Maybe a dumb question, but....
Folks, I am totally ignorant about xen, and while I've been doing a little reading, I've not yet figured out if xen is running under CentOS or if CentOS is running under xen on this 5.2 version of CentOS. I do know that the whole system from the user standpoint is way slower than it was under 4.7. Heck, I can't even find much on what to do with xen, much less figure out how to

New installation woes
I've just installed CentOS 5.2 for the x86_64 on a SuperMicro X6DA8-G board with two 250g SATA drives configured in the bios as a raid 1 array. After getting the base installed, I've tried to yum update the system and I wind up with these errors.... --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient.so.14(libmysqlclient_14)(64bit) is needed by package

Guidelines for CentOS Mailing List posts
Some people don't know how to conduct themselves on usenet and mailing lists. Despite the mailing list guidelines being crystal clear about no html posting and not top-posting we have people still doing so. People still use text-readers to access the mailing list so you could be denying access to these people by flouting the mailing list guidelines. This is an example of top-posting

Suggested yum priorities settings for 3rd party repos
In the yum priorities page on the wiki Akemi Yagi suggests http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities [base], [addons], [updates], [extras] ... priority=1 [centosplus],[contrib] ... priority=2 Third Party Repos ... priority=N (where N is > 10 and based on your preference) If you have rpmforge, kbs, epel all set up at 10 then wouldn't those also potentially overwrite

Irritant
Hi again, I've got a nagging irritant with either putty or the man pages, or perhaps my setup. If I use putty to log into my server and request any man page, it returns the page, but really important stuff like keywords are blank. Is this perhaps caused by the wrong terminal setting in putty or is there something with Centos man pages that cause this to happen? Thanks again, Sam

CentOS 5.2
If I read correctly - the 5.2 release will have xen 3.0 Does that mean I will be able to run vista as guest operating system? I seem to remember reading that vista could be run under xen 3.0 I have found instructions for installing XP under xen 3.0 in Debian, so I'm hoping it vista on CentOS 5.2 will also be possible ?? There's only a small handful of apps I need/want - but they

Help!
Folks, I have a bit of a problem and can't seem to figure out what is getting broken or why. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get clamav or clamav-milter to install and permit yum update to continue. What is happening is this: I yum install the clamav package, but when I try to do an update on the system, it constantly returns with an error of a Missing Dependency for clamd

Yum Issue.. Installing Older Package Version
Hello fellow CentOS'ers- I'm trying to install a package from a not-to-be-named repository (privately operated for some proprietary software). They currently have a package I need but offer multiple versions. However, if I simply 'yum install packagename' it defaults to pulling down the most recent package. I would like to pull down the older version of the package but I'm

Missing grub functionality on CentOS 5
There's grub 0.97 on CentOS 5. The manual at http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/index.html says it is for 0.97. However, it mentions for instance a program grub-set-default that is not present in grub-0.97-13.2. It also mentions grub.conf options savedefault and fallback. Are these available in the CentOS grub? I tried with savedefault and it does not create a

A little more info
I forgot to mention this is an x86_64 machine. Sometime somewhere back several months ago, the centos plus kernel got installed, and I didn't notice it until just recently. It's not in use. I understand there are some i386 packages already installed, and at one point, I thought I had set yum up to only pull down the x8_64 packages, but I suppose something got changed in the

Sensors-applet-0.2.2
List, I grabbed the sensors-applet file, and assumed there would be some note about how to execute it or add it to the panel. Nada.. in the README, there is an indication of ./configure --prefix=/usr and that's it. From what I read on a web page about it, and the screenshots, there should be something to configure the values. Heck, I can't even find the file now that its

Hiding Files in Samba
I may need a strong shot of coffee but I though putting "hide files = /~*/" as follows in the samba config file would hide files with a tilde. [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes hide files = /~*/ Unfortunately after restarting the server the files are still visible. Regards, Vandaman.

CentOS 4 update backlog
There are security updates upstream for CentOS (4 and 5) and it looks like the CentOS 5 ones have been rebuilt and rolled out. How come the CentOS 4 branch lags behind, or are the CentOS 5 devs different from the CentOS 4 devs? If more volunteers are needed I'm sure assistance could be offered by the CentOS community. Regards, Vandaman.

Missing CentOS 4.7 update?
Unless I'm mistaken, does it look like Centos 4.7 is missing an update released on December 3rd 2008? Upstream details :- http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0989.html An updated tmpwatch package that fixes various bugs is now available. The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time.
