Help setting up external drive via Firewire
I got a WD 1TB My Book with eSATA/USB/Firewire400 connectivity to backup
data on a client Centos 5.1 machine.
USB 2.0 works fine out of the box but is rather slow, Nautilus predicts
about 1+ hour to fully backup just one day's worth of data or about 100GB.
So I was hoping Firewire would be faster, which is why we got the version
with all 3 interfaces to experiment with first.

Marvell Yukon 8056?
Greetings list-
I''ve got a server ''in the mail'' and I see now on the specsheet that it has Marvell Yukon 8056 NICs onboard. Since I cannot seem to find a HCL for Centos 5 or RHEL5 to help verify, I''d like to know if it works ''out of the box'' on CentOS 5.x or is there additional work to make it function (properly)?
My searching has revealed

There are a lot of posts there that I find helpful when doing web

Also, we specifically need some people to answer questions concerning

Hi,
Reading
http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30939&forum=37 I noticed a warning about an upcoming bugged update xorg-x11-server-utils-7.1-5.el5_6.1
I would advise everyone to add
exclude=xorg-x11-server-utils-7.1-5.el5_6.1
to their updates repo config.
Regards,
Leonard.

Hello,
I've written a couple of articles about CentOS on my personal blog that i'd like
to share.
As mentionned py pschaff on the CentOS 5 forum (
https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30474&forum=37 ),
there could be a need of an article explaining how to virtualize CentOS 5 in
HyperV.
As i wrote my articles in french, i'm willing to translate them so

Is every CentOS release supported for 7 years?
Hi,
I've read some posts in the forums which seems to indicate that not
every CentOS version is well supported. Is it possible to install
CentOS 5.5 on a server and only apply security updates for 7 years? Or
is the preferred way to upgrade to each minor version? Thanks in
advance!

Does anyone have any experience with with Netgear WG511v2 cards and

Review and maintenance of the JavaOnCentOS article.
Hello everyone!
In a CentOS forum thread[1], I was asked by forum member "AlanJBartlett"
if I would like to take on the care and feeding of the latter (section
3?) part of the "JavaOnCentOS" article.
Initially, I would like to correct the Sun JDK 1.6 part, which instructs
readers to download the wrong Sun JDK file (there are two, one .bin and
one rpm.bin) for the actual

rpm problem after upgrade
Hi,
I have upgraded Centos from 3.x to 4.3.
The upgrade apparently didn't go too bad. I had to do the upgrade
remotely, and I used as a base the post at
http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=382
I rebooted the server, and it works. But yum does not work anymore,
apparently due to some conflict between rpmlibs and selinux.
This is the error that I get:

I'm unable to get much past the "boot:" prompt in the installer. The
