win2000 service pack 4 - samba 2.2.2
Hello,
At 5pm today, we had an individual notify me that their 'profile' no longer was
accessible from the samba server (solaris 8 , smb 2.2.2). The person just had
their laptop reimaged and the new M$ service-pack 4 was installed on it.
They can access their 'home directory' just not the profile one. Error is
concerning the user not having access, versus rights. I installed the

exporting a zfs pool from SPARC to x86
Hi Folks,
I''ve got a 4 Tb pool on a 3511 array. The pool was created from, and
is mounted on, an old 280r. I''d like to export the pool from the 280r
and import it to a shiny new x2200.
Will this work? Will the x2200 understand the disk labels made by the
280r? Some tests we''ve done on a smaller, non-production pool suggest
not.
Suggestions or pointers welcome.

prompt to update a host key
As far as I can tell, there currently isn't a straightforward way to
use password authentication for connecting to hosts where the host key
changes frequently. I realize this is a fairly niche use case, but
when developing software for devices that often get reimaged
(resulting in a host key change), it can get pretty tedious to attempt
to connect, get a warning, remove the old host key via

Problems with Sunfire X2200
Hello all!
We are testing virtualization with two Sun X2200 M2 (2 x Opteron Dual Core)
with Xen (3.1.3, locally compiled, Debian etch), KVM (Debian Sid) and
Windows Virtual Server
(Windows 2003 Server). We have tried paravirtualization and also full
virtualization (Pacifica).
In all cases we have experienced problems regarding stability in the
systems,

kickstart problems
Hi
I'm having a problem with setting up a kickstart environment based on
CentOS 5.2 x86_64, on a Sun X2200 M2 server (both the server and the client
in the kickstart environment are Sun X2200 M2 systems): the first attempt to
load stage2.img fails with the error screen: "unable to retrieve
http://192.168.11.10/source/images/stage2.img". Pressing the "OK" button

7.2-PRERELEASE/sunx2200/bge/msi broken
Hi,
between March 16 and now, bge on a Sun X2200 stopped working,
turning off msi (via hw..pci.enable_msi=0) got it working again.
I tried first replacing bge with an older version but that did not help.
please advice :-)

X2200-M2
After the interesting revelations about the X2100 and it''s hot-swap abilities,
what are the abilities of the X2200-M2''s disk subsystem, and is ZFS going to
tickle any wierdness out of them?

which server to buy?
Hello!
Please, help me, I''m totally lost choosing basic budget server for XEN.
The variants are Sun (X2200 M2 or Sun X2250 M2) or maybe HP Proliant
DL160 G5p. Or maybe some IBM server?
Which X2200 configuration will perform better, two Opteron dual-core
22xx or single quad-core 23xx?
Which one performing better nowadays, Opteron or Xeon? I know that 2-3
years ago Opteron was the

Friends,

zfs root pool on upgraded host
Hi,
I installed opensolaris on a x2200 m2 with two internal drives that had
an existing root pool with a Solaris 10 update 6. After installing
opensolaris 2009.06 the host refused to boot. The opensolaris install
was fine. I had to pull the second hard drive to get the host to boot.
Then insert the second drive and relabel the old root pool to something
other than rpool. Then the host was

Samba Configuration Assistance Please
Hello All,
I wouldn't write with such a trivial sounding problem if I didn't have
to - Sorry.
I have two machines on LAN 192.168.0. One is a windows machine, one is
a Redhat 9 machine. I have been trying to get samba set up for two
weeks now.
I first installed RedHat 9 with GUI and then reimaged my windows box.
Everything worked like a charm and Samba was perfect. Me being

Module.symvers
I am going into:
/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-x86_64
and doing a "make mrproper"
attempting to rebuild the Modules.symvers file. As I added ALSA 1.0.17
to the current kernel.
I am getting an error:

ETA
Dear developers,
I don't care for reasons, arguments, or flamefests. I need to plan my
workload.
By now I have half a dozen servers overdue for reimaging. I can put this
off for another week or two, but not really much longer.
There's obviously no point in installing centos 5 on any new machine.
So I need to know: is there any point in my waiting another week, or
should I just say

CentOS 4.4 ia64?
Greetings list,
I had a quick spin through the archives and don't see any discussion on this
question:
Is there a reason why the ia64 download directories for v4.4 are populated
with links to 4.3? (And why the torrent files for v4.3 ia64 don't work?)
Now, instead of the symptom, I'll describe my actual problem.
Has anyone successfully installed CentOS (any flavor, although I

VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I
just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages,
SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer,
mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I
went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down
their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

were updates to install. I accepted that all, except sysreport as I
always seem to have problems installing. I rebooted, having set the
default run level to 3. I then got a red screen with an "illegal

I have used my CD to boot into rescue

Both Xen and VirtualBox On the Same Physical Host?
Hi all,
I have a Sun x2200 named Adra running OpenSolaris 2008.11 set up as a Dom0 per Levon''s instructions on this site. It hosts some production services and has been running nice and stable for a number of months now (with NetWare DomUs running GroupWise, believe it or not). The machine is pretty nicely speced out and there''s room for more virtualisation, so I was
