[HOW-TO]Nvidia latest graphic drivers for ubuntu users
Ubuntu distro has in its repositories the 180.11 driver version for nvidia based cards, which are not the ones you get by default with the install.
Its highly recommended to upgrade to 180.11 using the following pain-free method :
Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180
Since feb 25th nvidia has released an updated version 180.35 [LINK]

Freeze when swithing vt
Hello. I am running 0.3.6 compiz under Fedora Core 6 and nvidia 1.0-9631
binary driver. I have noticed that switching to console with ctrl-alt-f1
and then back to x with ctrl-alt-f7 locks up the system with a black
screen more or less (sometimes the lockup is complete, sometimes the
cursor moves and it is possible to switch back to console), A user on

Forwarded USB brokenness
Hi,
I''ve set up a domU with video card access per the instructions at
<http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68703>; video is
working quite nicely. However, I''m having some trouble getting the
USB keyboard and mouse to work.
I have a motherboard with onboard USB 2.0, and a USB 1.1 PCI card.
The motherboard USB uses several PCI addresses. If I

R and F9
Hi all,
Being the glutton for self-inflicted punishment that I am, I did a clean
install of F9 yesterday. :-)
As it relates to R:
1. Building R from SVN:
R version 2.7.0 Patched (2008-05-12 r45683)
It builds and passes make check all without issue. F9 is using:
gcc (GCC) 4.3.0 20080428 (Red Hat 4.3.0-8)
2. As was noted with F8, the lack of the Java-JavaScript bridge in the

Syncing to vblank for interlaced video modes
Hello,
I'll start by applauding your efforts to make an open source driver for nv hardware. I imagine it is a very difficult task trying to reverse engineer hardware and produce something useful and featureful.
I wish to make a change to the nouveau source. You might say I am considering becoming a nouveau developer. I am one of those crazy nutters who connects my nvidia card directly to

Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
What about the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard? It has 7 SATA ports,
supports ECC memory, socket AM2, generally looks very attractive for
my home storage server. Except that it, and the nvidia nForce 570-SLI
it''s built on, don''t seem to be on the HCL. I''m hoping that''s just
"yet", not reported yet. Anybody run Solaris on it? Or at least on

drbd strategy
I have an existing in-production LAMP server running Centos 5.1. It uses
physical partitions on top of hardware RAID1, having / /home /var and /boot
on separate partitions.
We have a near-identical system I am thinking of bringing in as a
DRBD/Heartbeat companion. One solution may be to use csync2

2.6.30.1 dom0 Xen patches
I''ve been trying for several days to get a xen dom0 booting as
described on Boris Derzhavets blog.
I have been able to boot Jeremy Fitzhardinge''s pv_ops kernel under
xen, but my X server wouldn''t start so I''ve been trying to get Andrew
Lyon''s rebased opensuse patches to work.
I have asked for help in the freenode ##xen channel but they

SOLVED: World of Warcraft d3d crash and rendring problems
Hi wine people,
with some help from the Nvidia forum I managed to solve a problem with World of Warcraft 4.x.x that I suspect is directX / Wine related:
Enabling -d3d9 and -d3d11 would cause the below mentioned problem with Wine 1.2.2, while it would crash World of Warcraft program under Wine 1.3.15 (Ubuntu 11.04 debs), while OpenGL runs perfectly (30-60 fps with all opengl settings on ultra):

Re: Over 4GB RAM issue
The fix in that bug will work better than without, but games will still crash occasionally.
BTW the bug will still occur no matter how much physical RAM you have, it only applies to virtual memory. There was a mmap patch posted a month or so back that is supposed to fix the issue. But games down to a crawl on 64-bit systems with 4GB ram or greater, and the patch simply doesn't work otherwise. Not

Nvidia security vulnerability (CVE-2012-0946)
Not strictly a CentOS issue, but users of the Nvidia drivers should be
aware of this. See their announcement[1] for details. Users of the the
manufacturer's driver, or the ELRepo kmod-nvidia driver[2] should update
ASAP to the new version.

firefox is incredibly unstable
does anyone else have major probs with Firefox as installed on CentOS5?
ever since the RPM for FF3 came out it has been crashing daily. Usually when I
use Save As... or Browse... or anything else that brings up the Gnome file
picker. After the crash I re-start then the file picker works for a while.
Sometimes it just takes scrolling or click+drag an image or some other random
action. BANG

memorial day kernel panic
I have a simple Tyan server with RAID1 on a 3ware 7002 that has been running
updated Centos 5.1 for almost 3 weeks with no problem, it runs low-traffic
Apache/PHP/mySQL and vsftpd sites exclusively - last night it crashed. The
console showed something about a process named 'php' and gave a process id
with the panic message, but that's all I can remember. Hard-rebooted and all

Has anyone successfully integrated (embedded) vbulletin into a rails
app? I would be curious to see if/how this worked.
RForum still seems quite beta so I am looking for something a little
more tried and true.

MCP51 what is the network module name
I have a new biostar motherboard with nvidia chipset.
The lspci says MCP51 ethernet. The module was not detected although
for FC4 installs it says it works.
What is the network module name for the MCP51 driver so that I can
try loading it manually.
CentOS 4.2
Thanks,

qemu-kvm segfaults on starting guests
I have a Centos 5.5 on an AMD 64 system (Athlon II x2 250).
I caught up on updates today, including
-- kernel 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5
-- glibc 2.5-49.el5_5.5.i686
I have several guests that were working before the update, but now none of
them will boot.
With each attempt I get a message in /var/log/messages:
-- kernel: qemu-kvm[xx]: segfault at 000000379fc0da11 rip 00002b9f2732283f

OK? Which is still OK. Are you using a v3.4 kernel
