combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all, I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64 and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive. Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to make the USB bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files. I'd like to just be able to

How can I stop the eject of the DVD after install?
I have created my own install DVD with a custom kickstart file and modified the isolinux.cfg file to allow the system to boot off of the hard disk as the default mode. It will also use my kickstart file if I select it. Now I would like to make the system not eject the DVD after reboot. The machines I am installing on do not have a motorized tray that can automatically pull the DVD back in when a

USB DVD drive disappearing during kickstart install.
Hi folks. I maintain a bunch of centos based machines that are built using a somewhat stripped down (limited number but mainly stock rpms) centos distro. The installation process is plain anaconda stuff with a kickstart file on the root of the DVD/iso. The current hardware and media i'm using is DVD based. On machines that have internal DVD drives (all IDE CD/DVD drives), everything

customized centos 5.4 install, core install?
Hello, This might be called a core build not completely positive. What i want to do is make a completely customized centos 5.4 unattended CD or DVt not only installs a specific list of apps apps that i want on each system, but configures them automatically perhaps via scripts, and enables or disables services etc. Basically, i want to drop the CD or DVD in a box which will probably not have a

Custom CentOS DVD, isolinux.bin, and isohybrid...
I was given a custom CentOS 5.4 DVD, containing some Digium software for one of our customers. I need to turn this burned DVD into an image that can be written to a USB thumb drive. First, I ripped the DVD to an ISO image. That part works OK, my testing VM can load and run the custom kickstart script on the image. After totally frying my unetbootin install, I decided to try and use isohybrid

Updating the DVD ISO howto?
I seem to remember this being addressed before, but I can't find the howto anywhere. I've got a friend heading to another country with VERY limited bandwidth. He'd like me to update the 4.4 DVD to include all of the updated RPMS from updated. Where can I find the scripts to update the meta data on the RPMS and create a new bootable DVD? Thanks! Ben

Update to CentOS 6.0 without CD/DVD reader
I've had a disaster on my home network server; the partition table on the disk containing / has become corrupted, and testdisk has not enabled me to recover the table. If anyone can help with this I should be grateful. However, that is not what I am writing about. I've installed a substitute box - and HP MicroServer - which by a miracle has CentOS-5.6 installed on it. Now I'm

5.4 DVD
I admit I wasn't following the screaming and yelling about 5.4, so excuse me if this has been answered.... My boss tells me he wants me to start rolling out 5.4. I want to d/l & burn a DVD... but when I looked at a number of mirrors, the .iso is from 1 Oct, while the CD .iso's are from the 14th... yet 5.4 was officially announced the other day. Am I missing something, or do the

problem with 5.4 x86_64 DVD iso?
Hi all, I downloaded the 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO this morning (CentOS-5.4-x86_64-bin-DVD.iso). However, the md5sum and sha1sums both don't match what's in the md5sum.txt or the release notes (http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.4). I downloaded two ISOs from two different mirrors, RIT and ANL, and both ISOs have the same checksums (match each other), which are different from

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via USB and use this to kickstart. The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as label test kernel vmlinuz append initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=8192

unattended install via nfs
Hello, Does anyone have a guide for setting up an nfs server for unattended deployment of centos5? Basically what i want to do is boot a system from CD media, pass a boot parameter nfs, and ks= options then walk away, the box goes out to the nfs server, finds the kickstart file, reads, and does it. I've got several machines and i'd rather not do manual installs. Thanks. Dave.

Created a DVD from Gnome Desktop -CentOS-5.3
I am trying to put the dvd iso image of CentOS-5.4 onto a DVD. I have an LG multi-writer installed. I have used this device on this host to created CDs in the past but this is my first attempt at creating a dvd. When I put a blank DVD-R media in the drive then I see a desktop icon for "CD-ROM Disc" created. When I open the bittorent folder and click on the iso image

Hey folks, I'm at colocaiton in the middle of a big rebuild and it seems I have a faulty CD rom in the server that I need to put Centos on via Kickstart. So I cannot boot the Centos 5.4 net install CD. Is PXE kickstart easy to set up? I have a laptop here with DHCP already going. I google and a bunch of stuff comes up but it does not look simple.
