FC4 + nut => shutdown sequence conundrum
Summary ======= I have encountered problems with the nut shutdown sequence using the directory structure in the packages for Fedora Core 4. These problems occur when the /var file system is mounted as a separate volume. I have done some investigation and think that I have an answer, but I need verification from someone who has more experience from nut on a wider variety of systems. I want to

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books. But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500 server errors.

consolidating the NUT documentation on permissions, hotplug and udev
Arnaud et al, I have been meaning to collect some of the documentation updates for permission-related errors, and I was wondering if you would mind if we moved the scripts/udev/README and scripts/hotplug/README files out of scripts/ and into the docs/ directory (probably docs/permissions.txt). We could also cover the *BSD /dev/usb* permission issues there, as well. Any thoughts on this? -- -

order of subdirectories and nut-usbinfo.pl
Arnaud, should we move tools/ up to the beginning of the subdirectory list? It seems that it is writing some *.in files during 'make dist', which should undergo variable substitution. (There will probably be other dependency issues to resolve, but that would be the first step.) On a related note, I would like to add some code to nut-usbinfo.pl to blacklist bogus vendor IDs (e.g. 0x0000,

Automounting (hotplug) with HAL on CentOS 5
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I would like to get add a new Wiki entry regarding Automounting with HAL for CentOS 5, since the behaviour is very different than CentOS 4. Main points: - - Making automounting hotpluggable devices work with other WMs - - Overriding the default mount point - - Overriding the default mount options (noexec etc) Small nightmare here to find out how

MGE Evolution, USB and linux
I have a MGE Evolution 3000 connected via USB to a linux server (HP Proliant G3). The server is running kernel 2.4.30 and nut-2.0.3. But before nut trying to connect to the UPS, I guess HID doesn't work as long as I get a message like this in dmesg: -------------------------------------------------- usb.c: new device strings: Mfr=4, Product=136, SerialNumber=50 usb.c: USB device number 2

Fun and games with newhidups, udev rules and permissions
Thought I would write some notes about how I got an APC BackUPS XS 1500 working with newhidups under Gentoo 2006.0. The specific issue here is the permissions on the device files used that libusb uses to access the USB hardware. I followed Peter Selinger's instructions at http://www.mscs.dal.ca/~selinger/ups/backups.html on getting newhidups going with an APC device. The sticking point for

[PATCH] Replace the HAL calls with udev/systool calls.
HAL has been deprecated, and this patch removes all HAL specific calls from the configuration scripts. HAL is still present in the Python scripts, but will be removed in a different patch.
