File permissions
Hello,
I need to know if there is something I am missing about file permission as I
believe I am seeing some strange stuff on my system. I have a directory as
follows:
drwxrwxrwx 7 root root 4096 Mar 10 13:35 temp
In this directory I have a file:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 137 Oct 30 02:16 208-109-248-33test
As a normal user should I be able to rename this file? I believe that only

FireFox
Can anyone tell me if there are plans to update Firefox to the new 3.0 for
Centos 4.5? Seems like only the 1.5 version has been placed in the repos and
I think it should be time for an upgrade.
If I'm looking in the wrong place let me know also. Thnx.

XEN and RAID
Hello,
I am looking for good website with information on the above 2 items listed in
the subject. I have place some with RAID and believe I am picking that up
but XEN is another story. I have some free time coming and would really like
to learn both and build my present machine into a VM with many hosts
installed for testing/learning. Any and all information/links you could

CentOS and Bash History
Hi,
I was wondering if bash or inputrc has changed form CentOS v4 to CentOS v5?
Reason I ask is at the bash cli I can type, for example 'su' and then with
the up and down arrows I can scroll through my history and will only see the
commands that begin with 'su'. In CentOS 5 this isn't the case.
I have added some code to my inputrc file to make this work in CentOS 4 as

Centos and Bridging
Hello,
Presently I am running CentOS release 5.5 (Final). I am looking to setup
bridging as I would like to setup some KVM virtual hosts on my system as a
test lab. I am following the the instruction at this site
> http://tldp.org/HOWTO/BRIDGE-STP-HOWTO/index.html
but I cannot figure out where I am going wrong and would be thankful if
someone could point me in the right direction.

Centos & UPS
Hello,
I received for X-mas an APC UPS system form my computer. I'm looking for how
I can integrate it into the system so that the system will shut down either
after the UPS power is low enough or a timed event after the power is out
will automatically shutdown. Would also like it to be smart enough to stop
the shut down process if power is restored before the shutdown starts.

Issues with SNMP
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing the same issues I'm seeing here. I
have recently upgraded one of my systems from 4.4 to 4.5 and ever since then
I cannot get snmp to work. I am monitoring the interface traffic. Please
keep in mind the firewall/router I do the same thing without any issues for 4
interfaces and it is still at 4.4 and doesn't have any issues.

64 bit
Hello,
Presently I am considering using CentOS as my base OS. I am wondering about a
few things though. I like KVirc as my irc program. I have had issue with
compiling it in 64bit mode under Fedora 3 and was todl it was because Fedora
installs both 32 and 64 bit libs and the compiler didn't understnad which to
use. Will this be an issue with CentOS 4 also?
If I install the 64 bit

USB Mem Stick
Hi all,
Is there any good how-to's for getting a usb memory stick to auto mount when
it is connected to the usb port? Or is this to happen automatically? I got
a 2G memory stick for Christmas so that I can transfer files from machine to
machine (home/work) but it doesn't look like it mounts automatically like the
cdrom does. Thnx for your input.

umount oops
Hi,
I tried very promising btrfs to test it a little and I experienced a
little bug in implementation. I''m not sure where the bug lies however
this works quite well to reproduce the problem:
dd if=/dev/zero of=mountme bs=4k count=100000
dd if=/dev/zero of=mountme2 bs=4k count=100000
mkfs.btrfs mountme
mkfs.btrfs mountme2
mkdir loop loop2
mount -o loop mountme loop
mount -o loop mountme

Firewall frustration
Well FWbuilder is NOT easy. The documentation does not match the
current GUI. Now the box is locked up. I will have to pull it again,
hook it up to a kybd/VGA and reset iptables....
Maybe Shoreline with webmin....
Problem is I want a REAL router/firewall with little work. Both public
and private nets have routable addresses. No NATing for me! I just
