Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000
laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it
into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized.
I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either...
I thought USB was well established....
I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support
might get my networking going...
I am stuck???

I am using centos5.3 x86_64 on a gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H motherboard.
When I insert a USB thumbdrive its detected with dmesg, I mount it and
start to copy files.
Then I start getting errors:

motherboard for cents 6.3
Seems like overnight every motherboard that worked with linux has
DROPPED off
the face of the earth.
Every motherboard I looked at is using the realtek 8111 chipset and a
northbridge
that is not supported.
Example: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3, does not work with linux
I tried disabling the onboard NIC and using a PCI-E intel card I always use
and that would not work either. The north or south bridge

compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi,
I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this
machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf
"acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic"
the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic!
So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop.
they had no effect.... This AMD turion 64 4000+ rating laptop is still
running SLOWWW...

syslinux-3.80-1 will not boot from usb drive on Intel 845 motherboard
I tried formating a 1 gig usb flash drive as fat 16 under fedora 9
using gparted-0.4.3-1.fc9.i386 and syslinux-3.80-1.i386 and and the
drive will not boot.
No error message, no nothing from Syslinux.
There's only a slight pause as if the bios is looking at the usb drive
and the bootloader syslinux created but can't seem to make heads or
tails of it and then grub boots up from the mbr of

usb device path/name translating
I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for in google, hopefully
someone has dealt with these sorts of issues in the past.
I have a machine where my messages file keeps getting lines like:

Install on a usb flash drive
I all,
I was thinking about installing centos on a usb flash drive. Perhaps a 4GIG.
I dont need X or anything on this drive so installing should fit just fine.
Are there boot issues with these flash drives? I'll be using a newer
motherboard
so the motherboard should be able to boot USB.
Does this work? Have others done anything with flash drives? I am
wanting this
flash drive to be the

USB not detected after update
Hi all,
currently on a lenovo R60, after upgrading the CentOS 5.1 I cant detect
the USB device any more. The initial installation doesnt have any
problems at all. Cannot find solution in forums and bugs either. I am
not sure if its a bug or wrongly did an update. The lsusb did not show
the device.
Things I did:
(1) updated to 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 i686
then to 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 i686

Question on script
Hi all,
I am trying to extract from the aplay -l output the Card and Device numbers.
I had a script that was working but found another motherboard that has
an EXTRA word.
HDA Nvidia and HDA ATI HDMI is what I am talking about below.
how do I search for a line that has HDMI (which I know how to do), then
ignore everything upto the device work and take the next field after that?
Thanks,
Jerry

3TB External USB Drive isn't recognized
We have a 3TB external USB drive that I am trying to attach to some CentOS5
servers. I have tried an older Dell PE1950 and a newer R310 but neither one
seems to be able to read the drive. It works no problem on windows
servers/workstations and I was able to format with NTFS.
I know there are different methods for formatting large disks but this one
doesn't even seem to show up as a /dev/

I'm having a problem mounting my new
CDRW DVD in my new machine I just built. The motherboard is an Intel
DP35DP, and I connected the CDRW DVD via ribbon cable into the
motherboard IDE slot. Centos 5.1 is installed and functioning fine
so far (other than this problem).

SOLVED: CDRW-DVD Mount Problem, Centos 5.1, Intel board...
Problem has been solved: "sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom -o"
mounted the drive after adding "mount /mnt/cdrom" to /etc/festab.

usb 3
I am trying to plug a USB 2 device in a USB 3 slot. Nothing is being
detected
in "lsusb". Is there something special I need to do? I am running centos
5.5 x86_64.
I thought 3.0 was backward compatible. Nothing special about my device
its an RS232 to USB device.
It works in 2.0 slot.
Thanks,

My motherboard/cpu/memory seems to hang when rsync runs...?
Is this just because rsync gives it a work out?
I may drop using this motherboard, since the store will not replace it, and
thinks it's a hard drive problem, and the board has no way to underclock even
as a test.
What about changing from 1300 MHz to 800Mhz AThlon processor... think that
would help an AZZA KT3 ABX motherboard work easier?
