Problems Building R-2.3.1 on Alpha server ES40 running Tru64 V5.1B PK#5
R Listers,
One of the list contributors suggested I abandon attempts to build
R-1.9.1 and focus on building R-2.3.1. I believe the main set of
packages have been built properly (with some changes to the code) -
however, when building the Recommended packages, the build fails.
CODE CHANGES:

problems compiling R-0.63.3 on alpha
Hi again !
Thanks for the info on updating the config.site file which I
have done. I have also added -lm in the Makeconf manually
because this is needed explicitly for DEC cc.
However, there are still a few problems when linking some
of the files as you can see from the enclosed log.
Ciao,
Andreas

Hi !
I have problems compiling R successfully on a DEC-UINX 4.0E.
I have applied the recommended config.site, which I enclose.
As can be seen from the compilation log there are linking errors...
I did a 'make check' which fails for the R

Intel e1000e driver bug and 82574L controller
One of the more promising solutions I'm looking at for my dual-ethernet
dual-monitor workstation contains an Intel 82574L Ethernet controller. I
found a LOT of postings regarding a bug in the driver for this controller:

82574L PCI Express NIC in Xen
The gigabit NIC on my mainboard died, and I am currently running on
a PCI 10/100 nic. I want to get a gigabit NIC installed as soon as
possible, preferably a PCI-Express one, but I am not sure what will and
won''t work with the native xen kernel, and I don''t really want to custom
build my own kernel because I have yet to successfully compile a xen kernels

gigE -> 100Mb problems
I've got a pair of identical CentOS 6.7 servers, with SuperMicro X8DTE-F
motherboards, these have 2 each Intel 82574L ethernet ports. The eth0
ports are plugged in with 10' runs of brand new cat 5e cable to a Cisco
Nexxus 9000 switch (provided by the data center).
These servers keep coming up at 100baseT rather than gigE. I've swapped
ports and cables with a different server,

Using Libvirt Java Bindings on Windows 7 64bit
Hi All,
Has anybody had any managed to use the libvirt java bindings on Windows 7
64bit (or similar configuration)?
I am using Java 6.
When I try to use the Test.class delivered with the bindings it always
fails with the following error:

Bug#626644: xen-utils-4.1: xl fails because /var/lib/xen is missing
Package: xen-utils-4.1
Version: 4.1.0-3
Severity: normal
After *manually* creating /var/lib/xen xl create <configfile> worked fine.
Probably it would be better to have the directory created when installing
this package?
Error when /var/lib/xen is missing:
xl create /etc/xen/domU/sandbox-debian-unstable.cfg -c

Troubles with Windows Me Registry in latest CVS
I'm having a problem that I'm not sure the cause of. I've never had a
problem with wineinstall until recently. I have full read/write access to
my Windows partition and wineinstall can see it. However it fails to find
the Windows registry for some reason.
I'm running Windows Me, on that partition. For Linux I'm running Redhat
7, and latest CVS.
Here's the messages I get.

Getting 'LinkingTo' to find the right library
I am experimenting with exporting pointers to some of the functions in
deSolve so that other packages may import them, using the
'R_RegisterCCallable' mechanism. I have added a header file and some
other C code in inst/include of the deSolve source package that need to
be accessible to other packages. I have a site-library set up in
Rprofile.site where all installed packages go, and as

Asterisk and the IAD2431 via MGCP
I have the following upcoming install and I'm trying to do it without
having to resort to Digium t1 cards.
I have a Cisco IAD2431 being installed by our Carrier. That Carrier
will be providing 2 IP Trunks via ethernet handoff into the Cisco
IAD2431. The CIsco IAD2431 has Two T1 ports installed and we would
have to install a digium card to support those two t1's.

Fwd: Samba semantics error?
Hello,
I have this bug report that I have filed. Is there any specific reason why
samba behaves this way, and doesn't use the unix semantics? Since this is
even more restrictive than unix semantics, I'm more inclined to call it a
bug until I know it's supposed to be this way.
Any ideas?

Atlas shared
I don't see why the Debian shared libraries shouldn't work, but it's not too
hard to make shared ATLAS: first you need to get the flags for
position-independent code (-fPIC on gcc) into the compilations, which can be
done in the "config" program (add it to the defaults for the C and Fortran
compiler flags), then you extract the object files from the .a archive built

Intel 82574 issue reported on Slashdot
For those that may have run across the story on Slashdot about this NIC,
here is our statement:
Recently there were a few stories published, based on a blog post by an
end-user, suggesting specific network packets may cause the Intel? 82574L
Gigabit Ethernet Controller to become unresponsive until corrected by a
full platform power cycle.
Intel was made aware of this issue in September 2012 by
