Suggested yum priorities settings for 3rd party repos
In the yum priorities page on the wiki Akemi Yagi suggests
http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities
[base], [addons], [updates], [extras] ... priority=1
[centosplus],[contrib] ... priority=2
Third Party Repos ... priority=N (where N is > 10 and
based on your preference)
If you have rpmforge, kbs, epel all set up at 10 then wouldn't
those also potentially overwrite

Xboard rpm for CentOS 4
Has anyone built an rpm for xboard for CentOS 4? I looked in the EPEL repo, KBS repo
and rpmforge but none exist. The KBS repo has gnuchess in testing but what good is
gnuchess without xboard? As usual the fedora SRPM for Fedora 6 and Fedora 9 cannot
build on CentOS 4- they might build on CentOS 6 but i have no time machine :).

Guidelines for CentOS Mailing List posts
Some people don't know how to conduct themselves on usenet
and mailing lists. Despite the mailing list guidelines
being crystal clear about no html posting and not top-posting
we have people still doing so. People still use text-readers to
access the mailing list so you could be denying access to these
people by flouting the mailing list guidelines.
This is an example of top-posting

Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) Repo
May want to check out the new Fedora-Extras-based EPEL repo. There will
be overlap with KBS repos (in fact they cite karan.org as an example of
rebuilding Fedora Extras packages for EL4), RPMforge, etc. so be wary as
of any other 3rd party repo. The Wiki page says "The EPEL repository is
not yet publicly available -- we are in the process of creation and
initial testing phase.";

Desktop Choice Centos 4/Centos 5 or Fedora 9
I have a choice of CentOS 4/5 and Fedora 9 on a laptop.
I have not use CentOS 5 on a desktop but have used
CentOS 4 and Fedora 9. I found the Fedora Gnome not
as appealing as the CentOS 4 clearlooks. Any opinions
from someone who has used CentOS 4/5 and Fedora?
I'm not a KDE fan so KDE users need not reply.

Vandaman.

Repo order - priority plugins
Guys, what is the best way of arranging the repos with regards to their priority? Any ideas, especially for all non base ones?
/etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo - priority = 1, 2
/etc/yum.repos.d/atrpms.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/kbs-extras.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/kbs-misc.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo
How would we position dags repo?

My GNU-CentOS Desktop
I took a lil trip and decided to bring my
rhel-converted-to-centos desktop with me. I have a few
screenshots at
http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j90/centosdesktop/
In addition to CentOS Base/Extras/Plus, I have kbs and
rpmforge repos. As you can see in one screenshot i
have yum utils and about 80 protected packages.
I've added Open-Office.org 2.0.1, Gnuchess, artwork
from Gnome and wine

Off course people are going to ask. In my opinion as long
as a topic is marked OT, it is preferable to one not marked
but one in which the OP has not even done basic research
on his problem.

Security Guide for CentOS/RHEL
Is there a step by step approach to securing CentOS 4X (or even RHEL 4X)? I don't mean the stuff in the docs/security guide but a working step by step guide? There used to be packages like rkhunter and tripwire but I don't know if the ones in rpmforge/kbs repo are up to date.
Thanks,
Josh.

Repository for debuginfo (CentOS 5.1)
It has been suggested (elsewhere) that, to track down the nautilus problem I
reported a while back, I need to install the nautilus debuginfo rpm.
However, my yum can't find it. The only repositories I have set up on my
machine are these:
CentOS-Base.repo
CentOS-Media.repo
kbs-CentOS-Extras.repo
mirrors-rpmforge
rpmforge.repo
Do I need another one for debuginfo rpms?
Thanks.

Which repositores?
Hello all
I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people
add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff.
I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet).
I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read
that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it
disabled? What about
