NIS binding probs w/Firewall and SELinux
I have RHEL5 Server originally configured and installed by me with Firewall
enabled, but passing through NFS, Samba, and SSH. I then disabled SELinux.
As you all likely recall, I had configured a test environment to get samba and
nfs/nis up and running. I got it going, and recently brought it to a
production server.
After modifying the files on the production server and rebooting, I'm

cve-2010-0436 patch for CentOS 5.4
Hello,
I am using a self compiled kde-3.5.10 from ftp.kde.org as a desktop
system under CentOS 5.4. Does anybody knows where to get a
cve-2010-0436 patch (kdebase, kdm) for kde-3.5.10?
Thanks!

NIS problems
I've got a RHEL5 server acting as a NIS/NFS server, and connected one C5
machine just fine.
I'm trying to connect another, and for the life of me, cannot figure out
why NIS won't bind. NFS works fine. ypbind just hangs. I disabled
SELinux and the firewall. I just cannot get it to bind.
Ideas?
Thanks.

Cluster server options?
I have a 10 blade cluster of just hardware - I can install what I
want, how I want. ? What options are there if I wanted to build the 10
blades as one large beast, but _NOT_ necessarily for someone doing
grid-type work? ? ?Some users don't now how to program that way, but
they'd like to have their program run on something that acts like a
single processor, but a massive single processor

Help with nis password changes
I normally try not to ask questions until I have done as much research as
possible, and again, this is the case...
Just after I thought I had my RH5 samba/nis server working fine, I come across
the inability to update nis passwords.
>From the server as root:
passwd guest1

Package Distribution Server?
Dear List,
I'm trying to set up a lab with multiple workstations running CentOS
5. Does anybody knows how to keep the packages in sync among
workstations? Ideally I want any change made on any machine be able to
applied to all other machines. Alternatively, to "push" the changes
(add and/or remove packages) from one central server to all other
machine is also fine.
Thanks

umount oops
Hi,
I tried very promising btrfs to test it a little and I experienced a
little bug in implementation. I''m not sure where the bug lies however
this works quite well to reproduce the problem:
dd if=/dev/zero of=mountme bs=4k count=100000
dd if=/dev/zero of=mountme2 bs=4k count=100000
mkfs.btrfs mountme
mkfs.btrfs mountme2
mkdir loop loop2
mount -o loop mountme loop
mount -o loop mountme

NFS/NIS and firewalls
I have a few C5 machines on an isolated LAN that connect to a RHEL5
server via NFS and NIS for authentication. I discovered that one of the
C5 workstations worked fine for NFS exporting, but refused to
collaborate with the EL5 server for NIS user authentication.
I had successfully connected other systems to this server without issue,
but this machine was finicky.
I had initially enabled

GRUB, and how do I loathe thee
I just adore the install. Esp. of GRUB.
Does *anyone* who works on GRUB actually work in the real world, and not
only on brand new machines?
I just had happen at work what happened last fall on my home system: then,
I had /dev/hda, and was trying a clean install on a new SATA drive; right
now, I'm installing on a replacement disk on a server that has no CD/DVD

NIS/YP revelation (I think)
So I configured my Enterprise 5 server to have NFS configured on specific
ports via the NFS Server menu option.
Since having done that, I am unable to get my two CentOS 5 workstations to
bind via YP. One worked just fine before the port reconfiguration, but
broke after. The other never worked fine.
NFS works fine on both, but NIS will no longer bind.
What do I need to change on the client

Active Directory Integration Problems
Hello everyone,
I have setup Samba 3.0.28a on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. The setup that I
am working with is an exact copy (as far as I can tell) if an identical
installation that I did on a test box. Kerberos is setup and working
properly. I can use kinit to issue tickets. The box has been
successfully joined to the Active Directory domain. I can enumerate AD
users and groups. I can log

Filesystem missing from computer:///
Hi
Does anyone know what exactly controls which filesystems are listed when
opening Computer (URL computer:///) in the File Browser?
I have a system disk with 4 different data partitions, but only 3 of
them show up in the list. The "missing" one can, however, be mounted
just fine from the command line, and it's also included in
/dev/disk/by-label. It has an NTFS file system,

Confidence intervals around the MIC (Maximal information coefficient)
Dear R-Experts,
Here below is my R code (reproducible example) to calculate the confidence intervals around the spearman coefficient.

Confidence intervals around the MIC (Maximal information coefficient)
Hi Rui,
Many thanks. The R code works BUT the results I get are quite weird I guess !
MIC = 0.2650
Normal 95% CI = (0.9614, 1.0398)
The MIC is not inside the confidence intervals !
Is there something wrong in the R code ?
Here is the reproducible example :

C=c(2,4,5,6,3,4,5,7,8,7,6,5,6,7,7,8,5,4,3,2)
D=c(3,5,4,6,7,2,3,1,2,4,5,4,6,4,5,4,3,2,8,9)

Linux, Windows AD domain, and IDs
I have a Windows 200x AD Server and have a Linux box as a client
connected to the Windows domain having modified the native Kerberos,
smb.conf, and other files (not using Likewise).
It logs in to the domain fine and everything is happy.
There are NO local accounts in /etc/passwd except for the defaults out
of the box. Authentication relies on the accounts of the Windows
server.
I have no
