Large data sets with R (binding to hadoop available?)
Dear R community, I find R fantastic and use R whenever I can for my data analytic needs. Certain data sets, however, are so large that other tools seem to be needed to pre-process data such that it can be brought into R for further analysis. Questions I have for the many expert contributors on this list are: 1. How do others handle situations of large data sets (gigabytes, terabytes)

Replace brick of a dead node
Hi! Seeking pardon from the experts, but I have a basic usage question that I could not find a straightforward answer to. I have a two node cluster, with two bricks replicated, one on each node. Lets say one of the node dies and is unreachable. I want to be able to spin a new node and replace the dead node's brick to a location on the new node. The command 'gluster volume

Error in Configuring CTDB, Winbind and AD
Hello Samba Users, After going through a lot of hassles, i have ended up coming mentioned below samba configuration. But it is still far from a working stage. wbinfo -t, -u and -g works. But wbinfo -i works on few nodes but doesn't work on few resulting in error "Could not get info for user <username>" Strange part is that i could see these messages

Re: Petabytes on a budget - blog
Just thought I would let everybody know I saw one at a local ISP yesterday. They hadn''t started testing the metal had only arrived the day before and they where waiting for the drives to arrive. They had also changed the design to give it more network. I will try to find out more as the customer progresses..... >Interesting blog:

Gluster/RDMA
To Harry Mangalam about Gluster/RDMA: make sure these modules are loaded # modprobe -v rdma_ucm # modprobe -v ib_uverbs # modprobe -v ib_ucm To run the subnet manager # modprobe -v ib_umad Make sure libibverbs and (libmlx4 or libmthca) RPMs are installed. I don't understand why they appropriate modules aren't loaded automatically. Could put something in /etc/modprobe.d/ to make this

Redundant LAN routing possible?
I've been reading that it's possible to set up a system with multiple NIC to provide redundant internet connectivity such that it will switch to a secondary connection if the primary ISP fails. Is it possible in a similar way to setup redundant LAN routing? I read that it is possible to aggregate/bond multiple NIC to stackable switches that support link aggregation and redundancy. But if

Can Samba export 2TB+ filesystems?
Does Samba have any max filesytem limitations. In particular can both 2.2.8 and 3.0 support 2TB+ filesystems. For now, I am thinking of 6TB max, so I don't need to know about Petabytes or Exabytes. The other side of the question, is can Win9x, Win2K, etc. work with filesystems over 2 TB. If the above is in a FAQ somewhere, a url would be great. Greg -- Greg Freemyer

FS-corruption on ext3 with HTrees
Hi, I'm working with Prof. Zadok on versionfs, a stackable versioning file system. I face some problems with the unlink operation on ext3 with htree. On an unlink, I make a copy of the file (version/backup) and unlink the original file. But some files that have been unlinked are "linked back" to another file. For example, on deleting the file 'foo', the file itself is
