Lockup using stock r8169 on 4.8 in gigabit mode during heavy transfer on lan
I have no output in the logs, but /etc/init.d/network restart fixes the issue. I am rsync/scp (10GB) data from one 100MB Full duplex host to an ASUS M3A78-EM (RTL8111B/C). It locks up around the 1.5GB Tx mark. If I ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 100 duplex full it does not happen again. Ideas? -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -

OT: NIC
Folks, I'm trying to add a network interface card to my SUSE 9.3 box, and I'm not having much luck with a US Robotics version. What manufacturer do any of you use in your machines--either 10/100MB or GigE NIC? Backup
We have a RHEL2 server that has had one of the drives in the raid array fail. I would like to do a full backup of the system before we replace the raided drive, in case the second drive decides to die during the procedure. What is the recommended way to back up a linux system? I was thinking of doing a snapshot, but the system is ext3 with no LVM. It has been suggested to hook up a usb

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails
Hi, When trying to copy 5000+ files from a client PC to a Samba server I have the following problem. Halfway during the operation it hangs on always the same file. Windows XP (SP1) gives: Unable to copy file [filename]. Specified network name is no longer available. (I had to translate this from Dutch, so it is not the exact message). When checking with smbstatus I get this:

That's problem. AHCI is the standard for SATA, running modern SATA drives, especially SSD require the AHCI command structure. Running modern SATA drives in IDE (ATA) mode is not readily supported. -Jason -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - - - Jason Pyeron PD Inc.

FreeBSD 6.1 OpenSSH broken
Hi, I know this subject is better suited to the freebsd mailing list but I send it here bcoz this mail is further to the mail I sent a couple of weeks ago about weird DH problems with FreeBSD OpenSSH. It turned out that reinstalling OpenSSL solved the issue. For those of you working on FreeBSD this is the solution. # cd /usr/ports/security/openssl #make deinstall #make reinstall I will

Trying to 'Upgrade' to Samba 3.0 on RedHat Enterprise 3.0
Here's my situation: I currently have Samba (v. 2.2.7) running on RedHat 7.3, configured as a Domain Controller. Users are logging into the domain and everything is working fine. I must 'upgrade' to RedHat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0. I say 'upgrade', but what I actually have to do is a complete OS install, NOT an upgrade (there is no upgrade path to RHEL3.0 from anything
