HP SureStore 40x6e - Multiple LUN's problem on CentOS 4.4
This is one of those autoloaders where the tape drive and the library share a SCSI ID, but are on different LUN's - specifically the library should be on LUN 1. Apparently since so many devices like this are broken, recent kernels don't probe beyond the first LUN, so it's not detecting the library. My /proc/scsi/scsi output: Attached devices: Host: scsi4 Channel: 01 Id: 00 Lun:

gmirror+gjournal: unable to boot after crash
Hi, after one month with gmirror and gjournal running on a 7.0-RELEASE #p2 amd64 (built from latest CVS source), the box hung a couple of times when on high disk load. Finally, while building some port it won't boot for no reason obvious to me. This is what I get with kernel.geom.mirror.debug=2: ata2-master: pio=PIO4 wdma=WDMA2 udma=UDMA133 cable=40 wire ad4: 476940MB <SAMSUNG HD501LJ

Problems with OCFSTOOL after LUN Maintenance
In installing 10g\RAC we hit an issue that has been indentified as a bug with CRS where the cluster locking files cannot be implemented under OCFS. Supposedly they work fine when implemented as Raw Devices. We needed to reclaim some space from existing LUN's to create the raw devices as we had expected to able to put all Oracle related files under OCFS (Yes, we belived the hype). This

[PATCH] virtio-scsi spec: add per-LUN parameter query
Each virtio scsi HBA has global request queue limits. But the passthrough LUNs (scsi-generic) come from different host HBAs may have different request queue limits. If the guest sends commands that exceed the host limits, the commands will be rejected by host HAB. To address this issue, this patch adds a per-LUN parameter query via the control queue, and defines some parameter query types. The

LVM related bug in the GPL PV drivers for Windows?
Dear Xen users! In case you were struggling with recent version of th gplpv drivers, I''ve possibly found an LVM related bug in it, and reported to James Harper. Thats''s the point: I''ve tested the mentioned version of your driver on top of 32bit xen-3.2.1 32bit xen-3.3.0 and 64bit xen xen-3.3.0 hypervisors, dom0 was always an appropriate version of a 32bit PAE kernel,

Disable specific LUN on a SCSI bus
Hi all, do you know if there is a way at boot time do disable specific LUN's on a SCSI bus of a particular controller? I'm trying to write an udev rule, but it seems that the system ignores the "vendor" model/name of the controller... For example: I want to disable /dev/sdb; so I gather some information with udevinfo -a -p /sys/block/sdb and I try to use them to write

[libnbd PATCH] maint: Use $(NULL) for all Makefile.am macro lists
This borrows from a trick in libvirt - by defining $(NULL) to expand to an empty string, we can more consistently write multi-line macros where all useful lines terminate with \, making it easier to add/remove lines without worrying about whether \ needs to be touched up on neighboring lines. --- Looks big, but is fairly mechanical. I'm also doing a similar patch for nbdkit, where it would

MAX_LUNS SIZE LIMIT ON RHEL 3.0 and 4.0
Dear List Users- IHAC planning storage layout and is looking for the following MAX_LUNS size limit on RHEL 3.0 and 4.0. Details are below. Customer database size is estimated to grow to 5 TB and worries that they will not be able to present enough devices to the system if used with EMC powerpath and RHEL 3.0 max_lun limitations. I have advised on using OCFS or ASM as this is a 10g Database

Samba slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems
Ok, I'm experiencing slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems (of a specific SAN configuration). Here's my layout: I have a server cluster. OS= RHEL 5.4 (both nodes...) kernel= 2.6.18-194.11.3.el5 Samba= samba-3.0.33-3.14.el5 *On this cluster are 6 GFS2 Clustered filesystems. *4 of these volumes belong to one huge LUN (1.8 TB), spanning 8 disks. The other 2 remaining volumes are 1

Re: attaching storage pool error
Hi again! Need to add here, since I been investigating a bit further, that it seems to be possible to add an NPIV vhba to the guest, using vdsm hooks. I've seen the reference to "host device assignments", which Dan pointed me too, but I didn't really understand the meaning of it at that moment. It would be interesting to hear from someone that have been doing it, how it would

USB multi-card reader working, finally took the time
A thread on multi-cards 2 months ago, gave me a hint on how to get usb multi-card readers working: Quoting "J.J. Garcia" <stigmatedbrain at gmail.com>: "Have you tried putting it into /etc/modprobe.conf (options scsi_mod max_luns=32) and rebuilding initrd image after that? That's the way I was doing it so far, and it always worked for me. " So I then had to

[libnbd PATCH 1/1] api: Add support for FAST_ZERO flag
Qemu was able to demonstrate that knowing whether a zero operation is fast is useful when copying from one image to another: there is a choice between bulk pre-zeroing and then revisiting the data sections (fewer transactions, but depends on the zeroing to be fast), vs. visiting every portion of the disk only once (more transactions, but no time lost to duplicated I/O due to slow zeroes). As

Expanding (growing) Filesystemss
We want to expand the LUN's on our SAN. I have expanded the LUN's, rebooted the hosts, now want the hosts to mount up the larger LUN, but they still see the original size. How risky is it to use tuneocfs to grow the filesystem after the expanded LUN is presented to the host? I was unable to find anything outside the man page for it. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text

Hi, John, and thank you! This was a very thorough and welcome response, I was wondering where all the storage guys were... I will get back to you with more details later, specifically about multipath, since this needs to be investigated thoroughly. I have, with trial and error method, during the elapsed time, been able to attach the NPIV pool LUN to a virtio-scsi controller, and it seems it

[libnbd PATCH] api: Add way to avoid structured replies
We want to default to requesting structured replies, whether or not that request will be honored (it's essential for efficient sparse file reads and the DF flag for structured pread, as well as for meta context support even if we do not request a default meta context). However, for integration testing, it can be nice to easily request a client that does not request structured replies. We can

Doc v2: How to use NPIV in libvirt
Thanks for John Ferlan's lots of internal feedbacks, I believe it's more readable, and better orgnized now. Multiple LUN support
Hi all... I have a scsi Tape library. Centos only sees the tape drive portion of the library. I need to enable Multiple LUN support to get the library and tape drive recognized. I am looking for some help enabling multiple lun support in Centos 4. I had a procedure on how to do this in the 2.4 kernel but it doesn't seem to work in the 2.6. Any help would be appreciated.
