ext4 in 5.3
Hi guys - I'm really looking forward to 5.3 for the potential of ext4. I am moving/copying image files lately 8G file and it is slow. I am hoping that ext4 really speeds that up. My question is: will we be able to boot ext4 file systems? Will the boot partition still be ext3 and then have to mount the ext4 filesystem? I did not see mention of it in the release notes. Thanks, Jerry

How do I configure additional serial ports?
I have installed two 4-port serial cards (http://www.startech.com/ Product/ItemDetail.aspx?productid=PCI4S550&c=US) on a CentOS 4.4 system. The hardware appears to be recognized correctly, as kudzu added 2 entries to /etc/sysconfig/hwconf and lscpi shows both cards (output of lspci -vv for both cards included at the end of this email): # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation

deleting (empty) directories
I am evaluating rsync for the mirroring of a website and associated database. To exercise it and establish the correct run string I need I am running tests LOCALLY between two test directories. I have a /scratch/temp/Departure and a /scratch/temp/Arrival trees. I apply changes to the Departure tree, run rsync, and do a diff -r. Now I delete a file in Departure rm Departure/Quattro/uno.file

I have many quattro pro spreadsheets and no quattro pro. Is there a way to access the data using R, or any other solution that anyone can think of? thanks, -- Stephen Sefick Let's not spend our time and resources thinking about things that are so little or so large that all they really do for us is puff us up and make us feel like gods. again on file corruption
Hi, I've posted the same problem several months ago, You can find my post there: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-March/119244.html I summed up all the whole thing: I run a samba server based on slackware 10.2, using samba 3.0.20 with two clients: a windows 98 box and a windows 2000 box. I've got a share between the two system which hosts an old spreadsheet program (quattro pro)

Faceted bar plot shows wrong counts (ggplot2)
I have encountered a problem with faceted bar plots. I have tried to create something like the example explained in the ggplot2 book (see pp. 126-128): library(ggplot2) mpg4 <- subset(mpg, manufacturer %in% c("audi", "volkswagen", "jeep")) mpg4$manufacturer <- as.character(mpg4$manufacturer) mpg4$model <- as.character(mpg4$model) base <-

I am sendind the original data table from that I need make the same charts. First column (julian day)

smbd processes 99% cpu and end-user locks up
Still having a situation, in particular with Microsoft Office products (Excel, MS Word, etc), wherein a user locks up while saving a file. The scenario goes as follows: user opens up a file (excel document, word document, etc), user changes file, user hits save, user hangs... `top` reports an smbd belonging to user locked in some sort of loop causing 99% cpu utilization. net status sessions

IVT SCD serial port help
guys, A bit off topic here, but since this issue already has a history here: serial connection to the SCD, the never ending story ... - the intel D945GSEJT mainboard (ICH7) has two serial ports with onboard connectors which require a ribon cable to the external DB9 connectors in the case. I tested 5 cables, but none works. whereas I'm not sure if it is a cable problem. this is what dmesg

2 TB limit on USB drive
Hallo I submitted this as a bug several weeks ago, but I wanted to ask around & see if anyone else has come across this.... I have a USB Buffalo Drivestation Quattro, with 4 1TB disks configured in raid5 as one 2.8TB (or so) disk, attached to a Cent 5.4 64 bit server (completely yum'd up to date) The disk is labeled as GPT, and formatted as a 2.8 TB ext3 partition (this issue also

Good news Ubuntu`s update fixed problems in CoreDRAW 9
Its February 6, 2012. I just downloaded all the updates to Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. I think the updates just came out today. It was a bigger package of updates than the others I have installed in the past. I do not know what they did but whatever it was, it fixed most of the problems in CorelDRAW 9. I gave it a rating of bronze, and that was being generous, just a few days ago. It seems as thou

Setting up a pci passthrough device
I have been investigating pci pass-through for virtualized guests and the documentation I have found seems to me to lack a certain consistency in its example. This may be due to my not understanding what it is trying to inform me. What I wish to do is to configure a pci multi-port serial i/o card for use by a single virtual host. I start by running lspci -v on the host to identify the serial

Offline Folders
We have just recently started using Windows XP Offline Folders here, and it is causing all sorts of festive problems. If a folder is set for offline use on a client, whether that folder is on our samba server or not, the samba server becomes unavailable or only very slightly available at best. Example: Explorer - Windows 2003 Server, Quattro - samba 3.0.22 server on Solaris 9

Multiple Serial Port Passthrough in HVM domU
So, I made a mistake a bought four systems with the Intel Core i3 processors, without doing my homework to make sure that these systems actually supported VTd. Turns out there''s plenty of information out there indicating that the Core i3 processors do *not* support VTd. I was counting on VTd for two applications: Graphics Passthrough and passing through a PCIe 4-port serial card. Of
