how to debug windows not starting
Hi all
I have a CentOS 5.1 x64 server, running Xen version 3.1.0-53.1.21.el5 &
Windows 2003 VM.
After doing a software update in Windows (via Remote Desktop), I
rebooted windows, but it never came back up. So, I logged into the
server via SSH, and destoyed the VM, and recrated it. Yet it doesn''t
boot up ( I can''t connect to it via RDP).
So, how do I debug it to see

is it possible to login to a switch via RS232 / serial port from the shell?
Hi all
I have a problem switch in our data centre, which is connected to a
linux server via a serial cable. I know I can / could access the switch
from my Windows PC back at the office, using hyperterm, but trying to
access it using minicom just doesn't seem to work.
I have changed the comms in minincom to use /dev/tty0 & the baud rate to
9600, yet I can't seem to connect with

unable to access Linux HVM via xm console - Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory
Hi all
I''m running CentOS 5.1 x64 + Xen 3.0 & I have setup a CentOS 5.1 x64
domU as a HMV. For the setup I used VNC, but I would prefer to be able
to access it via "xm console cPanel" via SSH directly.
Here''s the output cPanel HVM:

Do I need portmap, haldeamon & xfs running on dom0?
Hi all
I have a CentOS 5.1 server running Xen and recently installed

On a daily basis I''m getting an email about portmap. haldeamon and xfs

how do I find out which nameserver returns a DNS query?
Hi all
If I do a "dig mydomain.co.za" from a Linux server, how do I know which
DNS nameserver returns the queries?
I seem to have a faulty DNS server, but can't see which one, so I want
to find out which nameserver (if there's 4 - ns1.myserver, ns2.myserver,
ns3.myserver & ns4.myserver) returns the queries?

how to downgrade from CentOS 5.2 to CentOS 5.1?
I've run into some trouble with a new cPanel VPS, and noticed that it's
running CentOS by default, installed via the CentOS http server.
My question is, how do I downgrade CentOS to 5.1?

can I use CentOS as a antivirus / spam filter / HTTP AV gateway?
Hi all
I've been thinking about using CentOS on a Dell R200 server and turn it
into a firewall / network monitor / traffic shaper in our datacentre,
instead of using a dedicated firewall device.
One of the devices that I have been looking at, with my limited budget,
is the D-Link DFL 860 -

It provides AV, SPI, VPN, DOS, P2P, etc

how do I create a custom CD from an existing CD?
Hi all
This may sound funny, but I can't get onto any websites right now, so I
can't even google. I want to customize the contents of my CentOS 5.1 x64
CD, and re-create the ISO to write to CD again and install on a server.
I know it's got something todo with mkisofs, but I'm not 100% sure what
the commands should look like
Can someone please give me a sample of the whole

looking for kernel sources
Hi all
I'm looking for the linux source files for CentOS 5.1 2.6.18-53.el5. To
install VirtualBox, I apparently need the kernel sources, and even after
installing kernel-devel & kernel-headers via yum I still get an error
saying I need the kernel-sources

Re: unable to access Linux HVM via xm console - Couldnot read tty from store: No such file or directory
HVM = fully virtualized. The question is, why are you using fully virtualized domUs? Why not paravirtualized (PV)?

can't get Tomcat5 to work on centos 5.1, how do I get it to work?
Hi all
A client of ours wants Tomcat 5 to be installed on a CentOS 5 server, I
naturally just ran "yum -y install tomcat5 tomcat5-webapps
tomcat5-admin-webapps" which installed it without any errors. Then I
typed in service tomcat5 start, and tries to access it as such "lynx
http://localhost:8080/" but keep on getting an error "connection refused"

preferred software RAID 10?
Hi all
I'm looking at setting up software RAID 10, using CentOS 5.1 x64 - what
is the best way todo this?
I'm reading some sources on the internet, and get a lot of different
"suggestions"
1 suggestion says to boot up with a Live CD like Knoppix or
SystemRescueCD, setup the RAID 10 partitions, and then install Linux
from there.
2. Another is to setup a small RAID 1 on the

question about network repositories
Hi
I'm thinking about setting up a local / LAN respository for my CentOS,
and probably other (Fedora Core) disto's, but have never done it before,
so here's some questions:
If I setup a repository, can it hold different distro's / architectures
& versions? Say for example, CentOS 4 (i386 & x64), CentOS 5.0 & 5.1
(i386 & x64) - will each one have it's own
