unix password sync not working
Hi, I have a samba server configured with SECURITY=USER and am having trouble getting the UNIX PASSWORD SYNC to work. When I use smbpasswd to change a samba user password, everything goes well and the samba password is changed but the unix password is not changed. Per the manuals, samba trys to change the unix password first and if it fails, it will NOT change the samba password. However, the

nfsv4-acls for cifs and nfsv4
hi there - is it possible to share a directory via samba and (kernel-)nfsv4 in parallel and make samba use (ie.: read, write and enforce) nfsv4 acls to implement winnt-acls? i know that using nfs3 and posix acls is working halfway okay, but couldn't find anything useful for nfsv4 and the associated acls - sorry if i missed something obvious. i played around with the nfs4acl_xattr and

Samba to share NFSv4 + ACL mounted filesystems on NetApp storage
Hi, We are running into a problem with a Samba setup and would like to know if a current fix or workaround is at all possible. Our setup is a NetApp filer serving NFS v4 that is mounted by Solaris and Linux servers. On those servers we are using Samba to create shares of those NFSv4 mounted filesystems. We are migrating to this NFSv4 setup from an existing Solaris NFSv3+Posix ACL setup that also

Samba server with NFSV4/kerberos
Hello, I am searching for a solution that I thought should be kind of standard, but until now I was not successful finding anything. Here is the problem: At our site we offer windows and linux, most servers (eg file, samba, web) are linux based. User data is stored on NFS file servers. Windows systems are part of a Windows domain with an ADS domain controller. At the moment the linux samba

Suddenly wine has a problem
Wine has been working perfectly over the last few months, and suddenly today I seem to be having this problem when I have not modified anything since the last time I sued wine. I should also point out, I have made no configuration changes to wine to cause this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix the problem. Error while compliling
Hi, Please help me resolve this problem. While compiling samba-1.9.18p8, I got this message: cc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6 make: *** [smbpass.o] Error 1 I have re-edited the Makefile, and recompiled several times. Each time I got the same error message, at exactly this same spot. Is this a problem with my gcc compiler? which the message seems to imply. But I have

This is broken (and insecure) behaviour.
We are seeing erratic behaviour from Samba for connecting Unix drives to an NT terminal Server. Samba version 2.0.6 Solaris 2.6 NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition with service pack 4 running WinCenter NIS Logon Utility. The NT server is not part of a domain and uses the WinCenter Logon Utility to authenticate username and passwords from my Unix NIS server. Samba is set up for server level

Signal 6
The answer is on the Slackware CD Rom - read /contrib/gcc2721.README. Apparently it's a bug wih this version of gcc, and the previous version is on the CD as a work-around. NFSv4 delegation
hi all, i'm managing a large installation of a dovecot cluster in director + NFS backend architecture and we are moving from NFSv3 to NFSv4. Our NFS server is a Netapp in clustered mode and reading technical specs of NFSv4 delegation feature it seems that enabling delegation in this type of dovecot architecture should bring great benefits: only one backend server access a specific mailbox at a

new user question
Hi all, I have installed samba on both BSDI 3.1 and Linux. I have been having trouble compiling on linux so I got a binary form and installed it. So far all seems to work except the password keeps getting rejected when trying to map a drive. It is happening in both the linux version and BSDI. I am loging into windows with the same user/pass as my unix account and am trying to map a drive it

[Fwd: Winbind under 3.0
I posted this plea for help last week, but received no responses, so I figured I'd re-send. Since posting this message I upgraded to 3.0 stable using the package posted on the samba.org site, and the behavior remains the same. I should also mention, if I try smbclient -U guest and enter an empty password, I can successfully get a browse list fromt the server. Is there an increased
