shell script question
hi all, If I have a shell script on 5.1 that has 2 commands in the script... command1 command2 and command1 runs until it is kill'ed by some other process. Sometimes command2 runs and sometimes it doesnt (this is what it seems like). How can I be ensured that command2 will always run after command1 is killed? The script is not killed just command1. Thanks, jerry

Can't seem to setup remote access to doveadmI'm using
I?m running version 2.1.7 under Raspbian Wheezy (and have been for a number of years). I want to allow one of my other computers to remotely issue doveadm commands to my server but can?t seem to find the right way to add an inet listener to permit this. Using ?doveconf -a? I?ve found the default service definition for doveadm-server. So I copied that and added it to the dovecot configuration with

creating a mailbox via imap

Wouldn't that be dependent on how Dovecot auth worker verifies a user exist and is valid? Such as for one method, database queries. How would Dovecot know

Activerecord equivalent of the SQL "SUM()" function.
Search doesn''t seem to be working, so forgive me if I''m covering old ground here, but I''m having a difficult time figuring out how to implement a "SUM()" function using Active record. Obviously, I could just create a query, but I''d rather make it part of my active record object. Basically I have an object called "Report <

Better way of writing R code
Dear R forum, (Pl note this is not a finance problem) I have two data.frames as currency_df = data.frame(current_date = c("3/4/2013", "3/4/2013", "3/4/2013", "3/4/2013"), issue_date = c("27/11/2012", "9/12/2012", "14/01/2013", "28/02/2013"), maturity_date = c("27/04/2013", "3/5/2013",

Why are the arguments supplied for the command run through ssh interpreted by shell before they are passed to the command on the server side?

YALAQ - Yet Another LApply Question
Hello, Two lapply questions (system info and sample data below): 1) Why does the first form of command1 add the name of y _after_ the str() output rather than before as does the second (preferred) form? # command1 version1 invisible(lapply(ls(pattern='bn'), function(y) cat(y, "\n", str(get(y)), "\n") )) # command1 version2 (preferred output)

E-Mail Serving Options
Hi All, What are my e-mail serving options? I need to host POP, IMAP and SMTP. I must admit that non-windows e-mail hosting has always been a chore for me. I remember QMail and QPopper IIRC. -Jason

Help with backups
I've got a Redhat 5 server running Samba, and two dualboot CentOS 5 workstations. Until we get a better backup strategy, I'm backing up the workstations to the server via mounting a shared samba drive to /mnt. Trying tar cvf /mnt/samba_share/backup.tar /* eventually yields backing up /mnt, which produces an unwanted loop, including /mnt/samba_share I looked at tar with --exclude /mnt

2GB limit in Samba?
Hi. Is there such a limit to 2GB in samba 2.2.8a-1? I get a "File imit exceeded" when I try to tar or cp smth to a smbmount. On both machines I can successfully do dd if=/dev/zero and create a file of 3GB, I can also tar -cvf it but no cp to smb. RH8 if it matters...

Sparc?
My 12 year old wants to learn more about servers and has memorized a lot of commands like ls, chmod, du, etc. He wants to have his own domain and server on the web and I have enough Static IP's, so why not foster this interest. I have an old ultra sparc 5. Are there any CentOS versions that support Sparc? Or recommendations? I know OpenBSD does, but I am more versed in Solaris and versions

Running mount in a script.
I am running CentOS 4 and have the need to run "mount -t cifs ..." from within a perl or bash script as part of an application. The application does not run as root. I have been trying to do a chmod +s on a root owned script but that doesn't seem to work. I still get permission errors. I also took a look at sudo but that appears to require a user to periodically enter a password.

vignette compilation times
Dear All I am preparing a number of vignettes that require a very long time to process with Sweave. The longest one takes 10 hours. I love the weaver package! Is a package that includes such a computationally intensive vignette acceptable on CRAN? Are there any guidelines here? -- Robin K. S. CentOS 5.5 on a new Mac Mini? no CD Driver?
Hi All, I am attempting to install CentOS 5.5 64 bit on my new Mac Mini. I boot to the CD and when I get to selecting where I am installing from (local cd, hard disk, ftp, etc) I select Local CD and it cannot find a driver and wants me to manually specify or use a driver disk. I ave no idea what drive is in this system. Can anyone point me in the right direction? -Jason
