Samba with LDAP Intergration
All, I am trying to work out if the current setup is possible: I would like to have Samba running to authenticate shares for /home directories running under FC6. All of my users are posixAccount's in an LDAP Directory. I would like to use this information to authenticate these shares but without making any changes to the LDAP Directory itself (so including no new objects or schema

Misalignment of secondary axis on boxplot
Dear R-help, I am trying to overlay a secondary y-axis over a boxplot. The problem is that the point of the line does not correspond to the centrepoint of the boxplot, which makes presentation and interpretation sloppy. Could someone point out where I am going wrong please? #DATA

Problem using plot and converted dates

Comparing switchpoints from segmented
Hello everyone Not strictly an R question but close... hopefully someone will be able to help. I wish to compare the switchpoints in two switchpoint regressions. The switchpoints were estimated using the segmented library running in R, and I have standard errors for the estimates. I initially thought I could just bootstrap confidence intervals for the difference between the switchpoints,

Block factor as random or fixed effect?
People I apologise for asking a general stats question, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do following some hostile referees' comments. If I have a fully randomised blocked design, with only three blocks, should I treat block as a random or fixed effect? I have read comments about not treating block as a random effect if the number of blocks is less than 6 or 7: is this

xlim and ylim on npudens (np package)
Hi - I'm just geting started with R, specifically needing to plot some 3D joint distribution functions estimated from data. Happily, the "np" package includes example code which gets most of the way there. The following tweak of the doc code gives me a nice cdf: library(np) library(datasets) data(faithful) f <- npudens(~eruptions+waiting, data=faithful) plot(f,cdf = TRUE,

How to identify the two largest peaks in a trimodal distribution
Hello all I'm trying to do a simulation that involves identifying the minimum point between two peaks of a (usually) bimodal distribution. I can do this easily if there are only two peaks: CnBdens<-density(Ys/Xs) #probability density function for ratio of Ys to Xs for(p in 1:512) ifelse(CnBdens$y[p]>CnBdens$y[p-1],peak1<-p,break) #identifies first peak in probability

I am trying to get a CentOS 6.3 serial console to work with IPMI SOL. I think I have everything working but maybe the wrong baud rate on the getty: $ ipmitool -I lanplus -U root -H 10.0.0.14 sol activate Password: [SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help] ?????????? 10.0.0.14 is the DRAC IP address of the CentOS 6.3 box. It accepts the password and connects me to the console but then when I

IPMI serial over lan disconnects seem to trigger extlinux reboots
Hi, I hope somebody can help me with this problem. I don't know whether it's a problem with my configuration or a bug or feature in extlinux. I am using an IPMI 2.0 serial-over-lan console to connect to a system with an Intel S3200SHL motherboard. The first line of my extlinux.conf file looks like this: serial 0 57600 0x003 I am using ipmitool to access the console, like so:

Help with (hopefully) simple configuration problem
I have a (mostly) windows environment into which I am attempting to integrate a SAMBA based printer server (Solaris 2.5.1 SPARC). I'm running SAMBA 1.9.18p10. I need the print server to do two things: 1. Perform as local network browser/WINS server for the local subnet it is on (10.255.8.128/27) 2. Register itself and clients on it's subnet with the browsers/WINS servers/whatever

A slight trap in read.table/read.csv.
I had occasion recently to read in a one-line *.csv file that looked like: "CandidateName","NSN","Ethnicity","dob","gender" "Smith, Mary Jane",111222333,"E","2/25/1989","F" That "F" (for female) in the last field got transformed to FALSE. Apparently read.csv (and hence read.table) are inferring

PXE problem after CentOS reboot
Dear folks, We are installing a large diskless cluster using CentOS 5.1. The hardware is pretty new - Supermicro X7DWT boards with Harpertown CPUs. Unfortunately we have some PXE-related problems described by the following scenario: 1) Set up DHCP, TFTP and NFS on a server, prepare PXE kernel and initrd - fine. 2) Start up the node using PXE for the first time - fine. 3) Reboot the node - PXE

Partial wireframe plots
Dear R-helpers Can anyone direct me to a method for plotting what you might call a partial wireframe plot? I have two explanatory variables in a dataset which give me a significant interaction term when I fit a model. The two variables are correlated with each other to a moderate degree, and if I plot the predicted values from the model as a surface in a 3D wireframe plot there are some

Trying to use segmented in a function
Hi folks I wonder if anyone can help me. I want to run some simulations to see how big a sample size might be necessary to distinguish a curved bivariate relationship (e.g. something that might be best described by a quadratic model) from a relationship that is two straight lines with a sudden change in slope (e.g. something best described by a breakpoint regression). I am using
