Backing up a running KVM guest
Hello This new HowTo explains how to backup a VM without powering it down. It's specifically aimed at KVM although it may work with any virtualization software that uses Linux as the host. Please review it and let me know what you think, particularly if you are already doing something similar yourself, or would like to. Do you have answers to any of the questions in the

/usr/bin/id behavior since CentOS 5.2 upgrade
Hi list, Since the upgrade to 5.2, when I log into my server with a ldap account I have these 2 errors messages: -bash: [: =: unary operator expected -bash: [: -le: unary operator expected After investigation, the trouble come from two scripts in /etc/profile.d: /etc/profile.d/krb5-workstation.sh /etc/profile.d/vim.sh The problem is with the test where the command "id" is involved,

apache mod_authnz_ldap: multiple servers syntaxes
Hello, I'm trying this here first before moving to the apache list. Maybe someone of you use mod_authnz_ldap with multiple ldap servers declaration for redundancy. With one server declared it is working. Here is what I've tried for adding another one (space separated as read in the apache's doc) : .... AuthLDAPURL

Anyone using pam_ldap ? need clarifications
Hi list, I'm using a SSH gateway where our users are authenticated against an openldap server. It's working great and the users can also change their password with the 'passwd' command. My problem is that recently I've tested our users's password for weak entries (with john the ripper) and found that all the password changed with 'passwd' and thus pam_ldap where

How to fit all points into plot?
Hi, I have a problem when I want to add new points (or a new line) to the graph. Some points (or parts of the line) are not shown on the graph because they lie beyond the scale of the axis. Is there a way to overcome this so all points (or the entire line) are shown on the graph? Here's an example of my problem: colors = c("red", "blue") plot(x=rnorm(100,0,1),

about Update Road and no IDLE in CAPABILITY
Hi list, I'm in the path of moving from courier-imap to dovecot and testing it since 1.2-rc3. So far it is very promising. Thank you for your amazing work. So my first question is: what is the recommended update road ? For now, I first "managesieve patch"/compile the source, go on to the old source folder and do a "make uninstall", switch back to the new source folder

Several files's checksum change without reason
Hi list, I'm a bit worried here. On a server, Centos 4.3 fully-patched SELinux activated, Osiris (a decentralized scanner for files changes on distant servers) signaled me several changes on files who were not (at first sight) affected by a recent update (the list is below). Is there a logic explanation for those changes to happen ? The "rpm -Va" command does not output md5sum

HTTP as a source for files
Hi all, I''ve been looking into having Puppet deploy some larger files and I''m noticing that it ties up puppetmasters quite a bit and can often result in a timeout if the file is too large. Before I submit a feature request for a http method for file sources, I would throw it out to the group and see if anyone had any thoughts on it. Possible benefits of a HTTP source could be

testing fts-solr?
hi everyone, However, how can I verify that solr is working properly? Background: - I'm trying to setup 2.1 with fts_solr and eventually test maildir/mdbox. - I used the following webpage as reference to setup solr: http://www.roessner-network-solutions.com/2012/02/19/full-text-search-with-solr-and-dovecot-on-ubuntu-10-04/ I'm looking at /var/log/tomcat6/catalina.out file, but see

Nouveau on GeForce 7950GTX (NV49)
Hi everyone, I just finished installing the current git of the nouveau driver for my NV49 based 7950GTX. I attempted this because I've been continually frustrated by the constantly degrading 2D performance of X under the nvidia and nv drivers. Webpages that do any kind of compositing in Mozilla will burn CPU all day long. I'm happy to say that I'm writing because I didn't have

Thinking about switching from courier-imap to Dovecot: 2 simple questions
Hi, I'm using RHEL4 and since the dovecot RPM is present in the main repository, I'm thinking about switching from courier-imap (with whom I've got trouble to update) to Dovecot. Here are two questions about Dovecot (google didn't answer me): 1. Is it possible for dovecot to use the bind mecanism against ldap for authentification purpose. My main concern is to avoid the

Rescan harddisk size without rebooting
Hi list, I have a SAN attached to a CentOS 4.2 server. I have expanded the size of the virtual disk within the SAN (by adding a new HD to the disk pool) and need CentOS to see the new size (CentOS see it as /dev/sdb). I'm using LVM. Do you know a method for the Volume Group to see that one of its harddisk is now bigger, without rebooting (it's not a problem with a reboot but since

Dovecot LDA and address extensions - folders flood
Hi list, This post is slightly OT, I hope no one will take offense. I was following the wiki on using dovecot LDA with postfix and implemented, for our future mail server, the address extensions mechanism: an email sent to "validUser+foldername at mydomain.com" will have dovecot-lda automagically create and subscribe the "foldername" folder. With some basic scripting I was
