Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all, I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to have my drafts editable from both. What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or .markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

Whitespace in img src
Hello, markdown (Python implementation) seems to render: ![alternativer text](pfad/und/eine lange/url zum bild.jpg) to <img src="pfad/und/eine" title="lange/url zum bild.jpg" alt="alternativer text"/> breaking the URL at the whitespace. AFAIK whitespaces are ok in URLs so why is it breaking up the URL here? Thanks, Florian -- I'm using an

numbered list bug in markdown.pl?
Hi, I'm getting what I believe to be a bug. If I put the following in markdown: 1. This is a numbered list 2. Blah 9. This is another list item 10. Ok, weird bug here 11. It's really bothering me And when I run it through markdown.pl 1.01 I get out the following: <ol> <li>This is a numbered list</li> <li>Blah</li> <li>This is another

markdown conversion routines
i am considering writing converters between my "zen markup language' and "markdown", but i don't know which version of markdown to target. i'd think it'd be the "pandoc" version, and i understand that to be closest to "multimarkdown", but gruber has said he "disagrees" with "almost every part" of multimarkdown's syntax

Proposed table specification (long!)
Gentlefolk, I have been thinking on Markdown's lack of "proper" table support for a long while now. Here's where I have arrived... ## I Don't Like HTML Tables It is often argued that embedded HTML is the way to markdown rich tables. Unfortunately, this contradicts the higher markdown ideal that a raw markdown document (including tables!) should be good 1. Firstly for

Universal syntax for Markdown
Hi, because of the great editor "Writer" from Information Architects I've learned about Markdown and I love it. But it's very confusing, that there are so many standards with different features: classical Markdown, Markdown Extra, MultiMarkdown. I think for most users and the spreading of Markdown it would be nice, to have only one syntax. And this universal syntax should have

list corner case
I'm curious how people think the following *should* be interpreted: - one 2. two http://babelmark.bobtfish.net/?markdown=-++one%0D%0A2.+two%0D%0A%0D%0A As you can see, implementations split into three groups here: (a) treat as an unordered list Markdown.pl, Python markdown, MultiMarkdown, BlueCloth, MarkdownJ, Showdown (b) treat as an unordered list with an ordered

Trouble with parentheses in Markdown hyperlinks
How can we improve URL detection in Markdown? I posted a question on Stack Overflow and happened to click a URL in my post. To my surprise, it wasn't functional, and it took three different, nonintuitive manipulations before I achieved a functional URL. Stack Overflow says "not my problem", so I'm deferring to Markdown itself. Here's a

A Modest Definition List Proposal
Howdy, I've been thinking a lot about definition list syntax, and what I did and didn't like about the PHP Markdown Extra syntax (which seems to be a de-facto standard, discount notwithstanding, yes?). What I came up with is a single character change to the PHP Markdown Extra syntax. I just published a detailed explanation of my thoughts and reasoning for this on [my

Markdown development
Not only is [Markdown] dead, it's starting to smell really bad. (Apologies to Pike.) It's author appears to have little interest in developing the tool and participating in the community which uses it. I'd like to see the community cooperate toward a specification which addresses the shortcomings and ambiguities of Markdown (even if it need be released under a new name).

uniform type indicator
this is fascinating: > http://daringfireball.net/linked/2011/08/05/markdown-uti i don't know (and don't care about) any possible significance of such a pronouncement on a "uniform type indicator", but i think that it's interesting that gruber has decided to make _any_ type of statement on markdown, with the big moves now underfoot, and doubly so when he chooses to

New parser-based Markdown implementation for Java
Markdowners, just a short heads-up to a newly released Markdown implementation: "pegdown" (http://github.com/sirthias/pegdown) implements a Java Markdown-to-HTML processor based on a PEG parser with the grammar being based on John MacFarlanes C implementation "peg-markdown". pegdown uses "parboiled" (http://www.parboiled.org) for the actual parsing work and, as

elastic tabstops, proportional fonts, and more

my scala markdown implementation
Hi, I have written my own implementation of markdown in Scala. I only later realized there is already one ( <http://tristanhunt.com/projects/knockoff/> ), but I put quite some work into mine and I think it is never bad to have alternatives, so I wanted to release it anyway. I want to use the same BSD License as the original markdown, but before I put it out into the wild I wanted to ask

Markdown-Discuss Digest, Vol 48, Issue 13
It was a very useful feature for e-mail parsing and I miss it. I use PHP Markdown extra to send multipart alternative e-mail, and the short syntax [link] instead of [link][] is very clean and lean. Do you plan to implement it anymore? Or is there a tweak to get the present PHP Markdown Extra to parse [links] as [links][]? BTW I did not find mention of this in

the future of markdown, according to jeff atwood (and/or david greenspan)
like history, the future is decided by the people who write it... > http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2012/10/the-future-of-markdown.html by the way, if you want a form of light-markup which is still flexible enough to be molded, but will be _totally_ free of ambiguities and "edge-cases", and governed by a well-written specification and thorough documentation, along with an

What does Markdown do with HTML comments? Recommendation on Markdown file extension?
Hi there! (1.) It may sound awkward, but I would like to use comments in Markdown texts. According to the rule that proper HTML works as HTML, I should be able to use <!-- blablabla --> But the converters I use do strange things with comments. Is there an official rule about that? (2.) I wonder if there is a recommended standard file extension for Markdown source files. For my
