can I use CentOS as a antivirus / spam filter / HTTP AV gateway?
Hi all I've been thinking about using CentOS on a Dell R200 server and turn it into a firewall / network monitor / traffic shaper in our datacentre, instead of using a dedicated firewall device. One of the devices that I have been looking at, with my limited budget, is the D-Link DFL 860 - http://www.netdefend.eu/Product.aspx?m=15&ref=DFL-860 It provides AV, SPI, VPN, DOS, P2P, etc

rsync to a destination > 8TB problem...
I am trying to use a large (10TB) reiserfs filesystem as an rsync target. The filesystem is on top of lvm2 (pretty sure this doesn't matter, but just in case.) I get the following error when trying to sync a modest set of files to that 10TB target (just syncing /etc for now): rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes: phase "unknown": Broken pipe rsync error: error in

OT- Re: ext3 filesystems larger than 8TB
I was basing that on the fact that she had secured Russian citizenship for her children prior to the divorce, but I cannot get the complete details as I just don't have the time these days to follow any story in great length. I still stand behind the idea that it was a case of accidental manslaughter that was attempted to be covered up. Is there a court tv mailing list out there? -Ross

Way OT Re: OT- Re: ext3 filesystems larger than 8TB
Ahm, it wasn't money that influenced the OJ case, it was, race, coupled with incompetence on the side of the prosecution. Now if Reiser had kept his mouth shut he might have just been acquitted. He had a good attorney, that attorney gave him sound advise and he chose to ignore it anyways. I also believe if he had confessed to what happened he would have received manslaughter, though after

16TB ext3 mainstream - when?
Are we likely to see patches to allow 16TB ext3 in the mainstream kernel any time soon? I am working with a storage box that has 16x750GB drives RAID5-ed together to create a potential 10.5TB of potential storage. But because ext3 is limited to 8TB I am forced to split into 2 smaller ext3 filesystems which is really cumbersome for my app. Any ideas anybody?

Partition large disk
Hi, I have a 24TB RAID6 disk with a GPT partition table on it. I need to partition it into 2 partitions one of 16TB and 1 of 8TB to put ext4 filesystems on both. But I really need to do this remotely. ( if I can get to the site I could use gparted ) Now fdisk doesn't understand GPT partition tables and pat

OT: redhat training and RHES6
Greetings. I am planning on getting my RHCE in the near future. I thinking I should wait until 6 comes out before proceeding. That being said, I don't want to wait past the end of this year. That being said, do you all have any information about how long it takes for their training platform to catch up to their release? Which is to say, if RHES 6 is released on day 1, at what point

DID's needed for Reston Virginia - + hosted asterisk
I've just started consulting for a SME client based in Reston Virginia. They don't know it yet but they are going to need a hosted asterisk service and some DID's. Email me if you are able to provide 10 DID's in Reston (must be able to be ported away!!) and hosted Asterisk with end user configurable IVR etc. Probably only 5-8 users at the moment BUT... they'll be

Centos 5.1 ext3 filesystem limit
Centos 5.1 documentation states that the supported ext3 filesystem limit is 16TB, yet I have a 9.5TB partition that is claimed to be too large: mke2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006) mke2fs: Filesystem too large. No more than 2**31-1 blocks (8TB using a blocksize of 4k) are currently supported. Am I missing something? > uname -a Linux fileserver.sharcnet.ca 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan

Adding larger bricks to an existing volume
I have a 10x2 distributed replica volume running gluster3.8. Each of my bricks is about 60TB in size. ( 6TB drives Raid 6 10+2 ) I am running of storage so I intend on adding servers with larger 8Tb drives. My new bricks will be 80TB in size. I will make sure the replica to the larger brick will match in size. Will gluster place more files on the larger bricks? Or will I have wasted space? In

RFC: Tuning ext3
All, I'm requesting comments from the expert readers of ext3-users on these notes for tuning ext3 for performance. Most helpful would be feedback pertinent to RHEL 5; as XFS isn't supported under Red Hat Enterprise Linux these items are an attempt to match XFS performance with ext3. These items were culled from a number of sources. Will they be effective for achieving the performance

Setting up large (12.5 TB) filesystem howto?
Hi, I'm trying to set up an iscsi 12.5 TB storage for some data backup. Doing so, I had some difficulties to find the right tool, maybe it's also a question of the system settings... The server is a 32Bit CentOS 5.3 with the recent updates. Ths iscsi connection can be establised. fdisk and parted fail to create any information on the device or fail completely. using the lvm tools
