Went with OpenDNS for now
A few weeks ago I asked about firewalls and family filters. Lanny Marcus, I believe, suggested OpenDNS. Just wanted to thank him (and everyone here) for their suggestions. Eventually I would like to learn about firewalls, but I don't really want to run another machine at this time. OpenDNS is trivial to set up on the router and looks to be just about exactly what I wanted. Thanks. Sorry to

OT: Firefox SSL error on Linux, Firefox OK on Windows - same web site
Using CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) on my Desktop with Mozilla Firefox 3.0.12. With one web site (LinkShare) I am getting an SSL error, after clicking to get a more advanced report I do not get that error, using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.13 on M$ Windows and I get the report OK on Windows. It appears, when using Firefox on Linux, that it is not ending up on the LinkShare web site and Firefox is giving me the

Web Filter
I have a location using a CentOS 5 server that's multihomed running Asterisk and iptables for internal web access. Recently some sales people got busted surfing some explicit content so the owner wants something in there to block this. I had heard of Dans Guardian and am reading about what's involved here but just wanted an opinion on what's the best solution for this. NTLM silent

sFTP (client) RPM for CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) and/or putty-tools
I installed gFTP but apparently it does not handle the sFTP protocol. I also installed the FireFTP Add On for the Firefox browser, but when I tried to connect to the server, it says that I need putty-tools. I have the rpmforge and epel repositories configured but yum did not find putty-tools. Is there an RPM for a client program for gFTP or putty-tools? If so, in which repository? TIA! 1443

CentOS or other Linux Internet Router/Gateway
Hi Everyone, I've got kids who are growing older and I want to build a Linux box to filter Internet access. I've got six computers on the Internet, plus the laptops -- most run Windows. I'm not sure if it's called a router or gateway or...? I don't mind doing the leg work, I just don't know where to start. I'm pretty sure I'm *not* looking for a web server (though

DNS update system-config-network GUI
Box is fully updated CentOS 5.5 (32 bit). DHCP is from the ADSL modem 192.168.1.1. After I update the DNS settings and restart the network, the DNS changes do not hold. I have tried using this GUI, as a regular user, after giving the root password, and, also, logged in as the root user. When I begin, the Primary DNS is shown as 192.168.1.1 the IP of the ADSL modem. I move that IP to the Tertiary

Security advice, please
My LAN is behind a Netgear router, which does NAT. On the CentOS server I have fail2ban running. This morning my router reported 3 different IPs attempting to send UDP packets to port 38950, Since each address is only seen 4-5 times, I presume that fail2ban took over after that. GRC reports that ports are stealthed (port 143 was open, but is now closed), but then: Unsolicited Packets:

Failing to get pxechain.com working, SYSLINUX 3.86.
To start, I know I need to upgrade SYSLINUX, but since we are using the CMenu's it's not that easy of an upgrade. I have been (slowly) working on a new iPXE/pxelinux 4.04 install that I am migrating to. However, I have an interesting problem. Using any of the examples I have seen, I can not make pxechain.com work. "pxechain.com ::/path/pxelinux.0" "pxechain.com

iPod Touch/iPhone VPNs with CentOS.
I am looking at options for VPN connections from iPhones and iPod Touches to CentOS systems. We use OpenVPN for connections with Windows, Mac OS X, and other Linux systems, but there don't appear to be any OpenVPN clients for iPhones (presumably because there are no tun/tap interfaces available yet). My experiences getting IPsec running on CentOS systems with OpenVPN have not been pretty.

Recover rpm DB corrupted by disk failure?
Over the weekend my workstation (still on CentOS 3) started showing SMART errors, so we shut it down and moved everything onto a new drive. On reboot, the RPM database reports as corrupted and "rpm --rebuilddb" segmentation faults. Is there any reasonable way to recover from this, short of a complete reinstall? The machine is otherwise up though it''s quite likely some files

IPCop updates, Evolution Calendar rarely crashes now
I know a lot of you are using IPCop where you work. They have three (3) updates posted, during the past two (2) days. The last one, I'm getting an error, when I try to Download it, and I will report that to the IPCop list or bugzilla after I send this message. "No such file or directory http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ipcop/ipcop-1.4.21-update.i386.tgz.gpg?download" The problem I

centos 5.8 libvirt disk options
I am attempting to use libvirtd/kvm on CentOS 5.latest to migrate a SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a VM from the old VMware server. I have converted the multiple vmdk disk files to a single file, then used qemu-img convert to create files for libvirtd, both qcow2 and raw formats. After many attempts to get this working I'm up against what appears to be a brick wall. + The VMware VMs are using

good small registrar?
Greetings, What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression. But I have no clue who else to go with. -Eugene -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
