ftp issue in Centos 5.3
I manage a small server that I back up weekly. I do this by making a
tarball of relevant files then transferring it over the local subnet
to my station (Fedora 11), whereupon I burn it to DVD. There is no
optical burner on the server. The tarball amounts to a bit under 5
gigs. Recently I've started getting an error telling me to try PASV or
PORT first. I use the gFTP client on my

yum issue with extras repo?
Hello All,
As you can see below I am having a problem checking for updates. This
happens repeatedly. I have to kill the process then rerun. I have
tried "yum clean all" but no joy - the process hangs again on "extras"
- see second listing below. Suggestions?

RAID-10 vs Nested (RAID-0 on 2x RAID-1s)
Greetings-
I'm about to embark on a new installation of Centos 6 x64 on 4x SATA HDDs. The plan is to use RAID-10 as a nice combo between data security (RAID1) and speed (RAID0). However, I'm finding either a lack of raw information on the topic, or I'm having a mental issue preventing the osmosis of the implementation into my brain.
Option #1:
My understanding of RAID10 using 4

Raid 10 questions...2 drive
I have been reading lots of stuff but trying to find out if a raid10 2drive
setup is any better/worse than a normal raid 1 setup....I have to 1Tb drives
for my data and a seperate system drive, I am only interested in doing raid
on my data...
So i setup my initial test like this....
mdadm -v --create /dev/md0 --chunk 1024 --level=raid10 --raid-devices=2
/dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1

Multiple RAID support in CentOS?
Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me, I'm putting together a
Server for personal use, I want to virtualize a few servers(mail, web,
ssh) and use it as a NAS, but I have a question if I can use Multiple
RAID Arrays using the following HW:
Intel Xeon Quad Core X3430
ASUS P7F-M LGA 1156
- LSI MegaRAID(integrated)
- HighPoint RocketRAID 2640x1

Drive failed in 4-drive md RAID 10
I got the email that a drive in my 4-drive RAID10 setup failed. What are my

Drives are WD1000FYPS (Western Digital 1 TB 3.5" SATA).

mdadm Linux Raid 10: is it 0+1 or 1+0?
The relevance of this question can be found here:
http://aput.net/~jheiss/raid10/
I read the mdadm documents but I could not find a positive answer.
I even read the raid10 module source but I didn't find the answer there
either.
Does someone here know it?
Thank you!

RAID benchmarks
We (a small college with about 3000 active accounts) are currently in
the process of moving from UW IMAP running on linux to dovecot running
on a cluster of 3 or 4 new faster Linux machines. (Initially using
perdition to split the load.)
As we are building and designing the system, I'm attempting to take (or
find) benchmarks everywhere I can in order to make informed decisions

Software RAID 10?
Hello...
I have a server with 4 x SCSI drives and I would like to install Centos
4 (or 5) onto a software RAID 10 array. Do you know if this is
possible? I noticed that under the Centos 4.92 beta, RAID 5 is an option
but for some reason RAID 10 is not listed.
There does appear to be a RAID 10 module....

RAID MD10
I'm going to rebuild my system at home soon, and was planning to mirror
two drives. However, I was just looking up something about RAID, and on
wikipedia found some information about the Linux MD driver, and "near" and
"far" RAID10.
Anyone have some opinions about them?

"Shortcut" for creating a software RAID 60?
Hello all,
Testing stuff virtually over here before taking it to the physical servers.
I found a shortcut for creating a software RAID 10 ("--level=10"), device in
CentOS 6.
Looking at the below, I don't see anything about a shortcut for RAID 60.

First Time Setting up RAID
Arch = x86_64
CentOS-6.4
We have a cold server with 32Gb RAM and 8 x 3TB SATA drives mounted in hotswap
cells. The intended purpose of this system is as an ERP application and DBMS
host. The ERP application will likely eventually have web access but at the
moment only dedicated client applications can connect to it.
I am researching how to best set this system up for use as a production host

Software Raid 6
How slow and how reliable is software raid 6 on CentOS 5. The system I'm
going to use is A socket 939 dual core Athlon, 4 gigs of ram and a 3ware
7506-8 controller. Its mostly going to be used for storage (Movies, MP3s
etc.). Thanks.

Unable to mount loopback devices in RAID mode
Hi!
I recently tried to mount a filesystem in RAID1 mode using loopback devices. I followed the instructions at [1]. Here''s exactly what I''ve done:
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=raid1_0.img bs=1M count=500
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=raid1_1.img bs=1M count=500
$ mkfs.btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 raid1_0.img raid1_1.img
$ losetup /dev/loop0 raid1_0.img
