USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via
the lp0 port.
I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just
fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's
instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base
driver without the CUPS installation did not work.
Every so often, which actually appears to be

Printing graphics on CentOS 5.3
I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to report that the problem I
have been having on CentOS since I first started using it, back in
4.4, of having all images (graphics) print out from the image viewer
as all-black pages appears to be gone!
I just printed 13 graphics from the image viewer directly to my laser
printer, and they're all excellent.
I suppose it could be that I'm using a

Problems with Intel Netport Printserver and Samba
Running RH6.0 I am able to print just fine from linux, the problem now is
getting smb printing working. I am using an Intel Netport Express PRO/100
printserver. Previous to my upgrade from RH5.2 when I had the printer
directly connected to the samba server, I was able to print just fine from
the windows client machines (not using the raw method)
My /etc/printcap is as follows

Can't print PDFs or PSs in CentOS 5.0
For some reason, when I try to print any graphic PDF (or a PS file made
from said graphic), it kills my Minolta 1100 laser printer, and I have
to cancel the job, disable the printer and turn the printer off and on
as many times as it takes to clear its buffer of the trash.
I'm running CentOS 5.0 and have tried Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 for
Linux; I have also tried printing the pdf to a file

Low-memory Centos5?
Good morning,
I've inherited an old laptop from my wife that I'd like to
use when I travel (it's fairly small with a 12" screen). The
bad part is that it is maxed out on memory with 384MB.
Has anyone played with using Centos5 on systems with
little memory? Ideally, I don't need too much - Firefox,
Openoffice, a little Perl/Python/C here and there. I was
thinking about using

Image viewer refuses to print TIF graphics
I'm not sure if it's just the TIFs or if that related at all, since I
have had some luck in printing these before, but recently the image
viewer (eog - the Eye of GNOME, v 2.16.0.1) has responded to a print
command on certain TIFs with nothing. Nothing shows up in the spool
queue for the printer, and, although the printer (a Brother 2140 laser
printer) heats up, it doesn't print

USB Wireless device for CentOS?
I need to get a wireless device for an upcoming trip (USB is
preferable to PCMCIA for a long list of reasons) and I'm wondering if
anyone has any experience with or recommendations for such items,
particularly which ones work with Linux/CentOS. Right now I'm
debating between a reasonably cheap Belkin 54G and a slightly more
expensive Netgear 54G.
Thanks.

Strange slowdown occasionally in CentOS 5.0
For some reason, parts of my system are now slowing down to an
agonizing crawl from time to time. At first it was my VMWare Server
1.04, which became such a pain that I rebooted. Then, it looked like
it was a network-induced thing because the prime culprit was
SeaMonkey, particularly with multiple tabs open. I did an ifdown and
ifup on my NIC and that seemed to help for a while. But then it

Also, does anyone has or know where to get the firmware for Dlink
DVG-1120S (sip model)?

Port forwarding on a DLink Di-604
Anyone know how to set up port forwarding of multiple ports on a DLink DI-604?
I successfully portforward the SIP port on the Advanced|Virtual Server
page. It works because I can register a SIP client, but it's a single
port - 5060.
The DLink doesn't seem to provide an obvious way of portfarding the
10000 - 20000 ports needed for RTP.
Any ideas?

Printer recommendations
Since my old Epson C86 has finally managed to clog up the print heads,
I'm in the market for a replacement. I'd like to know what the people
on this list are using for printers that are currently available, since
we are using versions of CUPS and foomatic that are frozen, and any
other issues or "gotchas" that you are aware of.
For the replacement printer, I'm considering a

G729 troubles
Hello,
I've successfully installed Asterisk from last CVS and configured it
for using with DLINK-DG104S as mgcp CPE and PGW2200 as external sip
server.
All are work fine at G711 codecs, but then I disable all codecs except
g729 some calls failed (Not all calls. Some calls passed at g729
succesfully).
All my devices configred to use only g729 and I don't see other codecs
at mgcp or sip

TDM400P FXO and Primus TalkBroadBand
Hi all,
A while back, there was a short thread on using the FXS interface from
a Primus TalkBroadBand device (a DLink ATA) as a incoming line for the
FXO interface on the TDM400P:
Primus <--> DLink ATA FXS <--> TDM400P FXO <--> Asterisk
In that thread, a couple of people suggested that this does not work
reliabley, and the ATA FXS <--> TDM FXO link 'goes

Unable to print with the Wine PS driver
I'm trying to get Wine to print through it's PS driver, without success, on a HP DeskJet 694C, configured on Linux with the cdj670 driver.
What I get to see on screen after I attempt to print are three windows with exclamation marks on a yellow triangle and garbled text. The
first window is titled "Printer name", the second "Device name", the third "Output".

Dlink DVG-1120 Linksys PAP2 any Good?
I had just found a Dlink DVG-1120 on ebay and I'm curious if anyone has
used you it with asterisk. They were only $65. I have tested with the
Linksys Pap2 and found that box to be fairly nice except for a lot of
backgound/white noise. I was wondering if any else had experienced
that? Let me know if I've wasted $65 on the Dlink and also if you had
similar experience with white noise on

OT: Canada's Primus introduces SIP localserv ice
If you look at the specs on the Dlink box that Primus gives you, you will
see that it is SIP.
I am sure Primus has a SIP platform because we have played with it. We
managed to use it on MSN's SIP phone as well as couple Zultys ZIP2x2
hard phones. Their PC-Phone app is also a SIP soft phone. If you are
registering to sip.iprimus.net then it is definitely their SIP platyform
not MGCP.

Snom firmwares suck <--additional datapoint to consider
We have a large install of 360's running rev 4.1 with zero problems. I did
another, smaller install couple weeks ago with 40 360's running rev 5.3. In
both cases, the install was identical, same Asterisk version, same dialplan,
everything the same except the differences were:
1. Different firmware rev
2. Different physical LAN
Guess what? On the smaller install, lockups and reboots.

Dlink DSM 320
Well i did it, i finally broke down and bought a hardware based media
player, the dlink dsm 320.
Not only can i watch my dvds from my pc, but listen to my 30+gb ogg vorbis
collection,
create a playlist file (.pls format) with shoutcast and icecast2 streams
(mp3 only) and crank them
through the home theatre system.
Just a heads up though, even though it supports shoutcast and icecast2 mp3,
