How do I change passwords / remove users for Samba?
I've got a bit of a problem with Samba. I just can't work out how to
change passwords or remove users.
I've just got user security.. lines in smb.conf are:
security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
I've removed the user using pdbedit, I've removed the unix user,
smbpasswd says the user doesn't exist
yet I can still connect to the shares. I'm

[OT] would any of you recommend a ticketing system?
Hi all, sorry for being OT but would any of you recommend a ticketing system?
We'd like something pretty comprehensive to cover helpdesk and HR stuff as
well as software bugs/requests. There seems to be a million variations
out there.

Can anyone suggest a decent backup system?
Hi all,
We have a bit of a problem with backups. We've been using bacula to tape
and now trying to disk but it's a complete nightmare as regards tape
management. The backup to file storage went ok for ages and now is stuck
'waiting for max storage jobs' which is odd as that's set to 20 and it's
the only backup running. That's totally typical of bacula.
Can anyone

(no subject)
Hi all,
I've got a bit of an issue with reinstalling a server. I can
get the installer to boot off a memory stick
made with unetbootin, but I can't seem to find the installation files
on the stick. I have hda, sda and sdb
but none are acceptable install media.
How do I mount the USB stick while in the installer to install off it?
DVD isn't an option because it's been

Dell openmanage srvadmin on 5.6
Hi all,
I'm just trying to get Dell openmanage to run on my Centos 5.6
box. The monitoring
stuff appears to have installed but the web server stuff is
complaining it needs openwsman
2.2.3 or later and I can only find that for RHEL/Centos 6, not 5.
Can anyone point me at a suitable rpm, or do I have to resort to
compiling it? Surely I'm not
the only one trying to do this.

Converting to maildir
Looking for a guide on converting to Maildir.
Here are our relevant specs.
sendmail-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.6 (we may not be able to upgrade this due to too many
modifications)
imap-2002d-14
procmail-3.22-10.el3.centos.0
To a maildir setup...

I was in a panic today at work because the backup server is filling up too
quickly, backing up peoples email. Further it is not backing up often

CUPS not rendering documents via Samba
Hi guys, any CUPS / Samba experts out there?
The CUPS printing guide is a horrendous maze of options. I've got
nearly there but I've got
one thing wrong and I don't know where to look.
I set up our two printers (HP K5400s) using the GUI printer tool. Both
print the test page just fine.
I set up the [printers] and [print$] shares and can browse to the
printers from Windows (XP for me)

Email/GroupWare Suite
Just wanted to get some thoughts from the list.....
We are a public k-12 school and are looking to migrate to a groupware
style system for out staff to collaborate better. Currently we are using
Squirrelmail/postfix for email. Does anyone have any
recommendations/opinions. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Does anyone know where I can get an RPM of pyDB2?
Sorry to be a pain but I'd really like PyDB2 (DB2 client for python).
IBM only seem to offer the source which won't compile without a copy of
DB2. I only need it to extract some info from a customer site so I don't
really want to have to get DB2.
any ideas?
thanks

howto avoid Samba
Dear All,
I'm replacing an older OpenSuse server with a new Centos6.4 server.
So far that goes ok, except that the OpenSuse server is also a samba
server with ldap connection.
Since I replaced all but 2 machines in the building from Windows to
Linux, I was hoping not to install Samba on the new server. ( And also
because I can't get it to work on Centos. )
I saw a post on the

PGina & Samba
Does anyone have any experience using PGina with Samba for a simple "single
sign on" approach using Windows clients? If so, I would love to know how it
is working for you. I tried posting here a bit ago for a way to do this
("single sign on") with samba only, but I didn't get any responses and
therefore looked into other opportunities.
Thanks.

From Database, PHP-Webinterface -> TO flatfileconfiguration
Hi.
I've started working on a PHP-project that generates the configuration
files i need based on what's in my MYSQL database. I can add, delete and
edit users from the web. I can set up exactly the dialplan i need by
arranging the users in a firms and groups if needed. I've also set up a
java servlet so that i can get asterisk to reload by pushing a button
from the web-interface. The

Zimbra vs. Scalix vs. et. al.
Well, I stumbled onto zimbra....
I have a Scallix system built, but still have some rough edges to try to
smooth. Like the way it works with sendmail, no dnsbl's will work as
sendmail sees all mail as coming from locohost (scalix). Still battling
that one which is when I ran across Zimbra.
So, this made me start wondering.
Are there other exchange server-like products out there?

URL of website doesn't point anymore to CentOS/Drupal installation
sorry for the vague subject, but I couldn't find a better one.
I have the website http://digifreedom.net running on a Centos 4 VPS
with Apache and Drupal 6.10 . This is a multisite Drupal setup: only
one installation, with subdirectories in sites/, and a separate mysql
database for each website. For several reasons, I had setup DNS,
drupal and everything to work without the www prefix on

Zimbra, Scalix or something else..
Hello all,
I've played with both Zimbra and Scalix and they seem quite nice and do
pretty much what I want. I'm now at the point where I am considering
retiring my trusty old courier-imap service in favour of one of these
two, unless of course anyone has any other recommendations or
suggestions. I'd probably be doing this inside a centos 4.4 Xen VMs
running on centos 5 when it comes

Installing Java 1.4.2
For scalix on Centos the Scalix forum provides instructions for
convincing Scalix that Centos is Redhat:
http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=516&highlight=centos
I am up to the point of getting Java JDK1.4.2 installed.
I did a: yum list|grep "java" and got:
gcc-java.i386 3.4.4-2
installed
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat.noarch

pGINA and samba - authentication against LDAP userPassword field?
Hi,
Back to a while ago, someone mentioned about taking pGINA code to samba, so samba can work against LDAP authentication, but instead of using the sambaNTPassword and sambaLMPassword, this way samba can use the userPassword field directly.
This sounds very promissing because we can then just use one set of passwords. It may be not usable in a domain enviroment where machine accounts and other

Samba and Scalix
I'm hoping to integrate a shared folder(s) so that we may be able to
drag and drop files from various OSs into a shared folder on a
CentOS server which can be accessed via Scalix SWA or some other email
client.
Maybe I'm totally off base with how Scalix stores files in public
folders... maybe everything has to be in mbox format for all folders and
this could never work.....
Anyway, I
