Building a custom kernel-image.deb
Hi,
maybe I'm missing something fundamental but I can't seem to be able to
build a custom kernel-image.deb for xen.
I was able to build the linux-2.6 with xen images from the repository
and build a vmlinux file using the directions from upstream Xen. But
I've had no luck with make-kpkg.
Can anyone give me some hints?

e2defrag - Unable to allocate buffer for inode priorities
Hi, first of all, apologies if this isn't the right mailing list but it was the best I could find. If you know a better mailing list, please tell me.
Today I tried to defrag one of my filesystems. It's a 3.5T large filesystem that has 6 software-raids in the bottom and then merged together using lvm. I was running ext3 but removed the journal flag with

Confused about start of day setup
Hi,
I hope I''m right here. If not then please point me in the right
direction.
My problem in short:
I have problems using (pinning, mmu_update) physical pages from
0x900000 to 0xB1000 usualy.
I''m writing my own little amd64 64bit toy kernel (based on Mini-OS as
starting point) for xen and I run into problems with the way the start
of day sets up the physical pages.

problem installing xen kernel on Debian etch
I am currently running kernel 2.6.18-6-686 on Debian Etch 40r3. I am
trying to install xen on it. I tried installing linux-image-2.6.18-6-
xen-686, but when I restarted, it doesn''t boot instead shows a kernel
panic.
I ran #apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-6-xen-686
and changed /boot/grub/menu.lst file to point to current xen kernel.
While rebooting it showed kernel panic and

Xen3 on Etch - Rebooting when 2nd DomU started
Hi All,
Fairly new to Debian and Xen but I have a box running with lots of DomUs
under Xen2 and it is fine.
I have setup a new IBM eServer P4 and loaded Etch and loaded Xen3.
It runs up my first DomU beautifully but when I start my second DomU it
crashes the PC and reboots.
If I comment out the line in /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp
(network-script network-bridge)
It will run 2 DomUs
Have I run

Xen capable linux-tree-2.6.16 deb?
Hi,
has anyone build a linux-2.6.16 deb that can be used to compile xen?
The default unstable package does not seem to have any xen patches
included, only the /debian/arch/amd64/xen dir for the .config files.

compiling linux-image-2.6.18-4-xen-686 package?
Hi there,
I've done an apt-get source linux-image-2.6.18-4-xen-686
and would very much like to build a package with NFS root enabled.
From what I've read, I need to run split-config, which I got from SVN
(it doesn't seem to exist anywhere else)
I've fooled around with split-config to produce a config to my spec but
this doesn't seem to actually work.

Using SYSCALL/SYSRET with a minios kernel
Hi,
I''m trying to use the SYSCALL/SYSRET opcodes with a minios kernel
without much success.
Going by the manuals (and linux sources) I first have to setup the
STAR and LSTAR registers to define the segment and instruction pointer
to be used for SYSCALL:
/*
* LSTAR and STAR live in a bit strange symbiosis.
* They both write to the same internal register. STAR allows

Bug#407141: xen-utils-3.0.3-1: please provide 32bit domU kernels on amd64 arch
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: wishlist
Xen can run 32bit domU clients on 64bit (amd64) dom0. Unfortunately only amd64
linux-image-xen packages are available on arch amd64. Please provide 686 packages
as well (if possible). This would enable the installation of 32bit clients without
the need to manually compile a kernel.
Feel free to reassign this bug to the correct

Debian Etch doesn''t boot 2.6.26-bpo.1-xen-686 but 2.6.26-bpo.1-686 works fine?
Hoi,
I am trying to get a 32 bit Debian Etch system up & running with kernel
2.6.26 from backports.
The system boots fine with 2.6.26-bpo-1-686 but cannot boot with
2.6.26-bpo.1-xen-686, see below. The Xen kernel loads the disc
controller (dpt_i2o) OK and detects the RAID array successfully but
still can''t mount its root filing system. Any ideas?
kind regards,
Jan

Do I need a xenU initrd image?
Hi,
I just created a Xen domU using http to install over the network. How
do I now restart the domU and use the installed OS? I gather I need a
initrd image to boot my guest. I''ve found bits and pieces of answers to
my question referring to mkinitrd, but none seem to work.
I am running Scientific Linux 5.
Thanks in advance,
Cam

Bug#463232: xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386: boot failure with linux-image-2.6.23-1-xen-686
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386
Version: 3.2.0-2
Severity: normal
I'm afraid this bug report will be somewhat unspecific. Please let me
know what I need to do in order to extract more useful information out
of xen.
I have done the following to install xen:
installed xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386, xen-utils-3.2-1,
linux-image-2.6.23-1-xen-686
fixed /usr/sbin/update-grub (see bug #455706)

xen 3.3.0 etch sources console hangs
I installed xen 3.3.0 on a etch box from sources. I just modified the
standard kernel cause of some hardware drivers. I installed xen-tools
from backports (3.9-3~bpo40+1). To create a domU ist not the problem. I
can connect via ssh and everything works fine. But when i start a domU
with "xm create host.example.tld.cfg -c" to login to console from domU
it hangs after the message

linux patch package
Hello,
I am trying to install xen in a debian box. I have installed your
packages for etch version. In that package, in the documentation, in the
README.Debian.gz file, you say:
"...The only thing we can give you is the patch, which is included in
the linux-patch-xen package. You are expected to install this package,
download a 2.6.12 kernel from kernel.org (this is the version supported

Xen 3.0.4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I read in a message of december that packages of Xen 3.0.4 are expected
in experimental by the end of Jan.
Actually I didn't find anything in experimental. Since all my tries to
create a kernel with xen 3.0.4 failed miserably with compiler errors.
I had success only with the utilities packages, but I'm not even sure
that they work.

Wine + Dreamweaver CS3 + Debian Etch 2.6.18-6-amd64 + Gnome
Hi!
I am experiencing some small annoyances with my DW3-installation. After installing DW (http://www.openaddict.com/node/25), it works almost perfectly, except that context menus (triggered by right-click) are just disapperaring after a millisecond. File, Edit-menus etc. works fine, just as in Windows. Is this a GTK issue? Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hypervisor kernel confusion
I''m a bit confused about the kernel used by the Xen hypervisor. I''ve
just installed a 30 day trial of XenSource''s Enterprise edition software
on a Sun Fire 4600.
It was my understanding that it would install a 64 bit hypervisor,
however, upon running uname -a on my machine, I am told that I am
running a i686 kernel. Did I miss something? How does one use a 64 bit
