yum pinning rpms
I did a little googling for this, but only found meaningless references, since pin has too, too common other meanings. Is there a way to pin a version of a particular package with yum/rpm? I have the rpms for the beta 2.0 version of OpenOffice installed, so I'm not interested in the updates for OpenOffice 1.1.2-24.6.0.EL4 which are now coming in. Is there a way to instruct yum to ignore this

"sleeping without queue" ?
Hello! My attempt to build openoffice.org-3 seems to be hanging. Pressing Ctrl-T produces: load: 0.11 cmd: tcsh 79759 [sleeping without queue] 0.00u 0.00s 0% 0k (tcsh is used by OOo's build-script). What is this "sleeping without queue" state, and why is process in it for so long? This is an 4-CPU amd64 system with 4Gb of RAM. Only 16% of the swap is currently in use and

yum --allow-downgrade and versionlocking not working
with installed version 1.3.7 from rpmforge yum --allow-downgrade update rrdtool-1.2.30-1.el5.rf results in "no packages to update" yum --allow-downgrade install rrdtool-1.2.30-1.el5.rf says "already installed" So, how am I supposed to use --allow-downgrade then? I had to rpm -e --nodeps the newer packages to be able to install the older packages. Now I want to lock the

can't "yum install mplayer" : no libmpcdec.so.3 available
Just upgraded to 5.4 yesterday morning. (Kudos to those who did that!) That's probably irrelevant to this problem: "yum install mplayer" fails. Here's what happens: ================================================== # yum install mplayer Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, filter-data, kernel-module, keys, kmod, list- : data, merge-conf, security, upgrade-helper,

yum repo issue
hi all, i'm trying to understand an issue i'm having with a yum repo (it's a mirror of the c74 repo). there's an rpm in the repo (ibutils-libs in this case); but the client using this repo says it cannot find this rpm (i did yum info ibutils-libs --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=c74 to exclude all other repos). other rpms are ok to use, so nothing structural going wrong (i think)

Problem with yum on CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core) with 3.10.0-327.36.3.el7.x86_64 kernel
Everyone, I am at a loss on this problem would appreciate some guidance as to where to start to fix it. I noticed that my home gateway server was not being updated with the new kernel and other software, and when I ran yum it aborted with the following notices. I tried a yum clean all, but this did not fix the problem. I thought the problem may be related to one of the repos, but I have other

7.0-stable: a hung process - scheduler bug?
Hello! I was trying to build OpenOffice using all of my 4 CPUs. To be able to do other work on the machine comfortably, I ran the build under nice, and assigned real-time priority to the two Xorg processes. The build started at about 23:10 last night, and hung at 23:46. The procstat output for the make's process group is: PID PPID PGID SID TSID THR LOGIN WCHAN EMUL

OpenOffice Conversion
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 List, I have a rather unique question, that perhaps can be answered easily here.I did search google and only came up with one app that does this exact thing; however, it's an expensive tool. Thusly, not my cup of tea. I have need to convert approximately 100 documents in Openoffice's native format to Microsoft Word's native format.

Dynamic yum.conf 'exclude' line
Hi All, I have finally switched to using hiera (worthy goal!) and I am looking for a flexible way to manage the ''exclude'' line in /etc/yum.conf. I want to be able to specify from different classes RPMs to be excluded in /etc/yum.conf, then build the exclude line from all those classes that set an exclude. In my hiera hierarchy, I use %{calling_module}, but I actually modify

Off topic: Tcl/Tk outside R.
I'm trying to learn about the tcltk package and its uses. Floundering around a bit ... Have discovered Peter Dalgaard's articles in R-News, which should help. Also James Wettenhall's suite of examples look like they might be enlightening, even though the indications are that they are Windoze oriented. Be that as it were, I decided to fool around a bit with Tcl/Tk *outside* of R to

GUI/X11 login and shells other than bash?
Dear Experts, After one of updates that was released some time ago (a Month ago or maybe even earlier) I have noticed the following. On the machines with default runlevel 5 (sorry about old terminology, the new one is still confusing for me ;-) GUI/X11 login (display manager) lists only users whose default shell is bash. Or, at least users whose default shell is tcsh are not listed at all, and if

I log as root on the host (I havn't any other user). # 1. $HOME For a jail named "blog" with a "blog" user, which $HOME is at /home/blog, if I do: jexec -U blog blog tcsh My id is correct, but $HOME is still root. # 2.
