
I am asking this because we are implementing Xen on our test lab machines,
which they hold up to three 3com and intel Nics 10/100mbps based.
These servers are meant to replace MS messaging and intranet webservers
which holds up to 5000 hits per day and thousands of mails, and probably the
Dom0 could not handle this kind of setup with only one 100mbps

hardware issues and new server advice
Hi,
sry if i hijack this, but maybe it's helpful for other gluster users...

RAID-10 vs Nested (RAID-0 on 2x RAID-1s)
Greetings-
I'm about to embark on a new installation of Centos 6 x64 on 4x SATA HDDs. The plan is to use RAID-10 as a nice combo between data security (RAID1) and speed (RAID0). However, I'm finding either a lack of raw information on the topic, or I'm having a mental issue preventing the osmosis of the implementation into my brain.
Option #1:
My understanding of RAID10 using 4

Performance: lots of small files, hdd, nvme etc.
Hello there,
as Strahil suggested a separate thread might be better.
current state:
- servers with 10TB hdds
- 2 hdds build up a sw raid1
- each raid1 is a brick
- so 5 bricks per server
- Volume info (complete below):
Volume Name: workdata
Type: Distributed-Replicate
Number of Bricks: 5 x 3 = 15
Bricks:
Brick1: gls1:/gluster/md3/workdata
Brick2: gls2:/gluster/md3/workdata

NS Question
Hello everyone,
I got a question, I'm not new in the linux scene or even a geek, but I
am confused about certain stuff regarding Bind, DNS stuff, or
whatsoever, maybe it's a silly question. Anyway.
About 3 years ago I hired a dedicated server in certain company, for
hosting my site and some other sites, didn't work at all the plan I
had, nevertheless I was using Redhat 9 or something

Actually,
pure NVME-based volume will be waste of money. Gluster excells when you have more servers and clients to consume that data.
I would choose? LVM cache (NVMEs) + HW RAID10 of SAS 15K disks to cope with the load. At least if you decide to go with more disks for the raids, use several? (not the built-in ones) controllers.
@Martin,
in order to get a more reliable setup, you will have to

Hello all,
I got this tiny problem, I bought an Asus m2n-vm hdmi mobo two weeks ago and
it seems not to be fully working under centos amd64(4.6, 4.9, 5.0, 5.1) or
even redhat EL 5.0 i386, amd64, I tried to install centos and redhat EL
using the linux dd and linux noprobe commands to load driver disk from
nVidia guys but it doesn't detect the HD I'm using their diferent versions

ZFS ZIL + L2ARC SSD Setup
I have some questions about the choice of SSDs to use for ZIL and L2ARC.
I''m trying to build an OpenSolaris iSCSI SAN out of a whitebox system,
which is intended to be used as a backup SAN during storage migration,
so it''s built on a tight budget.
The system currently has 4GB RAM, 3GHz Core2-Quad and 8x 500GB WD REII
SATA HDDs attached to an Areca 8port ARC-1220 controller

Change Web Server to another disk in Centos 5.2
Hi,
I'm new to CentOS 5.2 and I want to know how can I change the /var/www/html
directory to another disk. That disk is not even partitioned. I've googled
and even searched in centos.org forums and documentation, and found nothing.

I want to have in separate disks CentOS and my web server.

Can anybody recommend any CentOS 5.2 book, because every time I want to find
an answer to my

I'd like to contribute two wiki articles
Hi,
I've written two small howtos, and would like to contribute them to the CentOS
Wiki. The first one is "How to install CentOS 5 on software partitionable mdadm
RAID1", and the second one "How to repair a software mdadm RAID5 with two or
more failed disks (if you know that information is still on the disks and
readable)". I think that the first one should be somewhere

How many guests
Hi Everyone,
I have a Dell R210 server which has a Xeon X3430 Quad Core CPU (2.4Ghz x
4) with 8GB of RAM. I intend to use the H200 controller in a RAID1 setup
How many VMs do you think I''d be able to run on this machine? Is 20
pushing it?
I''d say most (if not all) guests would be in PV mode.
Thanks

Permission question
Hello,
We own a CentOS Server which hosts a few domains using Cpanel, however
each host or domain has its own user and its own folder under /home,
we want a separate user(newuser1) to have read and write privileges in
all home's subdirectories so we can do some tasks remotely using
WinSCP, that user is already in the sudoers group and the root login
is disabled in SSH for security, but I

Hardware Specs
Hello all!
I was wondering if you can help me a little bit...
My boss wants me to do some research in finding which hardware is most used
under Linux(ex. Dell servers, Barebones Kits, HP & Compaq servers, etc.)
This is just for budgeting issues...he wants to get rid of some old and
obsolete hardware we run and wants to know which hardware could be easy to
deploy on the server side and
