assigning "best" gateway and routing ---- Re: CentOS Digest, Vol 41, Issue 14
Hi,
Regarding the discussion of gateways,
Can the Vyatta routing software and/or hardware appliance solution help?
(The software is open source and available.)

Internet Satellite connection configuration on linux
hi all. here in Lebanon,Beriut we are allowed only to use satellite for
downlink only. uplink is made through a router connected to public land
lines. The satellite card is a penta card. i want to distribute Internet
connection to customers.
such a connection i want to do on linux. but what hinders me is the
configuration which i dont know how to do.
so please , some one tell me how to

Multiple Uplinks with the same gateway ip?!
Hi folks,
i spent my whole day trying to set up my linux router using load
balancing with multiple uplinks. I mainly focused on the nano howto, but
somewhere I have a big mistake within my head.
Basically the load-balancing is working, but not on a per-connection
basis - just on a per packet basis. Practically this is not usable of
course <g>
But as far as I understood it should work..

high performance open source DHCP solution?
The free DHCP solution, ISC, seems to be having scaling issues (i.e.
handling only about 200 DHCPDISCOVER and 20 DHCPRENEW requests), and I
was wondering if anyone had any open source suggestions of solutions
that could scale much better?
(Ideally, I could find a free version of a solution like Nominum, but
I know that's asking for much.)
Anyone have any suggestions?

Multiple gateways
Hello,
Since I could not figure out my previous problem, let me ask in a different way.
I have 3 networks inside my LAN. They are 172.16.55.0/24 ,
172.16.56.0/24 and 172.16.57.0/24 respectively. They all use eth0 as
an alias.
I also have 2 uplinks to different ISPs. One of them is leased line
and the other one is ADSL.
One of my uplink is 81.8.120.18/30 with gateway 81.8.120.17 on eth1
and the

latency
hi,
I am just about to try (next week) some streaming to Icecast2 over a
satellite uplink in a remote location. I was wondering if anyone has tried
this and if there are any issues that I shoudl be prepared for. One issue
I am wary of is the possible role latency will play in this system.
Any pointers on streaming over high latency or satellite internet
connections most appreciated!

dynamic menus in dialplan
I have an application that needs to vary the menu choices available based
upon the availability of an external resource at a given time. What I have
in mind is a system that can uplink a user to one of many different
satellites. Due to the nature of orbital mechanics a satellite may be out
of range at any given time. I only want to present a menu of available
satellites. I can query an

Those CC&Rs may very well be legally void and unenforceable.

two gateways on one PC ?
Hi,
i added second nic to my server
I have these two uplinks:
My main uplink is 195.XXX.XXX.XXX
My secondary is 83.XXX.XXX.XXX
When I add the secondary NIC, CentOS automatically sets default gw to
83.XXX.XXX.1 and deletes the gateway from 195.XXX.XXX.1
How can I set it that CentOs uses the gateway 195.XXX.XXX.1 as default
gateway. When I set this manually with route, CentOS changes my

[Bridge] help setting up a linux bridge with spanning tree to allow multiple vlans accross multiple uplinks
For easy reading: http://www.karthaus.nl/r/
Hi,
We used to have 1 single ip range (1.1.1.0/24) that had one uplink to a =
switch of the colocation provider.
Recently we got a second range 2.2.2.0/24 and a redundant uplink =
directly on two routers. But our switch does not have spanning tree =
protocol support so we cannot use them redundantly.
We have set up the switch to have a vlan for both

multilink/multiprovider load balancing
Lately I''ve been entertaining the idea of setting up a neighborhood
network (wireless and possibly some wired). I have a few neighbors
who subscribe to your typical consumer grade broadband connection
(e.g. Comcast cable or Verizon DSL) and a number of neighbors with no
connectivity or are still stuck on dial-up. Currently I''m sharing my
connection with my nearest neighbor but

Traffic Shaping for DVB gateway
Hello all,
I am providing broadband service through DVB circuit.
I have 4KB uplink and 32KB downlink. I want to share
32KB downlink bandwidth among 192.168.0.0/24 (20 users
in this subnet i.e 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.22)subnet
where each user will get 2KB to 6KB bandwidth. And
from 4KB uplink bandwidth each users will get only 1KB
to 2KB bandwidth.

How to add uplink in ESXi virtual switch
Hi,
I have an ESXi server, on top of it I have created one VM whose IP address
is 192.168.79.1.
I want to connect to the VM on ESXi server from my host machine but I am
not able to do it.
I have created a network "networkforSC" and I have pasted my xml file
content below but I am not able to add any uplink (how to add it?) .
Below is the xml file of my node as well as the network which

ICMP time exceeded in-transit sent from wrong interface
Hi,
I''ve got a rather confusing problem.
My linux router box has several internet uplinks of various kinds
(pppoe, ippp, ethernet). These uplinks are used by a tunnel to another
location.
It kinda looks like this:
eth0 - internet uplink
eth1 - LAN
tun0 - tunnel device
ppp0 - another internet uplink
...
Routing is setup with iproute2 in a way that pakets with a source IP

How to do network emulation on incoming traffic?
I''m trying to simulate a satellite link to a Linux server to test
application performance. I haven''t used any of the tc stuff before,
but I blandly assured people it would be "easy" to set up a simulated
long thin pipe on a spare network interface.
However, now that I''m exploring, it''s proving quite difficult.
Let me start with the general question

DHCP assigned gateway in /etc/shorewall/providers?
Is there a way to specify a variable for the gateway in
/etc/shorewall/providers? I have in my scenario:
eth0 dsl (static IP)
eth1 cable (dhcp assigned IP)
eth2 lan1
Is it possible to specify the gateway as a variable based on the current
DHCP lease (like $eth0_gw)? I''m following the documentation at
http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_and_Routing.html.

tinc works well using Tor v3 onions, with MPTCP link aggregation
tinc hosts listen for connections to Tor v3 onion services, and they connect to peers using Tor SocksPorts. MPTCP aggregates full-mesh connections between hosts. For Internet hosts with well-peered gigabit uplinks, this permits throughput among peers at 30-50 Mbps for multiple streams, vs ~10 Mbps at most for individual connections.

call quality monitoring
I need to debug a call quality issue with remote users on the other
end of a satellite link. The symptoms are: we here on the Internet
side can hear them just fine. On their end, things work sorta OK most
times, but they often suffer from severe dropouts and digital
warbling, both of which I attribute to them missing packets. Often
times they can't make out a word we are saying while we can

multiple uplinks example script
Hi!
I had two uplinks till today. We stopped one of them today, so i thought
i could share my experience. (it is maybe useful for somebody)
I hadn''t managed to configure it using a LARTC howto, but the Nano-howto
(http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/nano.txt) and julian''s kernel patches.
I had some problems with icq connections, because it is a two step
connection (It is just theory).
